June 6, 2003 To whom it may concern, This letter outlines the extraordinarily positive experience I had working with Peter Sugarman at Liberate Technologies. In 2000 and 2001 Liberate was working hard to grow into a position as the major supplier for interactive Internet and E-mail software to the cable TV industry. As the Services Group Program Director on the largest US client account I realized that we needed to capture our deployment procedures and begin creating a written process document for use as a company standard. This was a daunting task given the product complexity, early deployment experience within the company and the number of people involved. I asked Peter to help and was rewarded with the following action and attributes: True understanding of the task and a suggested approach to the document (as opposed to requiring me to dictate it) An ability to cut to the important issues, ask the right clarifying questions and, most importantly, extract a meaningful answer, even from typically introverted engineers often in crowded meeting situations Self-starting, self-motivated action that required very little of my time to manage or direct An experienced telecommuter who demonstrated a willingness to be available at almost any time regardless of short notice Comprehensive translation of the engineering issues into something all parties could understand Peter completed an outstanding, comprehensive document on time that continues in use by other people within Liberate to this day. In these days of downsizing and ever tighter budgets, process capture of the quality Peter provided is more important than ever. Peter Sugarman is a quality addition to any project, team or department and has my full endorsement. Sincerely, John E. McCormick
