English In circle time we have introduced simple classroom rules like raising your hand before you speak, taking turns, listening, and using quiet voices inside the classroom during working time. Every day we have a different child who is the line leader for that day during our line ups at the door and outside after playtimes. We have learnt songs entitled Good Morning, Days of the Week, Months of the Year, and Goodbye. This month we have been learning about the letter sounds and names of letters and Aa, Bb and Cc. We have drawn objects and been shown objects beginning with these letters. We have played alphabet bingo and the children are having a go at sounding out the letter sounds. In reception we have focused on reading sight words a, at, am, all, are, and, big, cat, can, and come. We have practiced writing our Aa, Bb and Cc´s correctly as well as having a go at tracing straight, curvy, zig zag and wavy lines during our pre-writing sessions. We have traced over short sentences e.g., I like …….. It is a ……. I am a ………. We have accompanied our sentences with pictures drawn by the children in their journal books. Maths

We are working on identifying the numbers 0, 1, and 2. We have played number dominoes, number train, and counting toys. We have been introduced to Greedy Zero, Penguin One, and Ticklish Two. We have learnt how to form these numbers correctly and had a go at writing the numbers.

Reception students have cut magazine pictures and stuck them inside a numbers 1 to 5 book and 6 to 10 book.

We have used number lines 0 to 10 practicing counting forwards and backwards. We are identifying what number comes after each number in the number line.

We have made sets of objects and counted them in each of our groups according to colour and similarity.

We have made 2D shape books and labeled triangle, square, rectangle and circle.

We have measured our hand-spans, foot length and height using unifix cubes.

We have spoken about what we do in the mornings before we go to school, wake up, get dressed, have breakfast and going to school. Children have sequenced pictures in the correct order.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We have drawn and labeled parts of our bodies and sang the song Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. We have talked about the importance of eating healthy foods which includes a variety of fruits and vegetables. Also we have realized that milk is good for our bones which helps us become big and strong and full of energy in order to learn in school. Sleep time is also important for us so that we come to school wide awake.

We have talked about our families and bought in photos of ourselves as a baby, as a four year old, photos of brother and/or sisters, mums, dads and grandparents. We have shared which country we come from be it India, Brazil, Chile, or Pakistan.

We have ordered family members of the family from the youngest to the oldest.

Reception have drawn their homes from the outside. We have looked inside a home and drawn what furniture is inside the lounge, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom.

We have discovered different textures in our world. We made a Textures Book. Words introduced were hard, soft, smooth, furry, fluffy, shiny and rough.

We have made moveable skeletons using paper fasteners and named the skull, ribs, pelvis and femur and patella.

Orientation

During these classes we expressed about how we feel and come to learn about the different types of feelings we have. We have expressed anger, happiness, sadness, surprised, excited, sleepy through games and songs. We made a Feelings Book too.

Art

In Art classes with Miss Jeanette we have explored colours. The children have identified colours in the classroom and have drawn and modelled with playdough flowers in green, pink, yellow and blue. They have also drawn with their favourite colours.

We have laced paper red apples and stuck coloured cellophane over a triangle, oval, and circle shape in purple, yellow and red butterflies.

Reception class are looking forward to learning more numbers, letters and shapes in April.

Reception class enjoyed making shamrock necklaces and hats for our internal St Patrick´s Day celebration. We had fun dressing up in green too!
