With an unemployment rate of almost 27% in the Cape Peninsula, we started an ongoing project to empower our community by offering a weekly job-seeking program. This program is broadcasted every Tuesday at 10h30 and we aim to bring employers and people who are looking for a job, together. This information is made available at our offices to everybody, free of charge.

Hundreds of people have already successfully secured employment through this priceless service.

Radio Tygerberg, in partnership with the Heart- and Stroke Foundation, hosts a heart health day annually on Valentine’s Day. We invite our listeners to buy a sticker for only R5, to dress red, and then to visit our outside broadcast for a free glucose- and blood pressure test. We offer talks on healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle in an informal fun setting. The sole purpose of this event is to make people aware of the fact that a “Healthy lifestyle is a Godly lifestyle”.

One of the tragic outcomes of the unfortunate demise of business people or companies, is the tragic stories of the innocent people left in their wake. One such story is the Fidentia Youth Choir. The future of the choir, consisting of mainly desolate children, was uncertain. Radio Tygerberg undertook to sponsor the children with their immediate and medium term needs until such time as another sponsor could be found. We made good on our promise and furthermore facilitated their connection between the choir and corporate companies to give them a new breath of life. Our moment of pride came when this youth choir was the guest artist at the prestigious Shoprite/Checkers, SABC 2 Women of the Year award Ceremony. They also performed at our “Gospel Skouspel”.

The Carel du Toit centre recently celebrated their 34th birthday with great fanfare and Radio Tygerberg gave them wonderful exposure and publicity by hosting an Outside Broadcast on the premises with the compliments of 104fm.

We believe our community needs to know about the plight of those with disablilities and the only way to do this, is to give them regular exposure to those less fortunate.

We believe that our youngsters need healthy recreation instead of electronic and superficial entertainment. With the help of “Living Ball” foundation, the children had lots to enjoy - from slippery slides to ball games, face painting and jumping castles to choose from. The “Living Ball” foundation handed out balls and while the children played with their favourite sports heroes, they also received the message of salvation in a fun way.

On Saturday, 14 April, the Living Word congregation hosted their annual fun walk in aid of the Bible Society of South Africa. Radio Tygerberg this year took part in the festivities and entered a team of 18 staff members to participate in the 2,5km and 5km fun walks.

The entry fee was R25 which means that for every entry received a Bible was sponsored. The Bibles will be donated to people who would otherwise not be able to afford one. A free live outside broadcast further helped to ensure the success of this worthy cause.

We realize that staying in our own comfort zone is not an option. Last year Radio Tygerberg decided to get involved with an evangelical outreach to the Democratic Republic of Congo. CEO Hardus Zevenster left on this outreach. During this time they had a crusade in the dangerous Eastern side of the country where almost 20 000 people attended daily. Afterwards evangelists were equipped with spiritual training, Bibles and other spiritual printed material as well as bicycles. We feel proud to be involved in this immense task of reaching the most remote parts of the DRC with the message of Salvation.

Thousands of lives were touched and the investment made by Radio Tygerberg will touch even more lives in time to come. This was made possible with the support of our own community that felt the need to be witnesses not just in Jerusalem but also to the rest of the continent. (Acts 1:8)

Most of our listeners will never in their lifetime be able to afford a ticket to attend a live performance of their favourite gospel stars. On 12 May 2007, the Xhosa department of Radio Tygerberg hosted a Gospel Revival concert at the Oliver Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha and of the artists who appeared at the concert were; “Youth with a Mission”, Marko Gospel Singers” and “Lumkile”, to mention but a few.

The day was filled with praise and worship and the name of the Lord was glorified in beautiful singing and praising. For our listeners, an unforgettable day.

Radio Tygerberg was approached by one of our corporate clients, Shoprite/Checkers, to facilitate a donation of R 300 000 worth of new school clothes to children in our community with the biggest need. This tough process were tackled by excited Radio Tygerberg staff members that took weeks to assign these clothes to needy children from various schools. This was another triumph for the great partnership Radio Tygerberg forms with our business community.

On Friday 25 May 2007 Radio Tygerberg in partnership with our business club, presented the first annual Radio Tygerberg “Jail ’n Bail” for CANSA.At this event numerous of the top business people of the Western Cape were “arrested” and transported to the “courthouse” where they were ‘fined’ with amounts ranging between R500 and R1 000 per person. Radio Tygerberg takes pleasure in announcing that we were able to collect R50 000 for CANSA with this event.

What started as a cold river challenge ended in an astonishing amount of R225 000 collected for CANSA. This was the CANSA Bergriver Challenge that started in Paarl and ended in Velddrift. Radio Tygerberg was there and in taking the cold water head-on, our CEO and team Radio Tygerberg managed to create valuable exposure for this worthy cause.

Last year the Cape saw one of the wettest, coldest winters for years. Radio Tygerberg launched a project where we appealed to our listeners to bring non-perishable foods to enable us to distribute it to the needy. With the donations in hand, as well as warm vests and socks for the children, we visited the Holy Cross childrens’ home to bring a bit of warmth in the cold winter. Our listeners are the best!

A Gospel Extravaganza the likes of which has never been seen before in Mitchell’s Plain. Revered and much loved artists such as Phillipine, Beverley Riley, Rouchelle Liedemann, Ivan Siegelaar and international gospel star Lionel Peterson all performing together on one stage. On Sunday 22 July 2007 the Mitchell’s Plain Gospel Extravaganza was hosted by Radio Tygerberg and attended by thousands of listeners. Thousands more had to be turned away. This year, we promise to return again – bigger, better and louder than before!

It is common knowledge that TIK is a major problem in Cape Town with more than 60% of our youth that is either using TIK or have experimented with it. We decided to tackle this problem head-on and invited people to bring “TIK to the Cross”. At a spiritually laden service, people across the board were invited to attend a special sermon the day after the ‘Gospel Skouspel’, and even more people turned up for this free service. Renowned preachers, Dr Zevenster and Gerhard Kotze symbolically took this problem to the cross and attendees were invited to write down the names of loved-ones and lay them down for intercession. The response was overwhelming and 3715 people came forward to acknowledge the problem and to ask for prayer. We truly felt the Holy Spirit move as he touched thousands of souls in a miraculous way.

Radio Tygerberg is a radio station in the community, for the community. Wherever possible we go to our community to bring joy. Recently we visited the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre. This centre rehabilitates people who have lost the use of their limbs due to accidents or illnesses to regain partial use of the affected limbs. For a few hours we provided music while patients participated in Karaoke. What a blast!

As part of our community upliftment program, Radio Tygerberg this year decided to get involved with the national final exam of our matriculants.

Together with the Department of Education of the Western Cape, we helped to distribute thousands of matric papers of 2005/2006 free of charge to any matriculant who cared to fetch it from our offices.

CD’s with exam papers and memoranda were also available on request.

Businessmen and women form an integral part of our partnership with our community. We have various business breakfasts during the course of the year where business leaders are informed of all our outreach programmes and how they can get involved.

During the RWC 2007 we were treated on our quarterly business breakfast with an array of former Springbok rugby heroes. When asked about the role that God played in their everyday life as well as on the field, the overwhelming answer was that not one of them would have reached the heights they did were it not for the grace of God. Every one of these distinguished men shared their short testimony of how they came to know the Lord.

Rosedon House is a home for more than 60 physical and mentally disabled people. These poor souls are frequently forgotten by society. After our previous visit we were inundated with requests from staff and residents to please come and visit again. Our listeners once again contributed and with gift bags in hand, we paid another visit. We take tokens of comfort of support from our listeners to those in dire need.

Every year Radio Tygerberg hosts the ‘Adopt-a-Child’ project as our main community service project of the year. The community get the opportunity to “Adopt a Child” for a day by means of donating R100 per child or to offer help on the day.

Orphans from across the Cape Peninsula - from Muizenberg to Malmesbury - with ages ranging from 3 tot 13, were treated by Radio Tygerberg to a splendid Christmas Party on Saturday, 17 November 2007. This forms part of our annual outreach where all the personnel of Radio Tygerberg, dressed as cartoon characters, present to these children a day filled with fun and laughter that they will not easily forget. We also present them with the message of salvation through live fun-performances that really touches their hearts.

Each child receives an individually wrapped gift; perhaps the only gift they will receive this year, by “father Christmas” that arrives via helicopter or fire truck. On this day every child is special and no expense is spared to create a memory that may last a life-time. Teachers testified how children were counting the days to this unique event.

More than 2500 children were “adopted” on this day to the cost of almost R500 000. This day ensures that these children can experience first hand what it means when their Christian community really cares. This is the highlight of the year where we can experience what amazing positive change our partnership with our community can achieve.

Radio Tygerberg recently learnt of a needy group of people being treated for HIV/AIDS at Karl Bremer Hospital. We appealed to our listeners and with their help we were able to visit the patients and hand over special gift bags containing the bare necessities like soap, toothpaste, deodorant and face cloths. Here we could see that when you treat people with dignity, you instill hope for the future.

Radio Tygerberg was recently approached by a group of students from Stellenbosch to partner in an outreach to raise funds for an “Extreme make-over” of an old age home in our area. With the generous support of our listeners and corporate companies, the students raised an enormous amount of more than R30 000 with a cycling marathon in Tyger Valley, one of our popular shopping centres. The senior citizens were then taken away for a day of pampering and spoiling by Radio Tygerberg personnel. When they arrived back the afternoon, they all were in tears when they witnessed the transformation of their care centre.

They got back to the following surprises:

† A new radio in every room to listen to 104FM.† A new fan in every room to alleviate the heat.† A tea garden with water features to relax with.† M-Net for the lonely weekends.† A new “Jukskei baan” to participate in sport.† Paint for the outside of the building.

Here we could see first hand how our partnership with our community can touch lives in a wonderful way.

Meet Kata Byleveld. She is a 4-year old cancer sufferer who came to visit us recently at Radio Tygerberg.

It was her wish to visit Radio Tygerberg and to sing on radio. Thanks to an anonymous contributor we could make her wish come true.

With various actions, Radio Tygerberg help raised funds for little Kata and once again our listeners chipped in and we could hand over R20 000 towards her medical treatment.

The ‘Living Ball’ organisation is made up of former and current sport stars in the South African sport community who evangelize by means of handing out rugby, soccer and netballs that are printed with core verses from the Bible. In a fun way, children not only enjoy socializing with their sport heroes, but receive the Gospel of Salvation at the same time. We formed a partnership where we contribute financially and supply them with a vehicle that enables them to reach out to the community. We also create opportunities where they can share their message with their fans. This unique sports ministry is touching lives in a truly miraculous way.

The vision of Radio Tygerberg is simple. We want to bring the message of Salvation to ALL the inhabitants of the Western-Cape. We do that by means of radio but we also have a counseling department of two permanent qualified counsellors and more than 150 trained volunteers that is available everyday until late at night. This service is free.

This team of volunteers also handled the counselling during major events like Michael W Smith, Gospel Skouspel and “Tik to the Cross”. During 2007 a total of 13 293 telephone counselings and 13 983 prayer requests were handled. A total of 1 117 visitors were treated. Thousands of lives were touched during our major events where 407 people gave their lives to Christ at the “Gospel Skouspel” alone. A total of 20 000 “Step by Step” booklets were handed out free of charge. This is voluntary teamwork at its best! We praise God for people like this who is willing to sacrifice a lot of spare time with the sole purpose as to make a difference in people’s lives.

Radio Tygerberg experienced an amazing amount of success in 2007. This can only be attributed to the wonderful grace of God and the team that joined forces and passionately did their best to share our Vision to touch lives on a daily basis. In Isaiah 6:8 God said: “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said," Here am I. Send me!”No success would have been possible were it not for the dedication and commitment of hundreds of volunteers who really gave it their all to ensure that all our goals have been met. This was a partnership made in Heaven and only time will tell what the real long term effect on lives would be.We can only say thank you to all these men and woman who said, “Yes, send me!”
