These past two weeks most certainly highlighted the value and importance of local groups supporting and Doing Good in Our Community’. Reflecting on the RI October theme: Economic and Community Development highlights the importance of such community organizations. With the Food Van Fiesta some way off and planning well underway, as mentioned last week, we need to focus on preparations for the Dinner Auction and following John B’s directions. We look forward to the Welsh Choir visit this weekend and no doubt Philippa and Janet’s hard work will be well rewarded. I must commend our Youth InSearch members – Bernie, Debbie, Carl and Terrie for their work in preparing for the up-coming Gala Event. Although it is not a RCMR project, we do support the initiative and its fundraising drive. During this past week I was approached with a request for the Club to stage the New Year’s Eve Fireworks ‘show’ in Paynesville. This would be a demanding project to take on and as per my email to you all, I welcome your comments regarding the Club’s wish to take it on or, to consider doing so as part of a partnership with other community groups. It was with regret that we received Sally’s resignation from the Club during the week. I understand her decision to take this step and put on record our appreciation for the work she has done within the Club … most particularly in the area of social media and as Secretary. OCTOBERTHEME:Economic&CommunityDevelopmentThe Rotary theme for the month of October is Economic and Community Development. Despite what the political rhetoric might suggest, we know that we are privileged to live in one of the wealthiest and most economically prosperous countries in the world. We should also be very aware, however, of two realities. First, since our world has become such an interconnected global community, the economic conditions facing less developed countries should be a humanitarian concern not only for Rotarians, but for all people. Secondly, we don’t have to look beyond the borders of our country, state, or our own communities in order to see the effects of economic hardship.
