During the graduation ceremony of the 28 new young students of the

I.T.S. Fondazione G. Caboto together with the delivery of the letters of

employment from Italian shipping companies supporting the project, the

arrival of the University of Rome Tor Vergata as a Member of the

Foundation and the entrance of new shipping companies was made

official.

The I.T.S., tertiary education model, confirmed itself as a concrete answer to the need in Italy

for specialized training, which is closer to the labour market and guarantees employment, and

is considered an innovative and needed tool compared to the traditional training paths.

The merit of ITS Fondazione Caboto has been to train about 140 students in recent years and

to have obtained almost 100% employment for them, exceeding the high rate (81.1%) reached

by the entire Technical Secondary School system. The 2017 tender enabled another 44

students to join those currently attending, keeping the number of students being trained at

the ongoing high levels.

These results have led to the growth over the years of the number of shipping companies

supporting the Foundation and the interest of the University of Rome Tor Vergata in joining

as a new member.

More specifically, the University s arrival will give new impetus and enrich the training offer

establishing consolidated training paths. It represents acknowledgement of the path travelled



by the I.T.S. for a possible University degree course, thus responding to the continual changes

in the shipping world.

In these seven years, I.T.S. Caboto has been an extraordinary opportunity for young

professionals in the Italian maritime sector , declared the Chairman Cesare d Amico. The 140

students who have been able to embark and have achieved their degree are an asset for our

sector s future, and hope for our Country. Mobilising all the energy needed to develop the

excellences of the training and entrepreneurial system allows us to achieve these prestigious

gaols. It gives us great pride to see students so motivated, prepared and representing an

added value for the role they will hold in the working world .

As further evidence of the excellence of the ITS Caboto Foundation, following the first

contribution of regional funds for merit, for the 2017-2019 period the Institute received the

highest contribution among the seven I.T.S present in Lazio region.

Over the years, I.T.S. Caboto Foundation has seen an increase in the number of shipping

company partners. Established in 2010 with just d Amico Società di Navigazione as founding

member, it can now count on the support of several companies: F.lli d Amico, Carboflotta,

Finaval, Italia Marittima, RBD Armatori, Amoretti Armatori Group, Eni lng shipping, Calisa SpA,

Premuda, plus the recent addition of Moby Lines, Bottiglieri SpA and Prysmian Cable &

System.

However, the number of officers available for employment on the global merchant navy fleet

is not enough to satisfy the demand for sea professionals. The I.T.S. technology colleges can

fill this gap, as they express the close collaboration between the education system and the

working world that becomes stronger every year. In fact, during their two-year training course,

students of I.T.S. Fondazione G. Caboto attend about 1,200 hours of expert training classes and

three periods of on-board experience always remunerated and needed to achieve the

official qualification for a total amount of about 4,000 hours.
