The Summer of 1914• June 28, 1914 – Gavrilo Princip a Serbian Nationalist
assassinates the heir to the A-H Empire (Archduke Franz Ferdinand)
• July 23, 1914 – A-H Empire issues an Ultimatum to Kingdom of Serbia – Russia defends Serbian interests – A-H invades July 27. Russia declares war on A-H Empire
• August 1, 1914 – Germany declares war on Russia. August 3, 1914 Germany declares war on France and immediately invades France (THUR neutral Belgium)
• August 4, 1914 – England declares war on Germany defending Belgium’s neutrality
