Dr. Gretta Kumpf

The weeks leading up to the winter break are always hectic, yet, so enjoyable. They are filled with holiday concerts, athletic events, classroom parties, and extra studying for semester exams. They are filled with holiday preparations—shopping, celebrations, baking, cooking feasts, gift wrapping, and sending cards. It is a reminder that time passes so quickly and another year is coming to a close. As we wind down 2017, I want to thank each of you for what you do for the district that makes our community a truly special place to call home. Whether you attend school events, cheer on students from the bleachers or volunteer, I say thank you. To our magnificent employees, thank you for always going above and beyond what is expected to support our students and district. I cannot emphasize enough how truly blessed we are to be surrounded by a community that values a quality education! I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. I hope your homes are filled with love, laughter, and family traditions. Let us also remember our families with loved ones proudly serving our country who will not be home for the holidays. May their hearts be filled with memories of family holidays gone by.

Congratulations

Congratulations to LT Ball Intermediate’s Students of the Month for December. Teachers

selected these outstanding students because they know how to be responsible, be respectful

and have integrity.

Creativity and Compassion

LT Ball Intermediate students entered an ornament contest organized by kitchen manager Tammy Green. Students needed to make an ornament using pull tabs and other items, preferably recyclable, to hang on the Christmas tree in the school’s kitchen. The winners received a prize and more importantly, were able to choose items from the Ronald McDonald House Wish List to be donated to the house in their name. The winners are 5th grader Myah Trost and 4th grader Breaunna Kovaleski. Both girls chose 3 things from the Wish List. Ms. Green boxed up the donations and will deliver the package this week to the Ronald McDonald House in Dayton that serves families of children who are being treated at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

Delivery

To a kindergarten student, the letter to Santa Claus is an important part of the holiday season. Nevin Coppock students bundled up and walked to the post office to mail their letters and learn how the letters get to the North Pole. Thank you to our local post office for accommodating this wonderful, fun tradition.

Nevin Coppock’s kindergarten students traveled around the world by going classroom to classroom to learn more about holiday traditions in other countries. Each classroom featured a country and included a lesson and activities unique to that area.

Bedtime Stories

LT Ball Intermediate 4th graders donated more than 135 pairs of children’s pajamas to the 9th Annual Great Bedtime Story Drive. All pajamas are given to less fortunate children in the Miami Valley and are paired with an age appropriate book from Scholastic Book Clubs. The Pajama Program states that it “offers at-risk children the unconditional, magical gifts of pajamas and books so that they can enjoy the greatest benefit of a loving bedtime and peaceful good night: a fulfilling good day. After all, good nights are good days.”

The Magic of Learning

LT Ball Intermediate students enjoyed a fascinating day of exploration at COSI, the Center of Science and Industry. They got close to dinosaurs, learned about big machines, explored lab spaces, commanded an underwater ROV, tested their energy knowledge, met innovators, traveled through time, and participated in hands-on digital media activities.

Nevin Coppock first graders in the class of Amy Blake welcomed a special guest to their classroom for the month of November. The students had the pleasure of having Tippecanoe High School senior, Mackenzie Weaver, as part of their close-knit group. The month-long participation in the first grade class is part of Mackenzie’s Career Mentorship class! The students absolutely loved having her and are going to miss her. Could her future be in education?
