PreK – 3rd Grade Educators, Come Join Idaho Public Television for a PBS KIDS Edcamp IdahoPTV will be hosting another Edcamp on Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Snake River Elementary School in Nampa (500 Stampede Drive). PBS KIDS Edcamp is not a traditional conference: no keynote speaker, pre-arranged content or registration fee. So what exactly is it? A PBS KIDS Edcamp is a local gathering of PreK-3 grade educators connecting through shared experiences and peer-led conversations with a PBS twist. An idea conceived by teachers eager to challenge the status quo and take control of their own professional learning, the Edcamp model was initially sparked by informal conversations between educators on social media. Across the country, educators were connecting on Twitter to discuss topics of interest and learn new ideas. These conversations inspired educators to continue the dialogue in person as participant-driven, peer-led gatherings. Professional development credit available.

“When Apollo Came to Idaho”

–Airs Thursday, September 5, at 8:30 p.m. Some of America’s best-known astronauts visited Idaho in 1969 to train for their moon missions. But for many years, the small, supporting role Idaho played in the Apollo lunar program was unappreciated, misunderstood, even ignored. Idaho Experience explores NASA’s past — and future — training and research at Idaho’s Craters of the Moon National Monument in “When Apollo Came to Idaho.” “The 1969 visit was part of a smart, deliberate strategy by NASA to teach geology to this corps of pilots selected as the first astronauts,” says producer Bill Manny. “These guys were, after all, going on the grandest geology field trip of all time. NASA had the astronauts visit volcanic sites all over southeast Idaho and geological sites all over the world.” What makes this a story worth retelling is that the space-research relationship continues at Craters of the Moon, where the varied and hostile landscape is being used to prepare scientists and astronauts for future missions to Mars.

“Hearing”
