2. Installation and configuration issues

================================================================================================================================================

Administrator privileges are required to install Learning Essentials

To install Learning Essentials or push registry key updates on a client computer, administrator privileges are required. If Setup is run without administrator privileges, Setup will fail silently when attempting to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and an error will be logged in the system log on the client computer.

================================================================================================================================================Cancelling Setup may leave earlier versions of Learning Essentials unusable

If you cancel Setup before it is complete, earlier versions of Learning Essentials may be unusable. If this happens, uninstall the earlier version of Learning Essentials. You can then reinstall the earlier version or you can run Setup to install again to install this version.

================================================================================================================================================

Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 is required for Learning Essentials tutorials

Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 or later is required to use the Learning Essentials tutorials. If Flash is not installed on client computers, users will receive an error message when they attempt to access some features.

To download the latest free version of the Macromedia Flash Player, go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/.

If you do not have an Internet connection available, or you are unable to download a version of the player compatible with Windows Vista, there is another option. The Support folder on the installation disk contains installation files for the Flash Player. To install the player, double-click the file named "Install Flash Player 8 AX.exe".

================================================================================================================================================

Operating system language should match language of CDK

The language of the operating system should match the language version of the CDK you are installing. If they do not match then you will see a combination of English and the language used for the CDK.

================================================================================================================================================

Windows Script Host must be enabled when installing the CDK

When installing the CDK component during Setup, you must have Windows Script Host enabled. It can be disabled again when Setup is complete.

================================================================================================================================================

Unable to copy all files to SharePoint document library

SharePoint servers can block certain file types, such as .exe or .chm files, from being uploaded. When you copy Learning Essentials files to a SharePoint document library, you will get an error if the SharePoint server blocks these file types. To change the settings for blocked file types, open SharePoint Central Administration and under Security Configuration, click "Manage blocked file types". Delete the file extensions .exe and .chm from the list.

================================================================================================================================================

Unable to install a content package created with an earlier version of the CDK

This version of Learning Essentials requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, which is automatically installed during Setup. However, content packages created with an earlier version of the CDK require Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. If you get an error message when installing these content packages, go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads to download and install the following redistributable packages:

* Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 * Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1

Note: Multiple versions of the .NET Framework can be installed on a computer.

================================================================================================================================================

Unable to open User Center after installing CDK

Page 4: Readme

Do not install an earlier version of the CDK after installing this version of Learning Essentials. To install the current version of the CDK, run Setup and use the Modify option to add the CDK component.

================================================================================================================================================

Links to add-in content are broken

If add-in content is installed on a client computer, and you change the content location, User Center links for the add-in content may break. To fix this, uninstall the add-in content from the original location and install it in the new content location. If you are sharing content in a central location, open the User Center file in administration mode to incorporate the add-in content, and then push a new User Center file to client computers.

================================================================================================================================================

3. General issues

================================================================================================================================================

Microsoft Office prompts for spelling & grammar tools for foreign languages

If you open Learning Essentials templates that include language tools for German, French, or Spanish, you may be prompted to install the Microsoft Office Proofing Tools for the language. These tools may be available on your Microsoft Office installation disc. If the proofing tools are not installed, some features, such as the spelling check, may not be available.

================================================================================================================================================

Previewing User Center file in CDK closes Learning Essentials User Center

If you open a User Center file in administration mode, be sure to save any changes before using the Preview feature in the CDK User Center form. When you use the Preview feature, the User Center file you have open is closed without warning.

================================================================================================================================================

Learning Essentials menus and toolbars do not display in Office XP

If you do not see the Learning Essentials menus and toolbars in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, security settings in the Office XP program may be set too high.

To modify the security settings for Office XP1. Start the Office program.2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.3. On the Security Level tab, select Medium.4. Click OK.

Note: You need to modify the security settings separately for each Office program.

Security warning for AddinShim.dll is displayed

If you receive a "Security Warning "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Learning Essentials\1.0\AddinShim.dll" contains macros" error, you need to modify the list of trusted publishers. This problem will occur when you start an Office XP program.

To modify the list of trusted publishers for Office XP1. Start the Office program.2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.3. On the Trusted Sources tab, check the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box.4. Click OK.

Note: You need to modify the list of trusted publishers separately for each Office program.

================================================================================================================================================

Learning Essentials does not support Preview or Beta versions of software, such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, or Windows operating system. Learning Essentials supports only released versions of software.
