Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: St Omer French trip 19-26 September, 2016 We are excited to be proposing a French language trip to St Omer in September to support our French curriculum; to improve confidence in speaking French and to enhance language learning experiences within the school. The key details about the planned trip:

5 days and 4 nights

Departs on Monday 19 and returns on Friday 23 September 2016

The purpose of the trip is for the pupils to gain confidence in spoken French and a greater understanding of French culture

The all-inclusive price of the trip is £410

The price includes:

Return executive coach travel and return channel crossings

Full board accommodation at Le Chateau d’Ebblinghem

All visits, outings and a language enrichment experience at the Chateau

Group travel insurance

NST (travel company) 24hr emergency contact service during the trip There will be 40 pupil places available and 5 members of staff will accompany the trip to fulfil a ratio of 1:8. To secure a place for your child, a non-refundable deposit of £40.00 is required along with the completed permission slip by Weds 20 January. This deposit is non-refundable once we have confirmed the pupil’s place on the trip. (However, insurance will cover unavoidable trip cancellations.) The total cost of the trip is £410. Regular payments for the trip will be made through ParentPay. The following payments will then be required by the following dates - £80 by 20 March, £80 by 18 April, £70 by 9 May, £70 by 6 June and £70 by 4 July. In addition to the tour cost, we recommend that your child has some spending money for the trip, the exact amount to be discussed nearer the time. They will also require a valid EU passport and an EHIC card which will be collected in and kept in the school safe during the week prior to departure. Our exact itinerary is yet to be confirmed but the Language enrichment experience is likely to include French breakfasts, making crêpes, shopping at a local supermarket, a town trail and visiting a local sweet factory or a cheese farm. Evening activities will probably include quizzes, team challenges, talent show and a disco. We would very much like this visit to take place. However, the visit is an “optional extra” under the 1996 Education Act and the school is allowed to make a charge in full. If there are not sufficient pupils to make the trip viable, then the trip will be cancelled and a full refund will be given. We must make it very clear that no funds whatsoever exist for this activity. However, parents of children who are in receipt of free school meals are entitled to ‘Opportunity Funding’ to cover the cost of the trip. Please contact the school office for an application form, which should be completed and submitted before the deadline stated above

If the trip is over-subscribed, priority will be given to students who have demonstrated positive behaviour and have good attendance records and these names will be picked at random. Those who are unfortunate and are not selected for the trip will receive a full refund. During the visit, there will be a limited amount of free time. Pupils will be expected to follow the instructions issued by staff regarding guidelines on how they spend the free time. The trip is being booked through NST Travel, the UK's leading educational travel company, for schools, with more than 45 years’ experience. They work closely with us during the whole tour planning process to ensure that your child will get the very best learning experience whilst away.
