Focus 2.8/9: Wolves (Nonfiction only)

Dear  Families:  This  week  your  Kindergartener  is  learning  about  owls.  Try  at  least  three  of  these  fun  learning  activities,  or  do  them  all!  The  most  important  thing  is  to  enjoy  time  with  your  child  learning  about  what’s  happening  in  the  classroom.  Please  color  in  the  boxes  of  the  activities  you  choose,  and  return  this  to  school  at  the  end  of  the  week.  HAVE  FUN!

Science:  How  Strong?

Collect  any  5  of  the  following:  wax  paper,  plastic  wrap,  tin  foil,  construction  paper,  tissue  paper,  bubble  wrap,  newsprint.  Make  a  chart  with  two  columns,  Easy  to  Rip  and  Hard  to  Rip.  Have  your  child  try  to  rip  or  tear  the  material.  List  each  material  in  the  appropriate  column.

Literacy:  At  the  Library

Go  to  your  local  Boston  Public  Library  and  find  books about  wolves.  Borrow  one,  two,  or  more  books  to read  at  home.

Motor:  Build  a  den

Build  a  den  in  your  house  with household  items  like  sheets  or pillows.  Take  a  photo  of  your  den.

Language:  Wolf  Songs

Make  up  a  song  about  wolves.  You  can  use  a familiar  song  and  change  the  words.  Have  fun  with it!  Be  silly!

Motor:  Pretend  Play

Pretend  that  you  are  a  wolf.  What  noise  would  you  make?  How  would  you  walk?  Where  would  you  sleep?  What  would  you  eat?

Math:  Counting

How  many  members  of  your  family  can  fit  in  the  den you  made?  If  you  did  not  make  a  den,  pick  a  room  in your  house  and  see  how  many  family  members  can fit  inside.  Can  you  draw  a  diagram  of  your  den  or room  and  how  many  people  it  fits?
