Radio Riverside is proud after being crowned this year’s best community radio station at the Media Development and Diversity Agency and Sanlam Local Media Awards.
The station was acknowledged for embark-ing on projects that seek to assist communi-ties, as well as its progressive role in society through its leading broadcasting shows.
The successful projects undertaken by the station has led to this significant achieve-
ment. The Aubrey Beukes Community Award Scheme is one such campaign that promotes the excellent community work done by various organisations and persons in broadcasting. It awards study bursaries to deserving students in the region. This year, 27 students received bursaries to a total of R271 582.
Every year since 2002, the station collects toys and clothes from businesses and listeners and around Christmas distributes it to young children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Radio Riverside is an integral part of the community of Upington in the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality of the Northern Cape. It broadcasts in four languages and has a weekly listenership of 89 000.
Management said they will continue to inform, educate and entertain the public.
