Performance Based Assessments
At the end of each module, your child will be completing a Performance Based Assessment. Their teachers are preparing them daily for this culminating task.
Performance Based Assessments: Kindergarten
Choose one animal from “Make Way for Ducklings” or “A House for Hermit Crab”. Then write a story about how the animal chosen its home and why the animal chose to leave it.Remember to:• tell about one event from the story• put the details in order of how the event happened• explain how the animal reacted to the eventYou will share your stories with the class when you arefinished.
Performance Based Assessments: 1st Grade
“How can we be so different and feel so much alike?” mused Flitter.“And how can we feel so different and be so much alike?”
wondered Pip.“I think this is quite a mystery,” Flap chirped.
“I agree,” said Stellaluna. “But we’re friends. And that’s a fact.”Think about the themes and lessons you learned from thecharacters in “Stellaluna” and “Dragons and Giants.” Thenthink about yourself and when you learned the meaning offriendship. Next, write a narrative about a friendship.Remember to:• recount two or more appropriately sequenced events.• include some details about what happened.• use temporal words to signal event order.• provide some sense of closure.Then share your writing with the class orally or by posting your work.
Performance Based Assessments: 2nd Grade
Write a narrative in which you add a scene to “Charlotte’s Web”.Choose a specific line you like from the text and insert yourscene after that line. Focus on one or two characters.Remember to:• draw or describe the characters and setting.• write a short sequence of events with a beginning, middle,and end.• include details to describe the actions, thoughts, and feelingsof the characters.• use signal words to show sequence of events.Then share your writing with the class as part of an AuthorCelebration.
