Language Arts / Writing - Revising & Editing your Writing
Planning
Good writers think about how they will organize their ideas in a text before
they start writing. This is called planning.
Here are some ways to plan your writing:
Brainstorm: Write down everything that comes to your mind about the topic.
Table: Arrange the ideas in a table in which ideas that are alike and different
are in different boxes.
Story map: Arrange the ideas in three different categories, such as the
beginning, middle, and the end.
Revising
Revising is going over your writing again to look for ways to make it better.
Reading what you have written out loud often helps you find mistakes that
you may have missed.
As you are revising your writing, ask yourself:
Does each sentence make sense?
Where can I use a better, stronger word?
Do any sentences seem out of place?
Editing
Editing is going over your writing again to find and fix any grammatical
mistakes. A good writer follows rules of grammar to share ideas clearly.
