with your eyes and ears.” C.T.
The Rachel Therrien Quintet, formed in 2009 after a journey to Cuba, is a group of jazz musicians that perform primarily original compositions. Rachel is a well-‐known trumpet player and composer in the Montreal’s jazz scene. After having played with several combinations of musicians she has found the perfect ensemble for her compositions. With Charles Trudel on piano, Alain Bourgeois on drums, Simon Pagé on bass, and Sebastien Fortin on saxophone, she is able to bring her inspirations to a higher level of interpretation for your listening pleasure.
Rachel Therrien incorporates various influences into her compositions. From the jazz standards of Freddie Hubbard to Brecker’s “grooves”, through different styles from Miles Davis to a touch of traditional Cuban music, she has created a unique style of her own.
The quintet has performed all over Montreal in the past year and is presently recording their first album to be released in the spring of 2011. Rachel is confident that her quintet will continue to play frequently while securing a place at the forefront of a new generation of Jazz musicians. She is proud to have an international career as she has been invited to participate in the International Jazz Festival of Havana Cuba in December 2010. The Rachel Therrien Quintet is a group to watch for lovers of original jazz music!
