GK ADS Congrats AJAZ PUNJABI on the auspicious day of marriage. Let the couple cherish memorable moments of life together and tread on path of living in unison FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES Authorities sit on violation of official timings by private schools GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Sep 1: In viola- tion of norms, many pri- vate schools in the summer capital are violating official school timings—subjecting students to inconvenience. The DSEK has noti- fied the official tim- ings in schools within municipal limits of Srinagar from 9 am to 3 pm. While outside the city municipal limits, the schools have been directed to function from 10 am to 4 pm. However, in brazen vio- lation of norms, some private schools in the City open the schools early morning—subject - ing students of lower class to inconvenience. DSEK had last month warned of strict action against the educational institutions— if they are found violating school tim- ings notified by it. The parents have also expressed strong resent- ment over failure of the DSEK to implement the school timings. “It is torturous for our kids to wake up early to reach their school at Raj Bagh before 8 am. We wonder why govern- ment is watching as mute spectator to this serious problem,” a rued group of parents. Health experts link early school timings with degrading health and mental ability of the child. “As some schools force parents of students of Nursery, LKG and UKG to ensure their presence in the educational insti- tutions at 7 am or 8 am, it has adverse effects on health of children,” they said. “This puts the kids under immense mental pressure.” “Some kids also resent the early awaking. Subsequently going to schools becomes haunting process for them. The kids of age group between two-five years need good sleep and less pressure. However, the wrong school timings by some private schools ruin the child and also harms their health,” they added. “Besides, most of the schools have kept the same timings for lower primary students and higher class- es. The concentration span of lower primary students is less and thus they should not be kept at schools for more than four hours,” they said. Rose Lane inhabitants demand repair of faulty drain Srinagar, Sep 1: The inhabitants of Rose Lane Colony, Chanapora have demanded restoration of a drain in the locality which has been ren- dered defunct. They said the drain was con- structed by the City Drainage Division of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). “The deep drains have been constructed during last two years at an expenditure of whooping Rs. two crore, without putting in place any engineering expertise or alignment which has resulted in stagnation water in the drains. This has endangered the basic foundation of the households,” they said. According to the inhabitants of the colony, the engineers of the Mechanical wing of the City Drainage Division are blaming the civil engineers for not pro- jecting the requirement of Pump station before execution of the civil works. They saidwithoutitscompletiontheconception of a complete drainage system is futile. The residents of adjoining Garden lane also complained of similar problem. The aggrieved inhabitants of these colo- nies have appealed the Commissioner of SMC, Showkat Ahmad Zargar to order a probe into the matter and direct the concerned officials to take measures for restoration of the drain. Erring traders fined Srinagar, Sep 1: The Enforcement of the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Kashmir on Tuesday conducted market inspections in Srinagar and booked erring traders for violating Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The markets of Shivpora, Bou- levard, Ram Bagh, Natipora, Chana- pora, Bemina, Lal Bazar and Saderabal were inspected during the process. During the inspection, 133 business establishments were inspected and Rs. 33,300 were recovered as fine from 29 erring shopkeepers for violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. South city flood victims decry delay in compensation Srinagar, Sep 1: Resi- dents of various areas of south city have expressed resentment over delay in compensation to them by the government. Delegations from vari- ous areas including Nati- pora, Mehjoor Nagar, Cha- napora, Rambagh Balla, Payeen, Budshah Nagar said despite passing of nearly a year since floods, they are yet to be compen- sated. “We make a fervent appeal to Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue to direct the concerned offi- cials to expedite our com- pensation cases,” they said. Kashmiri Pandits stage demo Seek redressal of demands Srinagar, Sep 1: Non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits on Tuesday staged protest here demand- ing resolution of their demand including proper rehabilitation, employment, financial pack- ages and renovation of temples. The protestors assembled under the banner of Hindu Welfare Society (HWS) at Barbar Shah and took out a rally which culminated at Press Enclave here. The protestors also tried to march towards to Ghanta Ghar, however, they were stopped by police. “Successive regimes have failed to redress our demands. It is ironic that Government always speaks about return of Kashmiri Pandits, but never utters a word for Pandits who didn’t migrate from the Valley,” said Chunni Lal who was lead- ing the protest. Motorists, bikers rewarded for obeying traffic rules Srinagar, Sep 1: In a novel way to encourage safe driv- ing, authorities on Tuesday awarded commendation certificates to motorists and bikers who follow traf- fic rules in the city. The commendation is part of a drive launched by Regional Transport Office Kashmir in collabora- tion with an NGO ‘Life on roads’. During the drive certificates of commenda- tion were awarded to motors and bikers who were found obeying traffic rules. “Usually, we take puni- tive action against those who violate traffic rules, however, we never encour- age people who drive safely.
