Los Gatos Swim Club (LGSC) is a competitive year-round USA Swimming team. Our goal is to help every swimmer develop a love for the sport of swimming, for our swimmers to be confident and independent; and to help swimmers understand, create, and reach personal goals. To do this we focus on understanding each swimmer as an individual and coach them in a manner that is best for them while providing workouts focused on their specific needs. We teach through lecture, demonstration, and example to ensure that each swimmer understands the intent of our exercises. We believe in well balanced and challenging workouts which include technique, endurance, and strength building exercises, but also that “fun” is what keeps swimmers happy and improving.

No matter where in the country you live, by July 4th summer is in full swing. That’s why from picnics to parades, the traditional ways we celebrate Independence Day all take advantage of the delights of spending time outside with family, friends and food.
But while you’re out celebrating this long weekend, enjoy the holiday treats, but keep your long term health goals in mind and stay physically active as well as socially active.
Here are 5 ways to keep moving through the holiday weekend.
If you have access to a pool or beach, get together with friends & family and go swimming. Swimming can help you burn calories and it works out your upper and lower body muscles. If swimming laps isn’t your style, there are always fun pool games to participate in.
Marco…Polo!
Get outside and show off your soccer skills or learn new ones! Play a game of soccer with your family and friends while at a park, or in someone’s backyard.
While this holiday is associated with BBQ and dishes that may be on the less healthy side, take advantage of the long weekend by waking up early and going for a morning run. Running not only burns calories but it helps relieve stress. You’ll feel energized and ready to enjoy the day ahead. Don’t forget to apply your favorite unscreen!
If you’re planning to hit the beach this weekend, take advantage of your surroundings to enhance your workout! Play beach volleyball, take a jog or ride your bike on the boardwalk. One hour of beach volleyball can burn up over 300 calories.
A great way to be social and build appreciation for America’s natural beauty is to go hiking or camping with a group of friends or family. Hiking is a great workout and it might be the perfect way to watch the fireworks –from a high vista far above the crowd!
