Agenda
• What Raiser’s Edge NXT is
• Briefly, in Bill’s wording
• Why I think we should be excited about it
• How to get ready to move to it
• How to move to it
• How to get the software and your users
ready for it
FYI
• Emphasis is on moving to it, but perhaps
helpful for those already on it
• Similar content to my NXT Roadshow
presentations, though updated
• We’ll move quickly, I don’t leave until
Saturday and I do reply to emails and
phone calls
What Raiser’s Edge NXT Is
What Raiser’s Edge NXT Is
• It includes the next generation of The Raiser’s Edge
• Simple, beautiful, modern interface
• Easier
• More powerful and functional
• It’s not just a new “overlay”
• But it’s also much more than “just” RE, it’s a package
of RE and Blackbaud software and services
• It’s cloud-based, SaaS
• Access, backups, upgrades, secure, no IT time or server
• Any time, anywhere, any device
• Unlimited users
Re: How often do you use your RE Backup? in
Raiser's Edge 7 Forums General DiscussionsPosted on October 22, 2015 at 5:45 PM
We backup the RE database every 12 hours and run the system maintenance nightly. We backup the server
upon which RE runs every night. The database files reside on a RAID 5 array (three or more drives) so a single
drive failure will not cause a work stoppage. The backup files are copied to a separate network drive for
redundancy. The backups are then moved offsite. We keep the backup files on the server for 10 days,
externally for 60 days and offsite for 6 months.
The real question is: How much work (transactions) are you willing to loose? A whole day worth of work? A few
hours? This would depend upon your workload and the number of transactions (entries) your enter into RE.
We backup our website databases every 15 minutes (as an example).
We've been using RE since its flagship windows product (I think it was 6.1). I promise you that backups have
been our salvation many times because of hardware failures, Microsoft updates, and a whole host of factors
external to Raiser's Edge.
Manual updates should be performed ALWAYS before any RE upgrade (like the 7.95 version to be released late
November).
SQL databases like constant maintenance! Failure to do so regularly will cause your performance to become
slower that drool.
See the whole thread…
What Raiser’s Edge NXT Is
• It’s role-based
• It’s prescriptive
• It’s a more integrated Blackbaud experience
• Website login, customer support, access to other Blackbaud products, training, community
• It’s a new paradigm of software release
• RE NXT is released and being used,
• While it’s still being built,
• And while we continue to use RE 7, the “database view”
• There’s no conversion
• Implications now and for later
• Open, free, web-based, REST API

1. Role focus, starting with fundraisers!
Moving to It
WHAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON
• Spread the word
• Consider Blackbaud hosting
• Talk with your account executive about the best package for your organization
WHAT YOU DON’T NEEDTO WORRY ABOUT
• Should I delete constituent records?
• What about getting the data ready?
• How much work is the implementation?
GETTING READY FOR NXT
SHARE THE ENTHUSIASM!
Pick the 3 things you
and your team are
most excited about!
READY TO GO TO
BLACKBAUD HOSTING?
THIS DOES APPLY TO
• Financial Edge integrations
• Omatic products
• Any work directly off the backend SQL Server tables
THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO
• Crystal Reports – fully supported
• Exporting and importing – fully supported
• Printing – fully supported
• Blackbaud online integrations – fully supported
If you’re already on Blackbaud hosting, you’re all set!*
Reach out to your account executive with specific questions
Do you have any integrations or processes that might have issues with hosting?

SELECT YOUR NXT
PACKAGE
NXT comes with significantly more than Raiser’s Edge 7 maintenance
• Hosting
• Unlimited users
• More modules
• Online Express
• Data enrichment services and analytics
• NXT
Compare what you’re paying now
For example:
• Blackbaud hosting, Blackbaud analytics, Blackbaud data enrichment services, Blackbaud online tools
• Replaces Wealth Engine, Constant Contact, Network for Good, etc.
• No Server or related expenses needed
REMEMBER. THIS REPLACES YOUR MAINTENANCE, NOT IN ADDITION TO IT
PROBABLY NO
Let’s not replace one bad habit for another
Caution: There’s much more to a record than just gift history
Don’t just delete inactive records
Instead:
Run the Duplicate Report
Do the results there justify any must-do-first work?
(Remember, the count is of possible duplicates, not necessarily actual duplicates.
There are usually more not-duplicates than duplicates.)
SHOULD I DELETE
CONSTITUENTS?
Does the number of records you might possibly find justify the effort and risk?
Analysis of a database with 160,000 records:
49,586 records with no hard credit gift activity
• 45,099 of those have no actions
• 44,804 of those have no linked event record
• 44,500 of those have no volunteer assignment
• 21,002 of those have no volunteer time sheet (which means that 23,498 of these folks do have a volunteer time sheet)
• 20,999 have no proposal
• 17,559 have no individual relationships
• 6,735 have no org relationships
• 5,365 have no soft credit gifts
• 3,437 have no notes

whitepaper on this topic
DELETING
RECORDS?
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET THE DATABASE READY?
• Fundraisers (Solicitors) who will want to use the Work Center function of NXT: link constituent records to user accounts.
• If you’ve not yet gone to 7.94/7.95, grab screenshots of your pivot reports.
• If you’re on EE, see KB article 96538.

MOVING TO HOSTING
There might be some slight re-work of certain things now that you’re in the
hosting environment, but these are usually quick and simple. For example:
• Move Crystal Reports and re-set report parameters
• Set up User Options
• If you had not yet moved to 7.94/7.95, be sure you prepare BOTH the
database and the users for the changes that presents
• See the plug-in(s) referenced earlier
• See the upgrade guide
IMPLEMENTATION
NXT WEB VIEW SETUP: Action Statuses
IMPLEMENTATION
NXT WEB VIEW SETUP: Prospect Statuses
IMPLEMENTATION
NXT WEB VIEW SETUP: Security Groups
IMPLEMENTATION
May require refining your RE security groups (hint: Save As)
NXT WEB VIEW SETUP: Users
• Google accounts or email?
• 10 seconds per user to invite to NXT
IMPLEMENTATION
NXT WEB VIEW SETUP: Users
• Tell users invitation email is coming so they know it’s legitimate and respond
• Host an introduction and trainings with them, several short ones, additional brown-bag lunches
• Database and NXT web views, status of NXT
• Technology
• Work Center
• Lists: opening, creating and saving
• Portfolios
• Tags, including definitions
• Searching
• Constituents
• Tiles
• Renamed items
• Adding and editing actions, notes and proposals
• Ratings
• Prospect statuses
• Attachments
• Reminder of browser capabilities
UH, THEN…THAT’S IT!
• No software to install for NXT Web View users
IMPLEMENTATION
OVER TIME, AFTER YOU’RE IN NXT…
• Clean up solicitor assignments and portfolios
• Set up solicitor goals
• Clean up code tables that NXT web view users will be using most (e.g.,
Action and Note Types)
• Clean up policies and procedures regarding Solicitors, Actions, Notes and
Proposals
• But… these are things we all “should” be doing anyway and being in NXT
will help you get the buy-in from your users to make real progress on
these things because they will care!
OVER TIME, AFTER YOU’RE IN NXT…
• Begin to think about things differently; for example:
• Exports, reports, custom reports, queries… and the Work Center and Lists
• Action reminders
• Be sure to join the Blackbaud Support Community and the RE NXT
community to monitor continuing additions
• You don’t even have to do any of this to get the NXT subscription
benefits on Raiser’s Edge 7 now.
IT’S REALLY EASY:
1. Present the new features and benefits to your team
2. Consider Hosting
3. Work with your account executive to get the right package
THAT’S IT! YOU CAN MOVE TO NXT.
