BUMC Blood DriveWe collected 37 units on our last drive, bringing our total

for 2014 to 191. Although just below our goal of 200 units, we received an award for leading Methodist churches in Baton Rouge. Thank you to all our 2014 donors!

With donations from our faithful senior adults starting to decline, we hope to pick up additional support from our youth and young adults.

Our initial 2015 Blood Donation Sunday is set for March 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room 101 of the Adult Building. If you are medically able, please give the gift of life. It is helpful if donors register ahead of time, but walk-ins are always welcome.

Thank you for your continuing support, and to all donors who will help make 2015 our best blood donation year yet. See you on the 29th!

Christ the Lord Is Risen TodayThis hymn written by Charles Wesley was intended for the new Chapel in London in the

year 1739. One of the more interesting aspects of the hymn is found in its title. Christ the Lord “IS” risen today, a very intended present tense. More than Christ “was” raised, this proclaims Christ “is” risen. It is a faith for the NOW. And the powerful chorus of Alleluia is being sung by earth and heaven.

Witnesses of the resurrection include the women at the open tomb, the apostles, and many others. But witnesses of the resurrection do not cease in that day or decade or century. Charles Wesley would consider himself a witness of the resurrection. Indeed, all followers of Christ are in some sense witnesses of his resurrection. And not just witnesses, but participants.

In the presence of hope and joy and peace, that come from Christ, He is risen, He in near. So Wesley writes and sings, “Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia. Sing ye heavens and earth reply, Alleluia.”

The hope we have in Christ is not in vain. Death may cast its shadow, deliver its sting, and boast of its grave, but death cannot forbid him rise. The open tomb opens paradise, freedom of joy. What can anyone do but sing, or as Wesley concludes, “Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia.”

Come help us sing the Alleluia this Easter. All witnesses are needed. Death has made its statement and delivered its sting. Now it is our time to witness, to sing, to rejoice, to love. It is more than he was raised. HE IS RISEN. HE IS RISEN, INDEED!

High School Senior Sunday and College Scholarships

Be watching your mailboxes and email inboxes! A letter will soon go out about our Senior Sunday activities. This will include a letter about the upcoming Senior Banquet and Senior Sunday worship service on Sunday, May 3.

There are two scholarships available to graduating seniors through Broadmoor United Methodist Church: the John Edd Harper Scholarship as well as the BUMC Endowment Fund Committee Scholarship. These will be awarded during the Senior Sunday worship service on May 3.

Letters will also be soon going out with more details about these scholarships. Application deadline will be Monday, April 6 for both scholarships and recipients for both scholarships will be notified by April 27. Please contact Robert Manes in the Youth Office at 924-6269 if you have any questions.

We Had a Great Time at Laundry Love!

On Saturday, February 28 we helped people at two Laundromats with over $150 of washing and drying, telling them that we believe this is a good way to show God’s love to others. Several people asked to take selfies with us, so here is one with our new friend, Gloria! There's nothing like the look on someone’s face when you ask if you can pay for their laundry.

Eggs Needed for Easter Egg HuntPlease drop off PREFILLED (candy/treats) plastic

egg donations to the Children’s Building by Wednesday, March 25. Donation buckets are at each entrance to the building. Contact Cheri Coats at 926-5243 for further information.

Neighborhood Basketball Outreach Needs You!

We are currently short of several volunteer positions to adequately staff our neighborhood basketball outreach consistently. We meet from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. every Thursday night, and just get to know folks who show up to play and serve refreshments. We have made many valuable connections through this ministry, and God continues to send more young men and women through our doors. Please consider helping one Thursday every month! Contact Eddie Manes at 924-6269 or [email protected].

Kindness Outreach For Garage Sale, March 28

Every year, on one day in the spring, over 500 guests appear on our campus for the Community Garage Sale. It is a wonderful opportunity to show them Christ’s love through acts of kindness. These acts include providing Broadmoor Bucks for the children to spend on toys, serving free pancakes, and handing out water to shoppers as they leave. The sale is on Saturday, March 28 and the shifts are from 6:45 until 10:00 a.m. and from 9:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. All you need is a smile and a love for our neighborhood! Contact Eddie Manes at 924-6269 or [email protected].

Welcome Our Newest Members

Joining SundayBroadmoor United Methodist Church designates certain Sundays

of the year as “Joining Sunday,” on which we invite our long-time visitors and constituents to come forward and unite in membership with BUMC. Our latest Joining Sunday on February 22 was an exciting day! 22 new members joined the Broadmoor family, two people were baptized, and over 35 people attended our Guest & New Member Luncheon. This was our most successful Joining Sunday in recent memory!

Many people ask what the advantages are in joining Broadmoor. Our Senior Pastor Fred Wideman explains it this way, “I want to be as honest as I can. Broadmoor offers no membership privileges, only membership responsibilities.” Indeed, the vows to become a member at

Broadmoor, if taken seriously, are

challenging. The vows

confirm our promise and

our covenant to receive Christ as Savior and serve Christ as Lord. To Christ we pledge our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. The best part about forming a covenant with a local

congregation is that our relationship with each

other helps us to grow in our faith. By working and

serving together we are able to contribute to a significantly

larger and broader mission for Christ. Please take a moment to look at the photos of our new members and be

sure to welcome them into the BUMC family when you see them. If you are thinking about officially joining Broadmoor and would like to visit with one of our pastors, please call the church office at (225) 924-6269. Our pastors are here to answer any questions you may have.
