Regular Activities

NSS has been in operation in our college since 1965. Since then it has been involved in various social service activities including blood donation, plantation drive, gender empowerment, national integration with social harmony, disaster management, environment protection and awareness, engaging with new frontiers of knowledge, social defense, health and well-being, legal literacy, awareness building about India’s national heritage, culture and traditions, road safety campaigns, etc. NSS functions as a learning and resource centre for the benefit of the youth. Activities under Special NSS Camp

DAY 1: 09th Jan 2019, Wednesday

The day started with a lot of enthusiasm, a spirit of team work and a sense of

responsibility towards the society. Everyone was eager to touch the soil of Akoli. From

the heart of the city to hot spot of everyone’s interest Akoli as a journey filled with

enthusiasm and overwhelming zeal. We started from Jankidevi Bajaj College of Science,

Wardha around 10:00 am and reached the destination at 12.30 p.m.

Departure to Akoli Village

The Akoli Village which is situated near to Jamni Sugar Mill has the population

around 4000. Taking the first step into the village, the NSS volunteers were filled with a

gleaming sense of responsibility. Initially, everyone was assigned the work of setting up

the centre stage of all the activities to be all the seven days. Five groups were created by

giving the names of great personalities of India as Shri. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sant

Gadge Maharaj, Smt. Savitribai Fule, Swami Vivekanand & Rastrasant Tukadoji Maharaj

respectively.

After the cleanliness drive at camp site, the stage was decorated for inaugural

function. The Chief Guest for inaugural function was Shri. Vinod Khobragade,

Information & educational officer, ZP Wardha, Dr. V. V. Shinde, officiating Principal J. B.

College of Science, Wardha, Shri. Rajendra Somankar, Headmaster ZP primary school,

akoli. The function was presided by smt. Pushpatai Khairkar, Sarpanch Akoli. The

programme was hosted by the NSS volunteers and total 75 volunteers & Villagers were

present at the time of function.

DAY 2: 10th Jan 2019, Thursday

Second day begun with ‘Yogasana’ and inspiring NSS song & prayer sung by the

NSS Volunteers. After the completion of morning routine of Yogasan, team was sent for

the Survey in Village. Everyone was eager to interact with villagers to know about the

percentage of literacy in the village. Villagers were enlighten for the importance of

hygiene and asked to keep their village neat and clean. NSS volunteers spread the

awareness of the importance of toilets for health.

By survey, it was observed that many people of Akoli were well aware about the

importance of toilets for health and around 95% families found to possess their own

toilets. 5% families who were lacking this facility were started to build the toilets.

Afternoon session was very special as it was skill oriented much needed workshop on ‘Herbs & Herbal Products’. Training session was hosted by NSS volunteers who gave the training to ‘Women's Savings Group’.

In evening, a special talk by Shri. Pankaj Wanjare on topic ‘Jadutona Virodhi

Kayda’ enthralled every one. Speaker could successfully open the eyes on Laws & Acts

against superstition with his practical demonstration.

DAY 3: 11th Jan 2019, Thursday

Third day begun with same routine with ‘Yogasana’ followed by NSS prayer. Now it’s time for get-up-and-go for the ‘Shrama Daan’ and the task was to clean the entire village. Work started with lot of enthusiasm and courage.

DAY 3: 12th Jan 2019, Saturday

The 12th January is the birth anniversary of “Swami Vivekananda‟ and “Rajmata

Jijau‟ and we started the day with their remembrance during Yogasana session and NSS

prayer.

After the breakfast we were ready to welcome the team of Doctors & volunteers

of Eye check-up camp from Vision group. It was two days camp started with registration

of villagers as well as NSS volunteers.

In evening, a special talk with sky observation by Dr. Sudhir Tiple on topic ‘Astronomy: Knowledge and Ignorance’ was organized. It was really motivational and informative talk by the speaker.

DAY 5: 13th Jan 2019, Sunday

After the refreshing yoga. We organized Health Check-up Camp for Villagers. For

that a team of doctors from Shri Satyasai group, Wardha came to the village and

attended the villagers by giving good time to them.

In the afternoon session we continued our eye check-up camp. It was overwhelming

response from villagers. About 250 villagers checked by doctors with complete

satisfaction. After one month we distributed specs of villagers by the hand of our

Principal Dr. O. A. Mahodaya.

In the evening, a special programme LOKNRUTYA-LOKNATYA organized by our

NSS volunteers on social awareness programme.

Loknrutya & Loknatya

DAY 6: 14th Jan 2019, Monday

The day before the concluding day, after refreshing yoga, team was ready to

show their talent by street play. With full of energy NSS team performed street plays on

theme ‘Cleanliness Drive’ and ‘Antisuperstition Drive’ at various places in Village.

Interesting thing was the active participation of Villagers in Street Play. With street play

NSS team also run the cleanliness drive by cleaning the village.

Performance of street plays on theme ‘Cleanliness Drive’ and ‘Antisuperstition

This evening was altogether different with the smell of culture as this evening

was dedicated to bring out joy, entertainment via cultural programme. Volunteers were

very eager to perform and to show their talent in front of the villagers. ZP primary

school children were also the part of the programme who performed songs and lift the

event with their dance numbers.

Cultural Evening

DAY 7: 15th Jan 2019, Tuesday

On the concluding day of the camp, the Chief Guest Dr. O. A. Mahodaya, Principal J. B.

College of Science, Wardha, Dr. V. V. Shinde, Head department of Electronics, Prof. R. G.

Jadhao, Villagers and NSS Volunteers were present. The function was presided by Shri.

Murleji, President Tanta-Mukti committee, Akoli. The programme was hosted by the NSS

volunteers.

Valedictory function of Special NSS Camp

NSS unit was honored with the Spiritual script ‘Gramgita’ of great social worker Shri.

The villagers were grateful to the NSS volunteers and organizers for providing

awareness about cleanliness, and also urged to hold the NSS camp every year in the

village.

At the end of the camp our NSS unit was honored with the Spiritual script ‘Gramgita’ of

great social worker Shri. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj with the auspicious hands of

Shri. Murle ji, President Tanta-Mukti committee, Akoli.

Acknowledgement

These activities consumed huge amount of work, time and dedication. Still,

implementation would not have been possible if we did not have a support of many

individuals and our organization. Therefore we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to

First of all we are very much thankful to Dr. Dr. Keshav Walke, NSS Coordinator, RTMNU,

Nagpur for his kind support and guidance during whole session. We are grateful to the

Chairman, Shiksha Mandal, Shri. Sanjayji Bhargava for his visit during the camp and for

sharing the pearls of wisdom during his interaction with villagers. We extend our thanks

to Dr. Om Mahodaya, Principal, Jankidevi Bajaj College of Science, Wardha for his sound

mentoring in the successful organization of all the projects during the session. We are

thankful to all teaching and non-teaching staffs of Jankidevi Bajaj College of Science,

Wardha for their kind co-operation and encouragement in all the events during the

session. Last but not the least, we appreciate the efforts of our volunteers who devoted their

time and knowledge in the implementation of all the projects during the session.
