The corporate structure
Radio Activity S.r.l. is a young and dynamic engineering company,
operating in Milan since 2003. The main activities are projects, de-
velopments and supplying of integrated telecommunication sys-
tems for Professional Mobile Radio market.
Radio Activity is a node of a network of excellence’s partners. The
research and the development carried out inside the Company in-
volves Radio Frequency, Digital Signal Processing and IP networking
fields. The Company, taking advantage of external professionals of
highest level with multidisciplinary skills, is able to create, each
time, work groups in order to solve the most complex projects and
to satisfy the most demanding Customer’s requirement. The result
is a flexible and light structure, to reduce the fixed costs and to al-
low to always take advantage of the best available technology.
The productive activities are entrusted to various companies spe-
cialized in electronic components supplying, electrical and mechani-
cal assembling. The final inspection of equipments and networks
comes carried out inside Company, following high quality stan-
dards. The internal processes are ISO9001:2008 certified.
The installation activities and the first level technical assistance are
entrusted to local Companies to quickly answer the demands of as-
sistance. The second level technical assistance is carried out from
the Company that, through remote control opportunities, can guide
the local staff to the correct operations of restoration.

Products and solutions Base station RA-XXX family
Radio Activity designs, manufactures, and markets radio commu-
nications equipments in all PMR bands (70/160/450MHz), both
analog and digital ones. The RA-XXX is the newest family of Digi-
tal Mobile Radio Base station:
DMR is the newest European digital standard, (see ETSI TS 102
361 and ETSI TR 102 335). It is a good alternative to Tetra radio
systems, because the supported services are similar but the costs
are smaller than Tetra.
The RA-XXX base stations gives the followings features:
∞ it is fully digital but is able to automatically change the format
(analog/DMR ) to facilitate a soft standard’s migration
∞ it works in all PMR bands 80/160/450MHz
∞ it is fully compatible with the most common DMR terminal
equipments and any analog device on the market
∞ it is designed to build simulcast or multicast multisite networks
(analogue and digital) with all the needed functions built-in:
automatic equalization, synchronization, timing recovery, vot-
ing system, …
∞ it uses the soft diversity reception for increase the up-link RF
margin and to reduce the fading effects
∞ it is able to operate with the most popular links interfaces
(TCP/IP, E1/T1, UHF link, copper pairs, and mixed configura-
tions) and it is easy to design, install and maintain
∞ it offers several IP ports to connect to a number of applica-
tions like automatic telephone line interface, PC based dis-
patcher desk, SCADA, ...
∞ it uses a very high performance and flexible LINUX platform
∞ it is fully controllable by a powerful remote control system

Multisite simulcast/multicast DMR radio networks
Multisite network is mandatory when the coverage area requires
more than one repeater. A multisite radio network can be realized
with a multi-frequency (multicast) or with a simulcast approach.
Multicast needs a frequency scanning on the terminals and does-
n’t guarantee real-time roaming and hand-over. Therefore many
manufacturers in the past tried to build simulcast network but
without good result and at a very high cost. Our speciality is the
Simulcast Network. To do this it is mandatory a perfect knowledge
of the protocol, RF environments and the DSP algorithms. We are
very skilled in it and we designed a own base station that imple-
ments all the needed algorithms.
Through the Ethernet port of the base station it is easy to realize
extremely flexible network’s structures based on a IP/LAN back-
bone network.
Automatic DMR telephone interface
The RA-TI-01/02 performs an automatic radio to telephone and
telephone to radio interfaces for DMR systems. These modules
operate in standalone mode (no PC needed) and they can be used
in conjunction with any RA-XXX DMR radio family.
These modules contain a full LINUX RISC processor and two DSP
for audio coding and decoding. A lot of applications may be avail-
able by using the extremely compact coded bandwidth and the
powerful built-in functionalities. The main applications are target
to the DMR radio communication Operative Centers.

The RA‑MD1 is a Communication Controller composed of an em-
bedded analog DCE and a high performances RISC processor,
equipped with LINUX operating system, which manages the
whole device and handles the HW/SW communication interfaces
needed for serial and LAN (Ethernet 10BT/100TX) data ports.
The embedded analog DCE is designed to work on a standard 2/4
wire interface, with the availability of E&M signaling, using the
V.34 standard on a narrow band audio channel (300÷3400 Hz).
The DSP algorithms are optimized to work in very noisy or non-
linear audio channels like analog TRX, power line boosters, audio
networks, and so on.
The main application is as “LAN Extender” between two IP net-
works connectible through a poor audio channel.
Digital audio matrix
Radio Activity has got in his portfolio a digital audio matrix solu-
tion up-gradable up to 28 X 4W+E&M or 2W interfaces for line/
radio connection. The matrix works in conjunction with an Host
PC for the connections setting. A lot of code/decode protocol are
available (contact factory for applications availability) for fleet
management purpose, voting system, PABX to radio interface,
networks interconnection, trunking applications, ….
Special devices
Telemetry, measurements, data collection are some example
only of the capability of us: Radio Activity, thanks of his little di-
mension and his high skill, is able to deeply customize his prod-
ucts and to design new equipments or solutions to match the
Customer’s needs. Unlike the bigger manufacturers, Radio Activ-
ity give a real “open source” environment over that his partners
are able to develop own applications.
