This landmark civil rights act went into effect in 1992. It is a significant step forward to make our society’s services and opportunities fully available to all Americans by combating barriers and prejudices that confront those of us with disabilities. RARA is committed to implementing the intent and spirit of this legislation. Those who may need assistance in order to participate and enjoy our programs should contact our staff at least two weeks in advance of registration to discuss any necessary accommodations or concerns. Persons with disabilities are invited to participate in all programs offered through RARA, We hope that with our assistance , you will be able to create lifelong memories in our community.

RARA SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

The RARA School for Performing Arts pro-gram offers a wide variety of dance classes (preschool, tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip hop, and contemporary) for children and adults beginning at 2 ½ years of age. We teach these classes in terms. Our RECITAL TERM begins each September when we enroll stu-dents for the two semester program, ending with the “grand finale” – our recitals in June presented at a local high school. Some dancers enjoy non-recital classes taught in 8-16 week terms throughout the year, FALL, WINTER/SPRING AND SUMMER. The SUMMER TERM, provides students the op-portunity to strengthen skills or sample new classes in a short 8 week session and begins each June. Annual auditions are held each May for our COMPETITION and ENSEMBLE classes. LOCATION: Dance classes are taught at our Dance Center located at 500 East Sec-ond Street, downtown Rochester. The center features four classrooms, parent waiting area, canteen, and ample parking. Each stu-dio classroom has an observation monitor. INSTRUCTORS: Our dance teachers are trained, mature, and sensitive to the needs of both children and adults. They teach to de-velop technique and self-confidence, not stress, enhancing body image, strength, and agility through dance. Above all, the enjoy-ment of the performing arts is foremost.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Good attendance is imperative, as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class. Please make every effort to have students at each class. DRESS CODE POLICY: Dancewear is worn for all classes. Students cannot dance in street clothes. No loose fitting clothing or excessive jewelry, please. Hair must be worn off the neck, out of eyes and must be secured before class. Detailed dancewear and shoe requirement information is availa-ble on the our web-site:www.rararecreation.org MAKE-UP POLICY: There are no make-up or refund opportunities for students who miss class due to illness, travel, family situations, etc. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather conditions will be made up if possi-ble.

It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend himself against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique — most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or as self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as ‘rolling’) and live drilling play a major role in training and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition. Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba often referred to by his title ‘O Sensei’ or ‘Great Teacher’. On a purely physical level it is an art involving throws, joint locks and other techniques that are derived from Jujitsu and throws derived from Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement. In Japan, a nation of many martial arts, Aikido is the one chosen for instruction to the elite Tokyo Metropolitan Riot Police and Secret Police. Location: Michigan Aikido Academy 933 E.
