As her university supervisor, I observed Diane's teaching during her first semester of clinical practice in the fall of 2015 in a kindergarten classroom at Stone Ranch Elementary School in the Poway Unified School District. Diane's cooperating teacher, Kris Hankins, commented, "Diane has a heart of gold and will do anything to help a child succeed." Throughout the semester, Diane consistently created excellent lessons, and the objectives were clearly stated and communicated to the students. She kept students mentally engaged with her multi-sensory activities, productive work, sequential lessons, and effective questioning. Diane maximized instruction time with clear step-by-step directions, quick transitions, and materials prepared ahead of time. Her teaching was a joy to observe, taught with wonderful energy and enthusiasm. Furthermore, Diane created a warm, caring environment where each student was made to feel accepted and appreciated for his/her own unique qualities. She had good classroom management skills and used a firm yet positive approach when dealing with student compliance. Diane created a classroom environment that supported and nurtured children, both as students and as people. During her clinical practice experience, Diane was a responsible, hard-working professional who maintained a happy, positive attitude. She was bright, analytical, and a truly reflective teacher. She applied information and techniques from her course work into the kindergarten classroom. In terms of interpersonal skills, Diane collaborated well with her cooperating teacher and with the kindergarten team. She valued and built relationships with students, parents, and staff members. In short, Diane Hunt is an excellent new teacher. Her presence and grasp of the classroom environment is truly exceptional. I highly recommend her for a teaching position!
