FCPS has installed power and will remove power. Q3. Site Drawings indicate a new bike rack. We cannot find a specification or dimensions. Please forward if we are to include in bid. See revised sheet A2.0 – attached. Q4. Are the proposed picnic tables shown on C.6 by the contractor? If so please provide a specification. Picnic tables are NIC.

Addendum #2 Silverbrook Elementary School Renovation Jan 17, 2019 Page 3 Q5. Plan note #4 on #C-5 indicates contractor is responsible for timber edging, mulch, and underdrain at creative play area. Spec Section 01020 play equipment $125K allowance covers timbers and mulch. Confirm and provide details on underdrain. No storm connections to play area shown on #C-6.

Timbers and underdrain (no mulch) are to be provided by GC for both playgrounds. See attached sheet A2.0 for details.

Q6. Please clarify the scope of work required of the contractor for the relocated play area (#1) as shown on C.6.

Playground equipment will not be relocated by GC. Owner will remove and install new playground equipment. GC responsible for removing fencing, timbers and underdrains as needed for grading.

Q7. Plan notes on #C-13 indicate 53,944 SF of undisturbed wooded area. Confirm there are no requirements for invasive species remediation or eradication.

Urban forester will be onsite to confirm but 3 years ago when plans were prepared none were identified as invasive species.

Q8. Paving plan #C-10 indicates asphalt paving section at street ROW to match existing. Advise required section details.

No work expected in the right-of-way. Q9. On drawing C-17, Tree conservation plan, tree #8, #9, and #10 have a conflicting statement under the recommendation column. It begins by stating for Contractor to not remove the tree without Owner consent and permission. Then it ends by stating for the Contractor to not save this tree, and to remove it when clearing. Please confirm if Contractor has permission to remove it when clearing. If a tree is located off school property, we must get permission from the adjacent property owner. If property owner refuses removal, the tree will remain. Q10. On drawing C-13, Landscape Notes and Computation, the Tree Preservation Narrative note #5 states the Contractor is to perform root pruning along the limits of clearing and grading as shown on the tree conservation plan. (drawing C-17). There are currently no callouts for root pruning on the drawing C-17. Would this be identified during the Pre-Construction Walkthrough, scheduled on 1/16/19? Please provide and call out these specific root pruning locations on the tree Conservation Plan. Sheet C14 has detail to show roof pruning at limits of clearing. Q11. Civil sheet C.2 references many VDOT Regulations however there does appear to be any work

in the right of way. Please verify that these notes do not apply.

VDOT notes are standard and must be present on drawings even if they don’t apply.

Q12. Is the contractor required to apply for or pay for the VSMP Permit on this project?

Permit is paid for and Contractor only needs to transfer responsibility.

Q13. civil sheet C.5 requires removal of utility poles and a transformer. Please verify this work will be performed by the utility company and is not the responsibility of the contractor.

GC to coordinate with Dominion Power.

Q14. Spec Section 02010 geotech report indicates all existing fills within building additions are to be proofrolled, undercut, and replaced. To what depth? Spec Section 02200-3.02 indicates excavation is UNCLASSIFIED. Confirm UNCLASSIFIED TO DESIGN SUBGRADE ELEVATIONS. Soils are unclassified.

Q15. Spec Section 02070 indicates contractor is responsible for ACBMs, fluorescent lamps, PCB ballasts, lead and ACM putty @ windows, metal primer on steel, CFCs, wood utility poles – is there a current hazardous materials survey available to quantify materials? Reinspection update layout dated 2/6/17 included therein shows nothing. Schedule lists 25 firedoors that do not show on layout – location(s)? NIC?

Spec Section 02070 includes the report specific to this school, no other information is available. The 25 doors assumed positive are indicated on the school report by the little black rectangles at door openings.

Q16. Spec Section 02100 – are there any VSMP requirements from DEQ? Is there an issued SWPPP available?

VSMP has been acquired; GC will need to transfer into their name. FCPS has SWPPP.

Q17. Spec Section 02930-2.01 indicates topsoil must be free from roots and rocks. Plan notes on site layout #C-13 conflict. Confirm screened topsoil will NOT be required.

If topsoil is free from roots and rocks, then screening will not be needed. However screening will be required if rocks, debris, and roots are present.

Q18. Plan notes on plan set COVER SHEET indicate we are to maintain existing roof warranty during construction. Identify existing roof manufacturer and product.

See Drawings A4.1 and A4.2 for product information.

Q19. Plan note #19 on #A1.3 indicates we are to relocate existing AEDs – quantity shown is two (2). New work plans show total of three (3) AED units – confirm we are to provide only one (1) AED unit w/ cabinet.

No- existing (2) are relocated to be used during construction/phasing (note #19) only. New AED units are to be provided in 3 locations. Spec section10530.

Q20. Plan layouts #A2.2/#A2.3 have notes requiring vinyl corner guards – confirm location(s)?

Corner guards where detailed at all gyp bd columns -see details sheet A2.2

Q21. Plan detail #10/A2.8 indicates safe – location(s)?

Detail A/A2.8 (Typical Classroom) notes that tables, desks and chairs will be provided by the owner and placed by the contractor. Is there a location where the items will be stored prior to the contractor placing them? Is there a quantity for the items or are these items the same ones quantified in the summary of work in the specifications? Please clarify the requirements for this scope.

Requirements per 01010. Means and methods as far as moving and storing. Q24. Door 188 within the Courtyard on sheet A2.2 as well as the door schedule shows a double door. The frame type called out on the door schedule is a single. Please correct frame type. No. Frame is correct as a single frame. There is to be no center mullion and hardware calls out flush bolts. Q25. Sheet A2.11 detail drawing 7 indicates that 1x solid wood at each exposed side edge of the gymnasium wall pads be provided. The wall pads specified in Section 11488 are a factory product. The front and sides of the plywood/ OSB are wrapped with vinyl. There is no exposed plywood or OSB once installed. Can this detail be modified to eliminate this 1x blocking? If blocking is wrapped with vinyl then 1x blocking is not required. If no vinyl wrapping, 1x blocking is required. OSB/ plywood will not be accepted at edges. Q26. Reference spec section 11132, RCP, on power plans do not specify a projection screen at Gym 175, however a projection screen is shown on Sht Elev 1/A2.11 Please confirm a projection screen is to be provided in that location.

Delete projection screen on elevation 1/A2.11 Q27. Plan note #D.16.D on structural drawing #S0.1 indicates cost of concrete testing is by contractor. Confirm FCPS covers all 3rd party inspections.

Q28 Plan details 1,2,3,4/S5.2 indicate existing columns to be jacked – need spec on 10T/15T material noted.

Q30. Plumbing layouts #P1.1/#P3.1 indicate grease interceptor with a reference to a plan detail that does not exist. Confirm existing to remain or new unit to be installed. Clean existing?

New grease interceptor is shown in ‘Three Compartment Sink Piping Detail’ on sheet P4.1

Q31. Spec Section 15500-1.02.B indicates existing sprinkler heads to be removed/replaced with uprights during phased construction. Plan notes on #FP1.1 indicate existing sprinkler system must remain operational at all times. Need confirmation that existing sprinkler system within phased renovation areas can be taken and left off-line during renovation – areas will be open to outside weather and conflict with installation of new MEP and structural work during renovation. Same question for existing fire alarm system. FCPS has been able to secure waiver from FM on recent bid projects. Confirm.

Q32. Electrical site layout #E1.1 plan note #9 indicates we are to reroute existing power U/G feed where new wing addition goes. Status of current FCPS coordination with DOMINION POWER on new electrical service and termination of existing such that foundations will not be delayed awaiting relocation?

This is the responsibility of the General Contractor.

Q33. Is there a specification for the new trench drain in the new courtyard?

See Sheet A2.0, note #2 Q34. Drawing M5.1 details two temporary mobile packaged heat pump units to assist in phasing. Is the intent of these units to serve a portion of the occupied space or the unoccupied spaces under renovation? Units are for occupied spaces.

no work to be provided by the GC.)

Sub-Contractors:

• It is the responsibility of the General Contractor to confirm that all required sub-contractors have the proper bonds. Any bid received with a sub-contractor that cannot provide the proper bond shall be considered a non-responsive bidder.

• Several sub-contractors have minimum/ bonding requirements listed in the specifications, only provide sub-contractors that meet those requirements.

• Note- pay requisitions will not be processed without all bonds required submitted to FCPS.

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Structural Properties: Design, fabricate and install work to withstand wind loads for components and cladding as defined in the 2015 Virginia USBC Refer to the Code Sections governing Glass and Glazing, and Structural Loads. Deflection shall not exceed 1/175 of span. Provide a safety factor of 1.65 of allowable stress.

B. Provision for Thermal Movement: Fabricate and install the entrance and

storefront to provide for such expansion and/or contraction of component materials as will be caused by an ambient temperature range of 150o F. without causing harmful buckling, opening of joints, undue stresses on fasteners, or other detrimental effects.

C. Water Infiltration: There shall be no water (other than condensation) on room

side of any of finally fabricated and installed members. Test for infiltration in accordance with ASTM E331, using a minimum test pressure of 8 PSF.

D. Air Infiltration: Test units in accordance with ASTM E283. Infiltration shall not

exceed .06 CFM per square foot of fixed area. 1.04 SUBMITTALS

1.05 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING:

B. Store units in upright position off ground on dunnage.

C. Protect from weather and damage in a well ventilated, dry and secure area.

D. Store in designated areas as close as possible to point of installation. 1.06 WARRANTY

A. Provide manufacturer’s written one (1) year warranty.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS

A. Aluminum: 6063-T5 or T6 alloy and temper. Framing members shall have a nominal face dimension of 2-1/2" and an overall depth of 7-1/2".

B. Fasteners: All exposed fasteners shall be either aluminum or stainless steel in

accordance with ASTM A164. No plated steel fasteners shall be allowed.

C. Finish: All exposed surfaces shall be free of scratches or other blemishes and shall be finished using one of the following methods:

1. Organic: Kynar-based "Duranar" or "Fluropon," complying with AA-M12-

C41-R1X and AAMA 2605.

2. Color: Selection shall be made from manufacturer's standard range of colors.

2.02 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

2.05 HARDWARE FOR ENTRANCE DOORS

2.06 FABRICATION

A. Accurately fit and securely join curtain wall frame connections to provide tightly

closed joints. Accurately make all cutouts, recesses, mortising or milling

operations required for hardware and reinforce with backing plates to insure adequate strengths of connections. Reinforce division and corner members as required to adequately support doors, tempered glass and additional loads. Securely anchor vertical members to structural members. Shop fabricates extruded or formed members into complete units, in such a manner that units can be installed without removal of any part.

B. Glass framing members shall provide for flush glazing on all sides with through-

sightlines, and no projecting stops to face joints. The system shall provide fully resilient settings for glass and panels by use of elastomeric gaskets on both sides of the glass. Adapters and mountings for trim moldings and face materials shall be designed so as to permit the installation of these products in regular manner, and not interfere with the normal assembly and weathering of the grid framing.

C. Sizes of components and necessary field connection and fastenings required for

installation shall permit easy assembly by means of standard construction equipment and tools.

D. Welding:

1. Filler rods: AWS A.5.3.62.

2. Finish surfaces free of distortion and discoloration.

3. Remove weld spatter and welding oxide from finished surfaces.

4. Grind weld beads flush with exposed surfaces and polish to blend with

adjacent finish.

E. Mechanical Assemblies:

1. Fit corner joints rigid and weathertight.

2. Conceal fasteners wherever possible. Where exposed all fasteners to be stainless steel.

3. Perimeter anchors: When steel anchors are used, provide insulation

between steel material and aluminum material to prevent galvanic action. F. Protective coatings:

1. Factory-applied.

2. Solvent-clean metal surface.

3. Apply bituminous coating compound to aluminum in contract with galvanically incompatible metal.

4. Apply zinc chromate primer to aluminum surfaces to be installed in

contact with concrete or mortar.

G. Weatherstrip:

1. Install weatherstripping in retaining grooves designed as integral part of the doorframe and stile and mullions.

2. Weatherstripping shall be continuous at corners.

H. Finish: Refer to 2.01.

A. See Drawings for storefront profiles and details. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSPECTION

A. Curtain Wall openings shall be checked for size, plumb, level and alignment before erection of framing. Notify Architect and Owner’s Representative of any conditions encountered that would interfere with proper installation.

B. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Certified Installer: Factory trained, certified, and possessing identification as a “Certified Installer”. As an alternative, installer shall demonstrate suitably equivalent competence and experience.

B. Install work true to line, plumb, level, square, in proper planes with other work,

free from sags, waves, buckles, or other objectionable defects. Adequately anchor work to resist safely all stresses to which the work shall normally be subjected.

C. Builders' hardware and thresholds: Coordinate with Section 08710 for accurate

fit in accordance with manufacturer's printed instructions. Doors shall operate smoothly and quietly after installation and adjustment. Door closing devices shall be adjusted immediately prior to final inspection.

D. At jambs and head of frames, fill space between back of frame and the enclosing

walls solid with fiberglass, rock wool, or untarred oakum packed tight to within 3/8 in. of each face of the aluminum frame.

E. Coordinate with hardware manufacturer’s representative to provide installation

inspection of closers and exit devices prior to final acceptance by Owner. A written report shall be provided to the Owner’s Representative and Architect within two weeks after inspection.

F. Glazing: Glass shall be outside glazed and held in place with extruded aluminum

pressure plates anchored to the mullion using stainless steel fasteners spaced no greater than 9” on center. Each light of glass shall be compartmentalized using joint plugs and silicone sealant to divert water to the horizontal weep locations. Weep holes shall be located in the horizontal pressure plates and covers to divert water to the exterior of the building.

3.03 CLEANING

A. Clean aluminum surfaces with a non-toxic cleanser on all exposed surfaces, removing all mortar, paint, sealants, or other contaminants.

B. Remove all debris associated with the work of this section, and dispose of

legally. 3.04 PROTECTION

A. After cleaning, protect all framing members from damage by work of other trades. Protect surface finish from scratches or other blemishes. Maintain protection until final acceptance by Owner.
