Safe, reliable service, are of course among those, and Londoners know that with a taxi you can always be assured you are getting to your destination via the optimum route. And of course, if, along the way, you fancy a spirited commentary, a good joke, or the latest football score, your driver will likely have that, as well. Now, we’re not saying that more people using taxis means the economy is headed up or down – only that it’s an important enough sector of the economy to warrant a good look when trying to figure out how the rest of the country and certainly London’s economy is doing. I’m no economist, but I am happy to report that RTG’s growth in trips rose four percent last quarter. It doesn’t matter if they are big or small – businesses are beginning to recognise that green practices are not only healthy, but profitable. “Consumers are beginning to demand the companies they use be environmentally friendly,” Riesel said. “Our green efforts have been successful for our bottom line, and for building customer loyalty. Our clients are aware that we are committed to reducing the causes of climate change while running a highly-successful modern business. RTG made the decision several years ago to become a carbon neutralcompany, and it – and the Earth – are all the better for it. A disability doesn’tmean you should miss out on life, and we certainly don’t want theseinspirational young people to miss out on the Lord Mayor’s Show!”

The Lord Mayor’s procession has continued through nearly 800 yearsof London’s history. It is a wonderful and joyous day out for half amillion people, with millions more watching on the BBC.

The procession is over three miles long, travelling from MansionHouse to the Royal Courts of Justice, where the Lord Mayor takes anoath of allegiance before the Lord Chief Justice and the judges of theQueen’s Bench Division. The procession sets off on the return journeyfrom Victoria Embankment to Mansion House. The splendid day iscapped with a firework display from a barge moored in the Thamesbetween Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges.

“We know, to the second, whereall our taxis are!”

“Things have changed so much operationally, but we’re still thesame company,” Gavin said. “We’re much more advancedtechnologically. But it is still all about the customer. All of ourimprovements are so we can serve our public faster, safer andmore efficiently.”

Just this month, RTG upgraded its Voice Over InternetProtocol (VOIP) phone system, which can even allowcustomer service representatives to take calls at home overtheir computers.

Additionally, improved is its CMS reporting capabilities. The CMS system enables managers to gauge different metricson the various categories of calls that come in – cash; creditcard; account; account; VIP and network.

Additionally, the call centre’s high speed automaticGPS closest cab despatch system provides updatedsnapshots every three seconds about where RadioTaxis cabs are.

“We know, to the second, where all of our taxis are,”Gavin said. “That way, we can tell someone callingexactly which taxi, which driver, which registrationnumber is closest to them, and how quickly they will bethere. Again, it’s all about the customer.”

Call Centre TechnologicalUpgrades BenefitsPassengers...

OPERATIONS MANAGER FIONA GAVIN has been with Radio TaxisGroup for 26 years, and when she looks out on RTG’s state-of-the-art callcentre, she can barely believe what she sees.

Back then, she worked in a noisy control room where orders came in on dockets, that then were placed on a conveyor belt and taken into an adjacent room forprocessing by a scrum of “Voice despatchers.” Now she oversees a climate-controlled complex filled with computers, video screens and numbers updatinginformation by the second.

Radio Taxis Group’s state-of-the art call centre at Mountview

House recently underwent significant technological upgrades,

including the installation of a VOIP phone system

and improved CMS reporting capabilities.
