Push factors – conditions that push people away from a country
Pull factors – conditions that attract immigrants to a particular location.
Go over the list we created and identify the reasons as either push factors or pull factors.

Immigration from the U.S. Immigrants were called “late loyalists” as
they came after the American Revolution.

Phase Two – 1815-1850
From the British Isles (Scots, Irish, English) Left due to conditions caused by the
Industrial Revolution

Upper and Lower Canada were no longer just English and French in origin
Large growth of farms, towns, villages due to large population
New political ideas (American Revolution) Hatred of English (by Scots and Irish, whose
countries had been invaded by England) Many different religions: Anglican, Catholic,
