Background

Our CEO John Carter started investing in real estate in Alberta in 2001. Starting with the purchase of single family homes, he quickly transitioned to the advantages of economies of scale and profitability that multi-family apartment buildings have to offer. He purchased the first building, a 12 suite apartment, while still in his last year of university.

Since that time he has completed several other condo conversion projects, joint ventured investments, and worked with dozens of projects on a consulting basis. It is with this cumulative experience and demand from clients and fellow real estate investors that brought the formation of Parkhurst in 2009. Many wanted to invest alongside with this success.

The legal structure was chosen to protect individual investment partners, and allow for larger groups of like-minded investors to pool their cash resources more easily and profitably. The business model of buying multi-family apartment buildings in select areas and with select characteristics was chosen based on the objective to create an investment that provided the best overall above average market returns to investors, while simultaneously reducing volatility and downside risk.

Consulting Projects

In addition to directly owned projects, John Carter has been hired as a consultant on over a dozen projects for a total of over 150 units. An expert on Edmonton multi-family properties, his expertise was utilized for acquisition, strategy, renovation consultation, marketing, and end unit sales.
