VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Rational number
Definition: any number that can be written as a fraction
Examples:
5, -16, 4.25, 2½
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Integer
Definition: any number from the set{…-4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4…}
where … means continues without end
Examples:all whole numbers, both positive and
negative, and zero
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Positive integer
Definition: a whole number greater than zero
Examples:1, 2, 3, 4…
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Negative integer
Definition: a whole number less than zero, written with a
- sign
Examples:-1, -2, -3, -4…
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Non- integers
Definition: positive and negative numbers that are not whole
numbers
Examples:-1 ½ , -2.25, 3.1333333…, π
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Absolute value
Definition: the distance between a number and zero
on a number line
Examples:The absolute value of 4 is 4
written as |4| = 4
VOCABULARY ACTIVITY
Opposites
Definition: numbers that are the same distance from zero
on a number line, but on opposite sides of zero.
The sum of a number and its opposite is zero.
Examples:3 and -3 are opposites
