Ramsay Health Care is fortunate to have a team of more than 150 volunteers who make Peel Health Campus (PHC) a more welcoming and friendly place for patients, visitors and staff alike. Like many of us, our Friends of the Hospital volunteers have faced some challenges during 2020. For six weeks volunteering activities were suspended as a result of COVID-19 restrictions and the re-start of volunteering was carried out in stages to keep everyone safe. Now all our ‘Friends’ are back on site carrying out a range of activities: From manning the ever-popular ’lolly trolley’ which raises funds for medical equipment, to greeting people at our welcome desk, to garden maintenance. One of the most important roles our Friends volunteers undertake is transporting renal patients to-and-from hospital, which has forged many strong bonds of friendship. In fact, their work is so important we created a short film showcasing the relationship between patients and volunteers in the Renal Unit. Check the video out on our website at peelhealthcampus.com.au to get an understanding of how critical it is to provide equitable access to patients who face mobility challenges. Friends of the Hospital volunteers have raised more than $500,000 for our hospital - but we consider their efforts priceless. This year we’re holding a dedicated Christmas lunch to thank our volunteers for their hard work particularly during 2020. We’re pleased to have engaged a fantastic local boutique business, JKL Exclusive Caterers, who have kindly agreed to prepare lunch for the team. We are so lucky to live and work in in a region with strong community spirit.
