Constituency Boundary Review changesthe proposals forAshton upon MerseySuccess for councillors campaign

The first proposals of the BoundaryCommission for Englands (BCE) review ofParliamentary Constituencies moved Ashtonupon Mersey Ward into the Stretford andUrmston Constituency, splitting it from all oft h e o t h e r S a l e a r e a W a r d scompletely. Following the campaign to get theWard put back into the Altrincham & Sale WestConstituency, the latest version of the BoundaryReview has done just that. The Ashtoncouncillors, John Lamb, Brian Rigby and MikeWhetton all submitted representations as didlocal Conservative members and many local residentswhich the Boundary Commission has nowheeded. Ashton upon Mersey Ward is now in arevised Altrincham and Sale West Constituency alongwith Bucklow St Martins Ward.Independent analysis of the national and regionalproposals suggests that the latest scheme is goodnews for the Conservative Party, improving thenumber of seats which theoretically would elect aConservative MP.These latest proposals are now open for consultationwith a deadline of 10th December for anysubmissions.Experts say that these latest proposals are unlikely tobe altered very much now they may swap a wardhere or there, or change a constituency name. Anysuggestions for more substantial changes toboundaries would have to be very credible proposalsindeed.Following this next consultation, the BCEs finalreport goes (ironically) to the Deputy Prime Ministerby October 2013 and he must put the proposals toParliament. It is believed that even if they are thenvoted down, as has been suggested, they will formthe basis of a review after 2015.

It is important now for people in favour of Ashtonupon Mersey being within the Altrincham and SaleWest Constituency to submit comments agreeingwith these latest proposals and, where appropriate,to thank the BCE for taking notice of the previouscomments. This can be done before 10th Decemberusing the following means:
