General inspection

Inspect the general condition of the exterior of the unit and whether the label is intact and clearly legible.

Note whether the label requires replacement.

3

Load Indicator Inspection

Inspect the hook for any exposed red coloring. If any red coloring is visible then loading has occurred.

If the load indicating hook has been deployed the Absorber Assembly and the Cable Assembly must be replaced.

4

Inspect the attachment point for any signs of damage or corrosion. If necessary replace the attachment point assembly with kit 62809-00K2 or 62815-00K2 (30 ft

6 7

Inspecting the absorber assembly

Inspect the absorber assembly for any signs of damage or corrosion. The sealed SRL incorporates a Constant Force energy absorbing coil designed to deploy in the event of a fall. This will result in the coil within the outer section of the nylon case being pulled into the inner section as shown below.

Removing the Constant Force absorber

With the 4 mm hexagonal bit, remove the 6 off M6 x 35 countersunk screws which hold the absorber in position.

Lift the absorber assembly off the shaft and turn over for inspection.

Inspecting the absorber assembly (if not deployed)

If a fall has not occurred, remove the metal coil from the nylon casing and visually inspect for damage or corrosion. Inspect nylon housing including metal insert for signs of damage or corrosion.

If any defects are found the absorber assembly must be replaced using the replacement coil absorber kit 62809-00K3.

If the coil is in good condition, insert it back into the nylon casing. Fit the absorber assembly onto the shaft by matching the ‘D’ shaped shaft to the recess in the center of the absorber assembly and proceed to step 11.

7

9

8

If the absorber has been deployed it must be replaced using the replacement coil absorber kit

62809-00K3. Once replaced proceed to step 10.

If the absorber has not been deployed proceed to step 9.

DeployedNot Deployed

Replacing the deployed Constant Force absorber

If a fall has occurred:

Dispose of the used coil absorber and replace using the replacement coil absorber kit 62809-00K3.

1 Fit the absorber assembly onto the shaft by matching the D-shaped shaft to the recess in the center of the

absorber. Notice that the holes on the new absorber assembly do not line up with the plate.

To align, hold firmly onto the absorber assembly and unscrew the rear nut using the 13 mm socket. You may

feel the absorber trying to rotate in your hand.

2 Now rotate the absorber assembly clockwise until the recessed arrow on the absorber is in the ‘6 o’clock’ position or aligns with the arrow on the mounting plate.

3 Once the absorber is aligned, one additional clockwise turn must be applied before it is fastened in place.

4 Re-tighten the rear nut to prevent the assembly from moving out of position.

Removing the cable exit

Uncrew the 6 off M6 x 14 socket head screws attaching the cable exit using

the 5 mm Hex key.

15

Inspecting the cable assembly

Visually inspect the entire length of the cable assembly for any signs of corrosion, damage or contamination. Inspect the hook for deployment; ensure that the swivel and function of the hook are working correctly.

Pull back the cable bumper and check the swages and eyelet for any signs of damage or corrosion. Return the bumper to the original position.

18

Removing the cable

Using the 5 mm hexagonal key, remove the 2 off M6 x 40 socket head screws located in

the drum that hold the swage in position.

Remove the cable from the drum.

If the drum is accidentally released at this stage causing the drum to rewind at high

speed, no attempt must be made to rewind or re-tension the drum. The SRL must be

returned to SafeWaze or an authorized regional service center for repair.

Inspect the drum for signs of damage or corrosion.

If any damage or defects are found, the unit must be returned to the manufacturer

or a regional full service center.

17

Removing the cable

Insert the attachment point into a vise with soft jaws.

16

Wearing leather gloves carefully unwind the cable fully.

When the cable is fully unwound, insert the drum stop to prevent the drum from turning and retracting the cable.

Inspect the reserve line swage, located 3 ft from the top of the cable, and inspect the end swage for

signs of damage, wear and corrosion.

If the cable assembly (including the hook, swages etc.) fails this inspection or if the load indicating hook has been deployed it

must be replaced.

If the cable requires replacement, dispose of the used cable and replace with kit 62809-00K1/62815-00K1

for galvanized or kit 62810-00K1/62816-00K1 for stainless steel cable versions.
