Rain Harvesting

After Antarctica, Australia is the driest continent on earth. Half of the country receives less than 300mm of rainfall per year and our rainfall patterns are highly variable. Since 1862 major droughts have occurred in 82 of 150 years.

Rainwater is the main source of water for approximately 1.2 million rural and regional Australian households who do not have access to mains water. Another 1.1 million homes use rainwater as an alternative to mains water because they want to reduce their water bills, they want a backup supply so they are not constrained by water use restrictions, they want to contribute to healthy waterways or they prefer rainwater over mains water.

Rain Harvesting is a manufacturer and wholesaler of rainwater system products which maximise rainwater quality and rainwater harvest yield whilst minimizing operational effort.

Rainwater Harvesting involves the collection, storage and distribution of rainwater from the roof, for use inside and outside the home or business.

How to Create the Complete Rain Harvesting System

Check ROOF SURFACE is suitable for collecting quality rainwater.

Install GUTTER GUARD (such as Blue Mountain Mesh®) to prevent leaves and debris from blocking gutters.

Fit GUTTER OUTLETS from the underside of the gutter to prevent obstruction of water flow.

Fit Leaf Eater® or Leaf Beater® RAIN HEADS to downpipes to prevent blocking. Rain Heads deflect leaves and debris and keep mosquitoes out of pipes that hold water (‘wet’ systems).

Install FIRST FLUSH DIVERTER/S to help prevent the most contaminated rainwater from entering the tank.

Ensure a TANK SCREEN is installed at tank entry point to keep mosquitoes and pests out.

Choose a WATER TANK. Consider annual rainfall, roof catchment area and water usage when determining its size.

Attach INSECT PROOF SCREENS or FLAP VALVES to the end of all pipes to the tank screen to keep mosquitoes and pests out and ensure the tank is vented properly. Install an AIR GAP to TANK OVERFLOW OUTLETS to prevent stormwater backflow into your tank.

Utilise a TANK TOP UP system (if required) to automatically top up the tank with mains water when levels fall to a designated minimum level.

Select a PUMP SYSTEM (if required) to distribute water for use inside or outside the home.

RAINWATER FILTER. Fit a purpose designed rainwater filter after the pump to help reduce residual sedi-ment, colour and odour.

WATER LEVEL INDICATOR. Install a Tank Gauge water level indicator to your rainwater tank to monitor your water level and usage.

How Blue Mountain Mesh worksOur over-the-gutter system formsa physical barrier to prevent leaves and debris from entering gutters.

The ski-slope design ensures leaves and debris are blown off the roof whilst water is drawn through the mesh guard into the gutter.
