Dear Readers,

This has been a whirlwind month for all of us here at Radar Maga-zine: welcoming back our publication, getting interviews and sto-ries, and making sure to bring our readers an on-the-pulse publi-cation of high quality and standards. Despite being called Second Life, this is about the people behind the avatars, because we are all people with stories waiting to be told. Sometimes they are happy stories, sometimes they are fraught with obstacles and pain, but we remain human throughout it all. We hope you enjoy the glimpses we provide behind some of those avatars this month. We plan to bring you many more in the coming weeks and months, and to keep it real and on target. I’m taking some time to talk with Lucy Eberhart, the creator of the new MBC show “The Real Desperate Housewives of Beaver Ridge”. We’re going behind the scenes to talk about the conceptualization of the show and what it takes to broadcast a show based out of Second Life. Being that it’s my first interview about a television show, it should be a cavalcade of fun. Lets jump right in! Okay, so first of all thanks so much for taking the time out to answer our questions! a mash up of The Real Life shows “The Real Housewives...” and “Desperate House-wives”. Is that accu-rate? Or is it just really your own spin on real-ity television entirely?

Lucy Eberhart* Well yes, it is basically a spoof of the two Real Life shows, it’s unscript-ed and totally impro-vised.Unscripted? Wow, that is a bold move! I’m interested already in seeing the show now. So many of the funniest moments come from ac-tors improvising. What is the concept behind the story? Who created it initially and how did it further devel-op from the beginning stages?

Lucy Eberhart* It is ac-tually a creation of both Marcy Thorne and my-self. We had been talk-

ing about it for about a year and one day I said, “Let’s do it. If no TV network wants it, let’s do it our-selves.” We began by inventing our char-acters and a basic story line and history for each. It gradually grew into what we have now. MBC loved the idea and have been really helping us to produce it and make our dream into a virtual reality.

: The characters seem interesting I watched the trailer. When it first starts, you think it’s going to be in-trigue and suspense and drama. Then, a bit further in you get some giggles! Is that the basic layout of the show? Some drama and some laughs? I happen to enjoy shows like

that, the drama keeps you wanting more and the jokes keep it somewhat light.

Lucy Eberhart* Yes, exactly. We wanted the drama and mys-tery but also some-thing that was very comedic. Some epi-sodes are more dra-ma than others, while some are funny, or even a bit romantic.

: A little something for everyone is a great recipe for a show. How did you go about casting the en-semble of actors for this project? Do the different personalities work together and blend well?

Lucy Eberhart* I spammed my friends list and groups with a casting call note. I had a friend spam

her actor’s groups as well. I had no idea the turnout would be so big! It was a very difficult job to decide who was in, and who wasn’t and then to de-cide which actor best matched each role. I couldn’t have picked a better group. Each of them is very talented, with many having Real Life experience to draw from. So far, everyone’s got on great and I love the way they feed off each other for dia-logue, it just seems to flow so smoothly.

: That is awesome, I know when watching it I was unclear whether the accents of the ac-tors were real or exag-gerated which is al-ways fun. Should be a blast to watch for all of the current and future MBC viewers out there. Is there a premiere

date available for those who wish to tune in to the first episode?

Lucy Eberhart* There isn’t just yet. I’m shooting for a November release though.

: Sounds like a good plan, something to look forward to when all of the Hal-loween hoopla di-als down. What type of time-line are you using to post shows? Is it going to be similar to a traditional televi-sion show? Such as, once a week for a ‘season’ and then a 3-4 month break to record more shows? Or is it a bit different in Second Life?

Lucy Eberhart* It’s a bit different in Sec-

ond Life. It takes time to schedule shoots and every-one is busy with other projects too. It then takes time to edit as well. Ba-sically, we will air them once every 3-4 weeks for 8 episodes and then take a brief hiatus to film more epi-sodes for the next season.

: That is a heck of

a schedule. I can imagine the difficulty of getting all of the cast together at once with different time zones and things such as that to battle. I would imagine at some points perhaps recording different scenes at different times might be something to think about. Do you think there will ever be guest stars and things of that sort on the show? Maybe someone reading out there will tune in and

decide they’d like to try their hand at acting.

Lucy Eberhart* Of course, all the time. We have a constant need for extras.

: How would someone go about being a part of the show? Someone on Second Life that is perhaps an aspiring actor or looking to be booked for a job.

Lucy Eberhart* Just drop me a note card and I’ll add you to the extras list. If you are com-fortable with voice, I can even toss you a speaking role from time to time.: Hmm dare I try my hand? Nooo I’m far too shy hehe. What can you tell us as far as what we have to look forward to with “TRDHofBR”? Get a little excitement brewing. Lucy Eberhart* It’s a very ste-reotypical show. By that I mean, we parody stereotypes. So, it’s set in a trailer park, and has a cast of redneck residents. The story line for the first season

is that the residents are coping with the loss of one of their own and the mystery that surrounds that loss, at the same time each resident is dealing with their own drama. On top of that we have a new girl in town from the big city, which the residents find very exotic. So, we will see her adjust to trailer park life as well. : Oh my goodness that sounds like something everyone is going to get addicted to! Like a soap opera slash reality television type of show. Although, lately reality TV is seeming a lot like soap opera scripting. I’m sure our readers are going to be excited to check out the premiere of the show. Is there anything about the show that you would like to share with our readers that I haven’t already asked? Tidbits on the actors, the story lines, show times? Lucy Eberhart* The show will be aired on MBC, so even if you miss the premiere inworld, you can see it anytime on the website, or on your own Metaverse TV. There are lots of interesting characters and they were crafted so that each viewer, regardless of background, can iden-tify with at least one of them, whether it’s the socialite of the group, the womanizer, the nice guy, etc. Well ladies and gentleman, there you have it. The inner workings of a television show are as much hard work and non-glamorous as Real Life, but the outcome is just as mouth watering! I encourage all of you to tune in to “TRDHofBR” and get enveloped in the drama and in-trigue. Yes, I had to create an acronym because that is an incredibly long title and I am a lazy typist at the moment. If the juicy story line wasn’t enough to peak your interest, the fact that our very own CEO Labella Farella is a cast member should! Lets see if she’s got an ac-

MAKING YOUR HOUSE A HOME By Vikeejeah Xevion

Like many avatars in Second Life, when I started out here I noticed a huge

demand for contemporary design when it came to furniture and home decor.

I accepted and purchased many modern style homes, skyboxes and furniture

but always felt my home seemed cold. I didn’t spend much time in it and

didn’t invite people over to enjoy it either. I have been in Second Life a bit

over one year and it hasn’t been until recently that I have finally come into

my own with my RL home decor meeting my Second Life home decor. I

realize not everyone can afford a custom built home in The Grove Country

Club Estates and not everyone can afford a great deal of furniture nor do

they have the prims for it. That is why I am touring sims grid wide to bring

you the best finds of the best quality for reasonable to cheap prices that will

bring warmth and coziness to you home or skybox.

Ambiance Interactive Furniture is a small store that is filled with wonderful

home decor for every room in a standard home. Ambient furniture is perfect for

traditional, craftsman, and slight contemporary style homes with warm colors (

color change huds as well) and a great choice of masculine and feminine patterns

and colors that will suit both genders with little to no compromise. Don’t like

the color? Change it! It’s perfect. You can buy Ambient rooms as a set or if you

like individual pieces you can purchase them on their own allowing you to mix

and match to your heart’s content. Accessories can be quite prim heavy

so the choices to exclude them and still maintain a cozy home-style feel is

important. The textures and structure of each build are very well done. The

scale is perfect as well often a big issue with certain furniture designs. Over

all Ambiance Interactive Furniture will not disappoint with all of the great

colors and poses you can do to give your home that realistic feel.

LP2 Interiors carries modern, contemporary and traditional style furniture.

LP also specializes in low prim , hence the name. LP offers an a ray of

vibrant colors and patterns for that much needed pop of color in every home.

LP 2 also does great home accessories especially plants. The mix of traditional

and contemporary colors is a very fresh spin on what some may call grandma’s

furniture. This allows the opportunity to mix styles as well as patterns, colors and

more. The possibility for eclectic style is endless here. The store is organized into

two major categories of modern and traditional style with the options of outdoor

furniture and bar furniture thrown in. LP 2 also boasts low prim at low prices

which means you can get allot for your linden. Always a good thing if you ask me.

Another unlikely place to find great home accessories is Kyoot. Originally a

clothing store , Kyoot also has adorable little finds , the kind you pick up at a yard

sale that fit in with your home but have a story attached to them. The textures

are fantastic and the prices are very reasonable. Recently I picked up a set of

six 2 prim frames for my wall that were on sale for Fifty Linden Friday at , you

guessed it, just 50L. The frames are copy mod so you can resize them and use

them throughout your home.

Zero was the very first furniture store I came upon in Second Life and to this day

is a place I frequent for home decor. Zero has evolved to include many styles of

furniture and home decor including Victorian, traditional, contemporary and fun

decor for teens and children’s rooms. Here you will find whole rooms for just 350L

with beds that include intimate couples poses, single poses and multi partner

poses. The designs are low prim, low priced and well made. Perfect for those on a

budget in both lindens and prims. Individual accessories are priced to move

at 100L and lower. Also there are art and rug fat packs available. Zero has

everything you need for all rooms and outdoor spaces so it is truly a one

stop shop.

Our final stop is a very popular traditional furniture store with amazing

textures in colors and styles that suit any personality. The Loft is a fantastic

furniture store with prefab homes and several designs for your home. The

decor section is one of the best I have seen. It includes every type of knick

knack, potted plant, hanging and leaning art, and much more. Even those

balls in a dish, I mean...What are those for anyway? The loft is a very

high quality store with an equally high price tag but if you do not have the

budget for a full room or set there are many items sold individually that can

add a touch of class to your home. The Loft has also been in Fifty Linden

Friday so that is also a great way to acquire some of their designs.

I have enjoyed touring these amazing stores. I have many pieces in my

home that I have collected over the year and have also happened upon

them recently. I am continuously blown away by the creative minds that

build and create in Second Life and may need to add on to my home in

the near future. I just want it all LOL. I hope you will visit these stores and

find items for your home that suit your sense of style. For those who love

modern style, that’s totally fine, modern rocks. But for those who crave a cozier feel

to their home I hope these finds have helped you in your search for a home sweet

home.

As many of you may know, a very popular men’s fashion group; Make Him Overback this up, has recently been disbanded by owners Eros and Samara due to a personal incident that turned out to cause quite a lot of drama for everyone involved. If you’re the kind of guy who likes to keep up to date with what is happening on the Second Life male fashion scene, you may have recently found yourself ejected from the Make Him Over group without explanation. But fortunately all is not lost. Ivy Maverick of Maverick Design has been working with the Make Him Over group since the very beginning, and with strong loyalty to the designers and members, has stepped up to create the official Make Him Over successor group, Menstuff.

I didn’t really know much about the Make Him Over group since I only recently joined the group for the MHOH4 Hunt, but I wanted to get a better perspective on things from a trusted source.

David Venter*:“Hello Ivy, I hope that you are well. Thank you for taking this time to speak with me. Happy Halloween by the way!”

Ivy Maverick: “You’re Welcome. Since I am a Nurse tonight I can take your temperature if you want!”

David Venter*:“Ha Ha, With the recent drama you might just have to. Please tell our readers a little bit more about the Make Him Over group and how it all began. How and when did you become involved with the group, and more importantly what exactly was your involvement?”

Ivy Maverick: “Sure. Sam and Eros (MHO Owners) told me that they started the group because they saw the lack of groups and information available for the men of SL. I started with the group when the very first MHO hunt began. I was a newer store and it was my first hunt ever. On that first hunt I went to all the stores hunting with everyone else, came back and put a complete avatar together with things I found on the hunt. I made an exclusive shape with a style guide (listing all the stores that I used with HUNT items) and gave it to all the hunters as a special gift. The guys flocked to my sim, crashing it a couple of times. It was one of my best moments in SL. Sam and Eros Loved it. –

For the Second hunt they asked me to put a contest together doing exactly what I had done with the first: putting looks together with ALL hunt items. We became close friends and I loved the MHO group and its owners. Eventually I was Group Manager and Contest manager.”

David Venter*:“What happened to the Make Him Over Group in recent days was quite sad, and I have noticed that an attempt has even been made to hijack the brand, by parties who never had any prior involvement with Make Him Over. Please shed some light on why you think the Make Him Over group owners have, bluntly put, “ditched us,” how you feel about it, and what you

have done to create a new space for designers and fashionistas alike?”

Ivy Maverick: *Big Sigh* “It was like watching your friends destroy something so special. I begged both of them that night not to do it. They were fighting over personal issues. Both are very passionate people and they made this group for the love of it, not for the fame or money. In fact, with the first hunts they were in the red and both paying out of pocket. Nothing I could say could sway either of them that night. Sam gave me five minutes to quickly make a group for the top 10 contestants we were just ready to announce. We still had the contest event 4 days later. I feel bad for Sam and Eros because

they can’t take it back, I also feel bad for the hunters who should not have been involved in the drama. I feel bad for the designers also, we have been through this a couple of times without ejection but this time it was for real.

As it was happening Rob1977 Moonites, owner of Fir and sponsor for the contest and hunt said “We need to do something” and I said “Let’s do it”, thus we created the Menstuff group to save what we could. We were sending notices to the MHO group as we waited to get ejected. I had so many IM’s that the side of my computer screen was full from top to bottom and my fingers hurt! *LOL*

As for the groups, no problem! People can join many groups. The only problem we had is the group that was created using the same logo and name as the original one. The only time I had seen the creator of this group was when he joined the contest. He had nothing good to say

about the hunt gifts or the contest yet he wanted to save a group that was already being saved by people that had worked on it for NO pay. It was just bizarre!”

David Venter*:“Is it accurate in saying that Menstuff is the official successor to the Make Him Over group and brand?”

Ivy Maverick: “When Sam and Eros calmed down the next day, Eros gave me the MHO group and the MHO Blog. We will not use the name but we will direct people to our new home :-) Sam and Eros gave us their blessings and they are not involved in this group. I believe both have left SL.”

David Venter*:“I am aware that you aren’t managing this new group by yourself. Who is involved with the management of the Menstuff group, why have you chosen to

work with them and what are their roles?”

Ivy Maverick: “By the second Hunt I asked Sam and Eros about getting sponsors for our contest so that we could have some money to pay for it. They agreed and from day one Rob1977 Moonites was on board, helping with anything that we needed. He is a great business person and I don’t say that a lot. He is the co-owner with me and will bring way more to the table than I could have imagined. He has a team that is getting us on track. It’s just fitting together so well, we are very excited!”

David Venter*:“The Make Him Over group was well known and recognized for their annual male fashion hunts. Are you planning any hunts with the Menstuff group?”

Ivy Maverick: “Actually the original group had about 3 hunts a year! And yes we have just announced our first hunt which will be January 29th, 2011!”

David Venter*:“Thank you very much for shedding some more light on this situation. Being a designer myself I have already joined the Menstuff group and I trust that only great things will come from it. Is there anything else that you would like to add?”

Ivy Maverick:“Thank you so much David, we believe the same. I would just like to add my thanks to all the stores and group members that have supported us through this messy time. I still feel the magic of the group, and that’s what it’s been all about for me.”

David Venter*:“Groups aside, how are things going over at Maverick Design? I believe that you have a new skin available. Please tell us a little bit more about that.”

Ivy Maverick: “Yes! We have a beautiful new skin out called “Hope” and its very popular already. She is very exotic and Sexy!”

David Valerian:“Oh that’s great, I’ll have to go and take a look. Thanks again for your time. It’s been great speaking with you!”

And there you have it folks. The Make Him Over group may be empty but it’s far from dead. Official successor group Menstuff is alive and kicking, bringing you the best of the Second Life male fashions.

If you are a guy struggling to find the best male fashions I recommend that you join the Menstuff group. The group is supported by hundreds of top designers and hosts regular hunts that help residents discover new male apparel stores in SL.

Earlier this year, I had something for a fashion epiphany. The setting for my moment of style could not have been more unlikely--I was at my friend’s party. I’d been standing near my friend, Megan. She was looking quite cute in a shirt dress and sculpted peep-toe shoe boots. Suddenly, my male companion whispered to me, “Why do women wear those weird clumpy shoes? They’re so unfeminine.”

Personally, I thought the shoes rocked. They were bold. They were shoes worn as a gesture of self-expression, not bland, ankle-flattering Barbie stilettos designed to satisfy male glances like the ones I was sporting. Instead of feeling smug about my date’s comment, I felt envious of Megan’s choice. The date did not make it to next spring but his comment stayed with me a lot longer.

You see, all my life my fashion choices had been dictated by the sentiment “What will a man think of this?”. For me, my image was not a trend, it was a way of life. When party

invitations came through my door, I went for dresses and outfits that hugged my curves. Everything had to be fitted, flattering and feminine. My work wear revolved around waist-cinching wrap dresses and body-skimming sweater dresses. I had spent years of my life rationalizing away my need for men’s sartorial approval. I blamed it on wanting

to flatter my hourglass shape or growing up in lycra-worshipping eighties. But I rarely cited the real reason; a slightly shameful dependency on the side--a long glance from a man.

Then I started going into Second Life. A world plugged into fashion and designers. A world wear you change major brands like Gucci into Maitreya, Kookie and Fri-day. Avatars constantly changing there sexy look-at-me tee’s into gorgeous silk and satin tops. Everyone’s avatar dress-ing solely to please themselves and each other, not to elicit stares from appreciative guys. And they look so awesome. I logged out of Second Life for one night and gave my wardrobe the kind of brutal assessment you save for failing relation-ships. I wrote it a kind of goodbye letter. “We’ve had so much good times, you and I. But I am not the person I once was, and it’s time to be moving on.” Out went the tight sweaters, the lycra dresses, and the Pussycat Doll heels. It was time for a trial separation. I headed out to buy a whole new ward-robe. A wardrobe filled with styles I want, and love wearing. Fashions for myself, and no one else. Extremely refreshed, I found myself talking about styling tips and fashion with members of my family and

friends. My sister especially, had always opted for statement va-va-voom- graphic tees, slouchy boots and jewelry from little town stores. “ Fashion should be self-expression.” She pointed out, “and the problem with dressing for men is you’re just constantly second guessing someone else’s style and tastes.”

Last month, I attended a wedding and for the first time ever, I braved the dreaded singles table not in curve-hugging satin but in exquisitely floaty Alberta Ferretti. And the finishing touch? Some sling-back shoe boots, of course. When I got home, it struck me--my clothes had been acting as fly repellent to the predatory drive-by merchants and catnip to the smart, inter-esting “keepers.”

“Why is it that as soon as I stop dressing for men, I start getting genuine interest from men?” I asked my fashion lover friend Lauren. “ I think,” she replied, “you’ve just answered your own ques-tion.”

Question: What brought you into Second Life and what did you expect to do here?

I came to SL in January 2007 . I was immediately seduced by the beauty of this world. Eventually I found what I was looking for: Dreams and Dreaming

I found more than I expected: creations, incredible artists and peoples, friend-ship and the most beautiful of all: Sam, the love of my life so you can imagine

how much SL is a gift from life for me :)

Question: How did you become a designer and what was your first design?

I’m a french woman, totally in love with french haute couture. I was totally in-spired by artists like Chanel, Lacroix, Balenciaga...so I wanted to follow them a

little in their world of beauty and imagination.

It was a simple gown named blue butterfly, not perfect I should admitt :) but I made it with all my heart :)

Question: What is the inspiration behind your designs?

it’s simple, just from my dreams, my imagination is without limits, i love beauty, i love class , i try to create a work of art, it’s like enjoying in front of a paint with a lot of details, precious fabric, including jewelry and accessories, originality in using what is available to them, the execution in the detail is

very important and mainly, the clothes should tell a story

Question: How does it feel to have recently celebrated Fellini couture’s 1 year anniversary in august ?

It was a great emotion really :)) At the beginning of this adventure i was very uncertain of the result and if people will like it...

After one year I’m very proud of my route, I worked a lot, I have never forgot-ten my dreams and why I’m here and I’m still so touched by nice words and love that people send me. This first anniversary is for me a gift and I hope to

have many others :)

Question:Your also known for your photography, how did you get involved in photography in Second Life?

This world is just so beautiful, it’s a infinite place of inspiration for artists, I needed a way to express mine; I found it through my pictures. Dreams can

create very powerful moods. Each photo is a refection of that mood, so, I try to put as much work into them as possible. I always use a lot of details. I never create without a feeling behind it, or something I want to express and share. If

it’s a photo of a person, I work until the expressions are perfect.

Question:How have you managed to balance your photography and design-ing and which do you prefer?

I should admit that I take a lot of time working of my design now and I

have a little less of time for my pictures, but when a gown is ended I have so much pleasure to work on the picture I will use to present it And sometimes when I need to express something more personal, I use a

picture to illustrate it. I have no preference, I just need the both :)

Question: What was the concept behind “Fellini’s Muse”?

Fauve (my wonderfull manager) and me thought that it was important to find a women, a dreamer to rep-resent our brand. Question:Who is your favorite real life designer and

why?

As I said before Christian Lacroix is for me the best of the designers. I’m in love with his creations, so origi-

nal, always worked with incredible details and pre-cious materials, just looking at his creations is travel-

ing in the dreamland.

Question:Did you receive any help from friends or family when you first started to design?

The most important help i receive when i started is the love and the support of my husband since 4 years: samlowry hawks. He always believed in me, always

surrounded me with his love, he’s an artist too and I’m his first admirer, his sensibility touches me so much and without him in my life I would never be this dreamer I

am...

Question: What are your future endeavors ?

I don’t know really. I should admit, I’m really not a busi-ness women so I let my inspiration working as she wants, as people still dream with my work I will continue in this

way....

Chantkare, by Applonia Criss and Long Pausch, is a store full of surprises. The whole space is filled with the pretty, and the glam, for both men and women. It’s a store where just one visit won’t suffice, because each time you return you’ll spot something you didn’t notice before tucked in between the vendors.

I caught up with Applonia to ask her a few quick questions as she promotes her Fall 2010 line.

Interview with Applonia Criss by Tracy Rubble

Radar: Hi Applonia. So Tell me... Where did you start with Second Life design?Applonia: I started like 2 years ago as a photographer, then moved into fashion design. I also have a background in fashion in Real Life.

Radar: Two years is a long time in Second Life. What would you say inspires you to keep on creating?Applonia: Honestly, I really do not know. I tend to always have tons of ideas floating around in my head. I’d say mostly it’s people that inspire me, be it Second Life or Real Life. I just read a lot, and then sketch all of my ideas, and voila.. inspiration.

Radar: So, what would you say inspired your Fall 2010 collections in par-ticular?Applonia: Well, my part-ner Long Pausch and I, discussed what we liked most about the Fall and also what we both have seen in the Real Life Fall collections. We decided we wanted to create a softer and more muted collection.

Radar: How long does it take you to create an outfit? Applonia: Wow, well it can be anywhere from one full day, to as long as a couple of weeks, de-pending on other factors and my frame of mind.

Radar: I bet things do sometimes get in the way, like other projects maybe? What does Chat-kare have planned for the future? What are your

next steps?Applonia: Well, there are lots of things in the pipe-line, and many more that we’d love to try... But for now, I’m keeping it a secret!

Radar: What advice would you give to the newer designers hitting the grid?Applonia: Never give up, Stay true to your fashion vision and always keep on learning!

Entry# 1Hello Sl! Let me introduce myself, I’m Fancy Bekkers. I have been in SL for over 3 years and have just begun my journey in modeling. I have always loved shopping and trying new looks. What girl doesn’t love to shop and find those bargains? Never thought I would be blogging but here I am. I met my best friend when we became coworkers. While we chatted and shopped one day I said I want to go to modeling school. We decided to do it together. That is when we started shopping around for an academy. Some didn’t get back to us and some had classes we couldn’t attend due to our schedule. Out of the blue one day she sends me an IM when I log on and says we have to apply to this school. We did right then and a few days later we were sitting in class. That school is MA modeling Agency and Academy. Annette Himmel and LuLu Coba were our in-structors. They were awesome! Always patient with all the questions. I stayed stressed though. I wasn’t sure I would be up to par or make it through but they were quick to assure me and everyone else how wonderful we were doing. That encouragement was what helped me the most. That and my bff, Lady, she shopped and stressed right along with me. My other bestie Demi was a lifesaver

a few times. I have met some of the best people in SL in mod-eling. There has only been one model that I have met that was a complete snob and thought she was God’s gift to Sl... Key-word there is thought :). OK I will leave that issue to another page in the fashion diaries, back to my journey ...... Our runway show we did for gradu-ation was fabulous. LuLu or-ganized it. We had a blast with that and when it was over it felt like such an accomplishment. I got my first modeling job as a Sage store model. One of my classmates, Maleha Inglewood, is the Manager there and when she let Lady know she was looking for models we filled out the applications and that day

we were hired. Talk about excited! I cant thank her enough. I absolutely love the people there. Sage is a fab designer. She puts her heart into every-thing she does. If you haven’t been by there yet, GO! She has some beau-tiful gowns as well as casual clothes. When you go, which I know you will :), make sure you check out her Guardian Angel Gown. She was inspired to create it by her mother who passed away a few months ago. It is absolutely gorgeous. Well more shopping and modeling to do so I will see you all next time..... Remember to look for that something that sets you apart and makes you, YOU. You are fabulous!

Entry# 2Hey all you lovely readers! Wow it has been a week. I never thought I would say this but, I need a day off from shopping LOL. I had the best weekend. I took part in the grand opening of Maleha Modeling Agency and School Sunday. We did a runway show and the theme was Drag Queen Diva’s. This gave me the opportunity to get cre-ative. I will tell you, I shopped and shopped. I didn’t think I would ever make up my mind on what I wanted to wear or how I wanted to present myself as a diva. I never saw so much wild hair! Did you know there was a drag queen AO out there? OMG it is the funniest thing ever. I thought I was prissy, umm not until you see that. Talk about major attitude! LOL loved it! I think I finally made up my mind the night before dress rehearsals. Shopping wears you out and there is so much work that goes into modeling and the runway . It is loads of fun though. There is always more to learn. The people were fabulous. I came up with two outfits. One was an electric gown from Utopia, hair was from Tukinowaguma and shoes from Maitreya (love those). My other outfit was the vida dress from Vogue, hair from Tukinowaguma and Bax boots in black leather. Throw in some wild make up and some major attitude and you have yourself a drag queen diva. Modeling and fashion is rapidly becoming more of a passion for me. I loved it before but getting on that runway gives me such a rush. I absolutely love it. It is fun and stressful all in one. When it is over and you realize what a fabulous job you and your fellow models have done it is a feeling like no other. When I beat the lag and hit those marks and pose where and how I am suppose to I feel like a giddy teenage girl again. Well I am over my no more shopping mind-set, that was a quick recovery wasn’t it? There are casting calls and photoshoots coming up so I better get busy.

Entry #1The start of my modeling career...Hi I’m LadyLouis.....I have been in SL almost 4 years seen a lot done a lot.

The decision to become a model came on suddenly, and I decided to take on the journey with my bestie Fancy. But once our minds were made up we went into it full steam only to be pushed back a little by agencies not responding back to inquiries now don’t get me wrong I understand it is a busy oc-cupation for all involved. So I didn’t let that stop me...Then finally I found the place for me quite by accident and de-cided this is it..MA Modeling Academy...The first day of class I was nervous and ex-cited..And ready to begin my journey. We learned about each other and the Academy our instructor Annette Him-mel was patient and full of knowledge and really went out of her way to answer any questions big or small...The second instructor was Lulu

Coba(she is a ball of energy) she made everything seem easy to do and was a great teacher, with her no question was too small.

OMG before we knew it was time for finals and the pre show and what that is basically is a run through before the final show for us the final show was graduation...For the pre show we had a theme..Mine was never never land we had to have three outfits with accessories time to shop(my fav thing to do)I decided to be a butterfly, pirate

and a fairy...We stressed over the show and practiced like never before we wee awe-some!! LOL...And then they hit us with the final exam a runway show with the theme Masquerade Ball...Again more shopping yes!!! One thing about modeling it is a cre-ative and very imaginative process and the ladies in my class really brought that out..We hit the runway looking fab and really worked it!! Entry#2Hello everyone well back again from another exciting and interesting week..Well lets see what went on in my modeling journey..I am proud to say I was a part of an interesting runways show to launch a new model-ing agency MM Agency (Maleha Modeling Agency &School) the con-cept was very original Drag Queen Divas yes you read that right Drag Queens...To say this was a interesting concept is putting it mildly but oh what fun it was shopping for those outrageous outfits and even wilder hairstyles to do this show justice. Not to mention we had to compete with men dressed in drag and let me tell you they looked pretty damn good even with muscles..LOL...Everyone went to the extreme and back,,,yours truly went from a sexy buckled formal to a eye dropping sexy little number that made the imagination work. I was also chosen to be a print model for Sage Fashions..I was chosen to wear Submissive,,yes I know but it is a black silk and also Diva Pink...Which was the outfit chosen to close the Drag Queen Diva show. Well that was my exciting week in modeling..And of course I did it all with my bestie Fancy!! Come back next time and see what happens next...Until then Keep ya head up!!!

1. When did you first decide to be a designer in SL and what was your first design?

I started designing in early March 2007. My first 2 dresses were made in a sandbox. It was quite a weird working place. I transferred 12 euros inworld to open my first store in a mall and one week later the two dresses started to sell. I reinvested all the earnings inworld to be able to grow.

2. Did you know at that point that you were going to open a store and make designing your permanent sl profession?

Yes there was a point after one and half years creating for SL and many things to do for it and my RL work schedule which was packed too. So I needed to decide for one way to not get ripped apart and that was SL.

3. What was the inspiration behind the “LeeZu” style and brand?

Getting out my creativity. I love to create and I love to work in a digital environment, besides the fact that it’s a great feeling when you know you can make people happy too. Satisfaction of our customers is a vital part of LeeZu!

4. What was the name of the first outfit designed specifically for LeeZu? Can you describe it for us?

That was the Butterfly Flexi Dress. It’s a colorful more fantasy inspired dress, with flower pat-terns.

5. LeeZu certainly has it’s own unique style. It cannot be labeled like most brands in sl with the traditional styles such as “elegant” “formal” “casual”, etc. If you had to put a label on the LeeZu style what would it be?

6. I love the way so many outfits and designs in LeeZu can be mixed and matched to come up with several looks. Was that something that you set out to achieve when designing or do the designs just mesh naturally?

The idea of mixing and matching was born very early, because I love to do Collages. It gives you the possibility to put small parts together and create something completely new out of existing things.

7. Did you have any idea when you first started that LeeZu would be one of the biggest fashion names in SL? How do you feel about the great success of it now?

No, in the beginning I hadn’t thought at all that we could reach that many people. Of course, I wished that one day I could exchange my RL job (Graphic Design) into working only for SL, and as of now I am very thankful that this wish came true. I can’t thank my customers and my Staff and Models enough for their time and encouragement. I am very happy and blessed.

8. Are there any new plans in the mix for LeeZu? Any new lines coming out soon that you would like to share with us? Or any other future plans?

Future plans I do have enough, but sadly not the time to catch up that fast. As I am the only creator for LeeZu, developing things takes tremendous time. Especially now as the possibility has grown to create higher quality products as in the past. But yes, I have ideas enough and will not stop running after myself. One main change will be also the upcoming mesh import on which I need to prepare LeeZu! Too.

9. What is your favorite LeeZu Design and why?

I love all my babies :)

10. If you could go back and change anything along the way, what would it be? Do you have any advice for new designers just getting started?

I wouldn’t change anything. Luckily LeeZu! Is known as a healthy and drama free Company, with the focus on the satisfaction of customers. My advice for new designers would be to have a lot of patience and faith, if they think that they offer a good quality product up to the SL standards as it is now. The grid is huge. Either you have excellent contacts or you just grow as LeeZu! Slow but steady :)

“ACS Makeover Magic” is the Second Life equivalent of a real life program, “Look Good...Feel Better” - a free, community-based service in the USA that helps cancer survivors to restore their appearance and self-image during treatment.

Poppy Zabelin, Group Advisor and Leader of ACS Makeover Magic, was kind enough to share her Mission Statement with me.

The Look Good...Feel Better program in real life was founded and developed in 1989 by the Personal Care Products Council, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry, in cooperation with the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA),

We have adapted this program for our virtual world. “From Looking Good to Feeling Better” is our slogan. Our goal is to honor and pamper both cancer survivors and cancer caregivers. Survivor participants can still be in treatment, recovery, or in remission. Caregivers can be emotionally and physically exhausted. A makeover can do wonderful things for someone.

Mentors are a vital part of the whole makeover

process. We look for people who can work as part of the committee. To focus on their participant, help them find that amazing new look, whether it is a full or partial makeover.

There are two mentors for each participant who can be male or female. For the person beyond the avatar, receiving a makeover can give them such a lift. This is so important that some of the past participants have or are now members of the ACS Makeover Magic Committee.

If you are a Makeover Mentor, this can be an experience of a lifetime. Mentors make serious commitments of their time, knowledge, talents and skills. Not only is there the shopping with a participant, but also be in the Fashion Show alongside the participant.”

With all the worthwhile and wonderful charities out there for all to help support, I came across one that was so different and intriguing, I had to find out more about it. I saw a notice asking for any models, male and female, to participate as “Mentors” for people with, or a survivor/caregiver of, cancer. I remember thinking to myself…now that sounds interesting. It’s much more than just making a contribution monetarily, or donating one’s time as in an action,

or purchasing items to help support the cure. But to actually have a hands on experience in helping someone on the “front lines” if you will. Meeting them, getting to know them, and hearing their story.

Once the mentors were assigned a participant, we were given a shopping list of participating designer’s who donated items from their stores and the shopping began! We were able to help them select a new look or style that best represented the look they wanted and it was great fun for everyone.

The best part about the shopping experience is that the participants with their new “looks” get to be showcased in the finale Runway Show scheduled on Nov. 7th 2010 at 11:00am SLT at – Also the 2nd Annual Galas will be held on November 13 2010, at 11:00 AM SLT and again at 6:00 PM SLT at ACS Island I had a chance to sit down and spoke with Cinders Vale and Boot Janus, Coordinators of ACS Makeover Magic, and here’s a little bit of what they had to say.

Q: Thanks for giving me some time to sit down and get to know you both a little

better.

BJ: It’s our pleasure.CV: Glad we could have this opportunity to speak to you.

Q - What made you both interested in getting involved in this organization?

BJ: I started my involvement as an event fund raiser for RFL. A good friend who was a makeover participant nominated me to the ACS Group a year ago as a mentor and I’ve been with ACS since then.

CV: In 2007 I was chosen for the Digital Do-Over: Survivors Edition. It was a wonderful experience that gave me a lift for the entire year. In 2008, Poppy Zabelin, Chair of the SL’s Cancer Survivors group contacted me. She asked if I would head up the new version, Survivor Makeover Magic. I wanted to give back since I’d benefited so much from my makeover. I accepted the offer and I’ve been the coordinator since.

Q - How was your overall experience with your mentor/participant?

BJ: Well my participants needed to drop from the program due to RL health and commitment issues. So I really just filled in where needed.

CV: A - In 2007 I had Carissa Crimson as my ‘angel’ and she was terrific. She made my shape for me and was patient while I shopped for my look.

Q - What is the most important thing you have learned during this experience?

BJ: Patience. From organizing to execution. There have been many bumps along the way but you learn to roll with them.

CV: As the coordinator for four makeovers, it has been harried and wonderful. I’ve been lucky enough to have met some fabulous people, participants, mentors, designers, committee members, and many others.

Q. – Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers about yourselves?

BJ: Just that you learn everyday and even thou it can be very challenging at times, the rewarding feeling one gets makes it all well worth it.

CV: Working together we can accomplish almost everything. To give the participants an experience they won’t ever forget. To fulfill our motto “ From looking good to feeling better”. It all ties together, you can’t have one without the others.

And I am an active member of the survivors group.Q: When was your cancer discovered and where are you in your treatment? SD: August 27, 2002 for the Breast cancer and the Soft tissue Sarcoma on Jan. 2008, and my treatment if complete.Q: That’s wonderful and congratulations on completing

your treatment! What can you share about the prognosis? SD: I will always be watched but I am here. Q: Are you a member of the SL Cancer Survivors Group? If so, how did you find the group? SD: Yes, and I was around when it startedQ: How has joining the group helped or supported you? SD: Being involved was a great distraction for me. It helped me focus on others and not be swallowed up by what was happening to me.Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? SD: Attitude really can beat the odds!

Q: For what reason did you come into SL? ES: I initially came on to understand what it was all about from the business side. I stayed on SL for the social connections.Q: What are your feelings/reactions about having been chosen as a participant for Makeover Magic? ES: I was flattered and at first a bit concerned that I might be the only Y-chromosome in the bunch. Thankfully that is not so. As the process has unfolded, and working with my mentors, I feel more and more the importance of this event – to walk proudly, bravely presenting oneself to others as a survivor of cancer and to celebrate with our compassionate caregivers and our gracious mentors. It is a public celebration of a growing community of those of us who walk forward despite

what we are asked to bear, and of those who allow us to lean on them and help us continue.Q: Please tell us about your cancer journey that you are comfortable sharing. ES: I was diagnosed with a cerebellar Medulloblastoma in 1993 when I was 28. This is mainly a pediatric tumor and is rarely seen in adults. I had a full resection at Stanford University followed by a full course of whole brain and spine radiation therapy. I eventually returned to work as an attorney and considered the event to be behind me.

In hindsight, I can see that I began having symptoms earlier, but it was not until 2007 that I left work on disability. During that earlier period, I just thought I was losing it.I’m now reluctantly at the forefront of our understanding of the brain, on the wrong side of the lab-bench, and only too aware that we have little understanding of the executive dysfunctions that I exhibit and far less knowledge on what to do about them. My goal is to push the envelope forward for myself and others who will benefit from further research.Q: Are you a member of the SL Cancer Survivors Group?ES: Yes, and I am very grateful for it--more than I can convey in writing. I must have searched in SL for “cancer” and I was fortunate to come across Poppy. This group is my anchor and I look forward to participating and sharing each and every week.I appreciate more the variety of cancer diagnoses Synergy Devonshire

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?ES: I am so very grateful for this SL support community and for how robust it is. I am extraordinarily grateful for the experience I have in this group of truly being listened to, accepted, and helped both practically and emotionally.

Sharon Yorkiv – CAREGIVER FOR HER HUSBAND Stage 4 cancer of the duodenum with a secondary Stage 2 tumor on his spine

Q: What are your feelings/reactions about having been chosen as a participant for Makeover Magic?SY: I feel very honored. I know the First Life program it is based on and all the good it does for people. This comes at a time when I was feeling tired out and drained with life and being treated so special is more then I can put into words.Q: Please tell us details about your caregiver responsibilities that you are comfortable sharing with our readers.SY: You know how when a couple is expecting a baby they say “WE are pregnant” will in this case WE have cancer. I have been sharing my husband’s journey with cancer. November of 2009 my husband Rick started having chest pains. We knew the problem was not his heart or lungs; finally the Dr. thought it may be a problem with the muscles between the ribs. A CT-Scan was ordered in February 2010. On the scan a tumor was found wrapped around his spine, and

after a biopsy proved cancer, we found out he had Stage 4 cancer of the duodenum with a secondary Stage 2 tumor on his spine. It seems like from the moment we found out our lives have become a date book of appointment for office visits, treatments and surgeries.

I have driven him back and forth to the cancer center/ hospital 25 miles away, a hundred times. In the first 154 days of his cancer 57 of them were spent checked into the hospital. All along I was doing all the things a good wife would do for the man she loves. Driving him back and forth, making sure he had in medications on schedule, helping him bath after surgery, making meal that he could keep down and that would help him to try to put back some of the 45 pounds he had lost. I turned the living-room of our home into a bedroom for him since he could walk up the stairs to the second floor bedroom.

It seemed that the 12 weeks of Chemo treatment we missed to have the surgery was at to great of a cost. During the time off chemo the cancer has spread. We have been told by different Dr’s that in the best case scenario he may be alive to see our oldest son graduate from high school this June. I have learned to take each day at a time, enjoy and make the most of the good days and just get though the bad days. she said I should do a search for cancer support and I did. I was very happy to have found ASC Caregivers Support group. I join the group and within minutes I had 3 new friends. I started going to the group meeting and found out that I am not alone is all of this. Q: How long have you been in SL? CC: This is second avatar so total maybe 1.5 yearsQ: What are your feelings/reactions about having been chosen as a participant for Makeover Magic?CC: I was excited at first and I do think it’s a nice idea and most people involved in it have given a lot of time and energy to it. Q: What kind of cancer do you have and how was it discovered? CC: Lung cancer. A lung x-ray showed a spot in June 2009. In Jan. 2010 one doc insisted on the x-ray again to check it. He insisted it grew

enough to be cancer 3 other docs argued with him and said it couldn’t be. He pushed for further testing and many argued with him. After a biopsy and cat scan they finally said he was correct and they didn’t believe it because it was smaller than they were taught to think cancer could be. They removed half of my left lung in February 2010 2 weeks later. Luckily they got it all and I didn’t have to go thru any other treatments.Q: That’s great to hear Cher! Are you a member of the SL Cancer Survivors Group and how did you find the group? CC: Yes. I did a search one night in SL just curious about cancer info and ran across it.Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?CC: The support is beyond words in sl’s group. In real life it’s not too many that have been through exactly what you have and it’s so nice to hear others feeling the same as you do. I’m not capable of going to support in RL so SL is so wonderfully convenient for the same thing.

Jesslyn Dagger – SURVIVOR of Papillary Thyroid Cancer

Q: How long have you been in SL? JD: I have been in Second Life since April of 2007 Q: For what reason did you come into SL? JD: I came to SL looking for a virtual 3D chat room. I stayed because of the incredible level of freedom when it comes to being yourself and creating, well, everything.Q: What are your feelings/reactions about having been chosen as a participant for Makeover Magic? JD: At first I was rather startled. This past year was the first year I participated rather fully in the SL RFL weekend, walking a full lap during the survivor hour and assisting my real life family with donating just shy of $50 USD worth of track luminaries. The year previous I was aware of the event but had not participated much at all. Being a cancer survivor, I also started to go to a few support meetings. Even so, because I am so new to the ACS SL community

I never expected to be chosen for anything, let alone a Second Life makeover. Q: What can you share about the prognosis/treatments? JD: What started as a fairly standard doctor’s appointment (for another, unrelated ailment discovered at the same time - rheumatoid arthritis) in late 2008 revealed a tiny nodule on one of the lobes of my thyroid gland. When the biopsy results came back suspicious, I opted to have the half of my thyroid with the nodule removed and tested. The first surgery occurred just after the New Year in the first half of January 2009. The removed portion was sent away for further testing, and the results clearly pointed to cancer. Only 14 days passed between the initial surgery and a second to remove the rest of my thyroid, in order to limit the potential of more cancerous cells forming. I feel very good, and am happy that the cancer was caught very early in its development.

Q: Congratulations Jesslyn on your successful surgery! Are you a member of the SL Cancer Survivors Group? How did you find the group? JD: I am a member of the SL survivors

group, yes. I found it on a random trip to the ACS sim via an information sign. It took me quite awhile to work up the courage to actually attend a meeting, but now I am very glad that I did.

Pro Receant – SURVIVOR of Soft Tissue Sarcomas

Q: How long have you been in SL? PR: 3 years Q: For what reason did you come into SL? PR: Virtual Reality Modeling was a science I wanted to learn more about. So I came to explore and found a nice new world.Q: What are your feelings/reactions about having been chosen as a participant for Makeover Magic?PR: Mixed, it’s an honor to be chosen, and I have been chosen for many honors this year. I almost feel a bit greedy that all these blessings are raining down on me.Q: Please share with our readers what kind of cancer do you have and when was it discovered? PR: Various soft tissue sarcomas (pleomorphic sarcoma, spindle cell sarcoma, Leiomyoscaroma,

liposarcoma. In 2005, pleomorphic sarcoma discovered after removal of a huge tumor which invaded my right kidney.Q: What can you share about the prognosis? PR: 3 time survivor, soon to be 4 time survivor!Q: That’s great Pro! Congrats! Are you also a member of the SL Cancer Survivors Group, and if so how did you find out about it?PR: Yes. Relay for Life placard at the survivor display.Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with us? PR: Joining the SL groups has helped and supported me so much. I have met many wonderful people that have shared with me and I have met people with similar experiences that I do not have access to in real life. Global connections make the world a smaller place and bring into contact people I would never have a chance to meet in Real Life.
