Year 3 Objectives

Reading

Know the letter names and sounds of the alphabet.

Use knowledge of alphabet to locate information in dictionaries.

Know whether the text read is present or past tense.

Select appropriate words in cloze procedures.

Writing – Composition, Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation

These are the targets for Year 3 at the front of the English Books. These are used to set targets (when appropriate) at the

beginning of each Talk for Writing unit. The target sheets are regularly reviewed - ticked and dated when the targets are

achieved.

T1 I can write a sentence which has a subject and a verb.

T2 I can punctuate sentences with capital letters and full stops.

T3 I can write compound sentences using ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘so’ to join clauses together.

T4 I can use question marks and exclamation marks when needed.

T5 I remember to write commas in a list.

T6 I can choose interesting adjectives to describe people, places and objects.

T7 I use capitals for names people and places.

T8 I can use pronouns where appropriate to make my writing clear and avoid repetition (he, she, they, it).
