The new Prysmian cable jointing system can be used to connect enhanced 2 core cables with either copper or aluminium conductors. A further development in the jointing system can be used to connect the enhanced 2 core cables to legacy 3 and 4 core cables on the network. The announcement comes as the industry continues to crack down on theft of copper cable and components on the nations’ railways. “We are really excited to be involved in a project that will ultimately benefit a huge number of people throughout the supply chain in the rail industry,” says Phil Kenney, Sales Manager for Rail at Prysmian UK. “In the last twelve months, there have been 1.73 billion rail passenger journeys 1 . If Prysmian, alongside the major operators it works with, can improve the reliability and safety of these journeys by the slightest of margins then it’s going to have a huge resonating effect. “Recently we have launched a range of products that support this move to aluminium- based technologies, such as our MRPJ-U Enhanced Resin Joint Kits. these and other technologies, such as our harness solutions for fire performance tunnel lighting and power system, at the upcoming Railtex exhibition at the NEC in May.” However, the company is not looking to use the exhibition purely as a platform to talk of new product development. “Railtex is a prime opportunity for us to connect directly to our target audience.
