Built from the ground up to support and exemplify the expectations of the NGSS, the Quests are 6-8 week project based learning activities designed to meet all three dimensions of the NGSS.
Here is an example from Grade 1 for 1-PS4-2. Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects in darkness can be seen only when illuminated.
Ready? Get Set. QUEST!
Plan and conduct investigations collaboratively to produce evidence to answer a question
Simple tests can be designed to gather evidence to support or refute student ideas about causes
Objects can be seen if light is available to illuminate them or if they give off their own light
Take Students on an Online STEMQuestDrive problem-based learning and inquiry with hands-on STEMQuests.
• Problem-based learning
• Modeling to engage students in Science and Engineering Practices (SEP)
• Career and real-world connections
• Group projects that enhance collaborative skills
• Student debates to build communication skills
• NBC Learn Videos—engaging, timely, age appropriate
• Animations, simulations, and virtual labs
• Teacher support throughout
Interactive Science provides support for Problem-Based Learning options at every step of instruction to ensure NGSS support.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSInteractive Science ensures all students combine process and knowledge as they use reasoning and critical thinking to develop science understanding to succeed on the NGSS Performance Expectations.

• The Teacher’s Edition and Resource Guide provides a Performance Expectation Activity for each of the Performance Expectations noted in the NGSS. As you can see, each activity will overview the standard, Objective, Procedure, and Evaluation criteria.
• ELA/Literacy activities are also featured to ensure a cross disciplinary connection with communication in oral or written form as an outcome.
• Mathematics will always accompany each of the Performance Expectations to allow students to demonstrate understanding using mathematical exploration.
Each of the Performance Expectations found in the NGSS correlation for Interactive Science are pulled out into stand-alone activities.
Students participate in a variety of Performance Expectation Activities using editable worksheets found on PearsonRealize.com. This allows for local customization to more seamlessly meet your student’s needs. Do you really like the activity you modified? With PearsonRealize.com you can upload this for use next year, or for other teachers to use.

Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI)Throughout Interactive Science lessons address Disciplinary Core Ideas, and the key concepts required to meet the Performance Expectations. In the write-in Student Edition, students are not passively reading and answering questions at the end, but are given opportunities along the way to make meaning about what they are reading by drawing a picture, underlining text, filling in a chart or graphic organizer – using multiple ways to comprehend the big ideas and concepts.
Expect to find, use, and apply the SEPs, CCCs, and DCIs in every chapter and lesson.
REINFORCING theNGSS
THREE DIMENSIONS WORKING AS ONEAs described in the Executive Summary of the NGSS - “Every NGSS standard has three dimensions: disciplinary core ideas (content), scientific and engineering practices, and cross-cutting concepts...the integration of rigorous content and application reflects how science and engineering is practiced in the real world.” Expect to find all three dimensions throughout Interactive Science for each stage of instruction.

Crosscutting Concepts (CCC)These larger themes, which link across grade levels and across disciplines within grade levels, are integrated throughout the program.

Science and Engineering Practices (SEP)Lab activities are integrated at the lesson and chapter level as well as in separate lab support books. Teacher Lab Resource Book, STEM Activity Book, and Scenario-Based Investigations provide opportunities for students to use skills and knowledge simultaneously.
The SEPs describe behaviors scientists engage in and use as they investigate the world around them. Here are two instances in which students will use some of those behaviors - Drawing Conclusions students will learn the skill as both a ready and thinking skill, so they learn it at the beginning of a chapter, and apply it in context. Students will also be Doing the Math to help interpret data and apply it to their lessons.
