NUGROUP rail solutions is geared towards providing a holistic service to the rail construction sector. We specialize in the provision of welding teams, tie gangs, labour support, specialist hi-rail vehicles and more recently, Construction Management. At present we are engaged in the supply, construction and maintenance of railway assets throughout Victoria, Tasmania and Sydney.

NUGROUP commenced trading in 2010, originally providing security for rail projects. The company developed an interest in rail construction and moved into labour hire shortly afterwards, including AT welders by 2013. Our passion for the industry helped to attract key personnel from all disciplines and moved us into whole projects.

Today we have expertise in all aspects of single discipline rail construction. Our approach to project delivery is to offer highly experienced management, a skilled workforce and innovative solutions to ensure that output quality is guaranteed.

OUR BUSINESS

We always strive to develop strong collaborative relationships with our clients to ensure the desired outcomes are achieved and the day to day work is effectively managed. We have historically carved a niche with labour and Aluminothermic welding crews but this is rapidly changing as our partnerships and overall stake in the market grows.

A loyal and well-trained workforce has helped our business move forward and stand up strong against the competition. It has also helped to reduce employee turnover which means less lost productivity spent retraining new, inexperienced staff.

• Track Access/Rail Safety Cards

• Certificate 2 & 3 in Rail Infrastructure

• Current Category 1, 2 or 3 Rail Medical Examination

• Laboratory Drug and Alcohol screening

• Specialist roles to hold current requisite tickets

The greatest asset of a company should be its people.

At present, we have 400+ certified rail employees. We are diligent in ensuring that they hold the minimum qualifications for their position. It is company policy to only deploy experienced personnel and we provide strict mentoring for those who have proven themselves worthy of a start in the rail sector.

To maintain our capability, we recognise that skilled labour and rail construction personnel require investment, leadership and commitment to continually improve and respond to our customer’s needs.

We take the training, wellbeing and management of our workforce seriously as this is a reflection on us and our ability to provide project teams in part or whole. Our teams are led by professional supervisors who bring their passion and extensive rail & safety experience to everything we do.

We support our staff with industry recognized training and broaden their knowledge with our ‘in house’ mentoring programs. The diversity of our employees is embraced at Nugroup and we are dedicated to providing all of our employees a safe working environment.

SPECIALIST TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS:PWAY technical solutions offer effective asset management analysis, in relation to Lateral Stability Management. Proven techniques mitigate against broken rail and track buckling ensuring continuous network operation.

Significant improvements have been realised on dilapidated networks in Melbourne and other regions.

DIFFERENTIATORSPWAY’s combined experience and track analysis systems work cohesively together to produce a unique service. Using algorithms and combining areas of probability for lateral accelerations and trigger points to prevent and accurately predict stress and poor geometry that cause lateral related track issues.

CURRENT ALUMINOTHERMIC WELDING PROJECTS

ARC WELDING PROJECTS

The principal welding supplier in Australia, both in terms of welding personnel and spe-cialist equipment and resources. As an indication - 35+ teams, 40 vehicles - 22 of which are Hi-rail gauge convertible. The most significant factor to the expansion of NUGROUP is our weld capability.

WELDING

Our welders are certified nationally and for all track variables such as crane, groove rail, heavy rail. In addition, they are certified to conduct welds on the track of all rail asset owners. Procurement becomes seamless as certification can, and more often is, provided in advance to avoid any delays to the project.

Our welding crews are currently working Australia wide from Northern Territories to Tasmania.

To safeguard our standards, we conduct internal and external weld audits on a regular basis, also carry out random drug and alcohol testing.

SAFETY CULTURESAFETY COMMITMENTAt Nugroup we are 100% committed to ensuring the highest level of safety of our people, clients and sub contractors. This can only be achieved by working together with our employees, stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to keep everyone NUSAFE not UNSAFE.

We have operated an excess of 300,000 hours with zero LTI’s however we show no complacency. Zero injuries can only be achieved by setting the highest standards for ourselves and making safety a personal commitment.

All employees share the belief that health and safety is a critical aspect of their job and that the prevention of non-work injuries is their highest priority. We work to identify fatal risks and establish Zero injuries design, management and behavioral protocols to eliminate them.

Our aim is to develop a culture of trust and encourage our people to be open; we need informed conversations about safety. A continuous effort is put into maintaining this excellent safety performance, with a high emphasis placed on staff training, competence and assessment.

Collaboratively we aim to create innovative ways in which we can consult our people and create a positive attitude towards safety and empowerment to challenge unsafe behaviour in others.

Nugroup conduct site specific risk assessments before placement of our staff to confirm all safety procedures are in place and being adhered to.

Our OH&S representatives conduct audits with little or no forewarning to our employees whilst deployed to ensure all safety procedures are being followed daily.

ARTC: (NSW) IRJ removal program 86 IRJ’s with punch tensors and full re-stresses. Workforce required to complete 172 welds, 1x supervisor, 2x 2man welding teams, 4x laborers, 1x crane truck and operator, 1x Backhoe and operator, 1x PO2.

ARTC: (NSW) Speno Defect removal program package1 32 defects. Closure installation and punch tensors (steel in steel out method). Workforce required to complete package in time frame: 1x supervisor, 2x 3man welding teams, 1x crane truck and operator, 1x Backhoe and operator, 1x PO2. Project completed in 9 shifts. First 2 shifts were cutting rail to correct size and relocating them to site for installation. The next 6 shifts were welding all closure rails. The 9th shift was cleaning up, mobilize defect rails back to client’s depot and complete final grinding to P1 spec’s.

ARTC: (NSW) Speno Defect removal and Minor re-railing program package2. Closure installation, punch tensing and free welding.

Workforce required to complete scheduled works on time: 1x supervisor, 2x 3man welding teams, 1x crane truck and operator, 1x Backhoe and operator, 1x PO2. Project completed in 9 shifts. First 2 shifts rail cut to correct size and relocated to site ready for installation. Next 5 shifts were welding. The 9th shift was to complete all the final grinding to P1 specs and clean up all defect rails cut out.

HUNTER VALLEY: (NSW) Road crossing upgrade. Changed all existing sleepers and rail, installed 2x IRJ’s done 6 free welds and 4 re-stresses. New capping and foundation, new ballast and new rail.

PROJECT MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION

PROJECTS

METRO (VIC) RFD Program night works. Program consists of 2x 2man welding teams, 1 supervisor, 12x Track laborers, 4x LVL2 protection officers, 1xLVL3 co- coordinator, and 1x hi-rail excavator with trolley, 1x Flatbed closure truck/tool truck. Track time is approximately 2-2.5 hours at max each night. Welding team’s minimum 2 free welds and 1 rail adjustment.

SYDNEY LIGHT RAIL: (NSW) All rail works for the Project. Supply of rail labour and welding crews to carry out the track work. Prepare, lay and install (weld, grind, test) the track. We are last in the chain for process, the civils carried out all the excavation and concrete pouring and Acciona are the project managers running the whole planning and execution of the project.

A company can only be as successful as those it employs and Nugroup takes pride in its workforce. We are always on the lookout for people with relevant skills and who possess an enthusiastic work ethic. The requirement for experienced personnel within the rail construction industry is growing tremendously and this looks set to continue with many projects on the horizon.

At this present time, we are particularly interested in hiring Aluminothermic welders and hearing from those who have recently completed the Aluminothermic welding course. We can offer opportunities to gain experience under our highly supervised weld teams.
