Funding Type: Projects of between 3 and 15 months can be supported, and the AHRC will fund 60% of the cost of successful projects.

Funding For: The Knowledge Catalyst scheme supports partnerships between universities and non-academic partners such as business, charities, not-for-profit organisations and some publicly funded bodies. The scheme aims to:* exploit the research base in the arts and humanities for commercial and/or cultural gain * make such activities accessible to organisations for whom the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) scheme is not appropriate.

The scheme works by identifying a project that will significantly enhance the operations of the Enterprise Partner, and employing a recent graduate to work on the project, supported by an academic. The successful projects will create a host of opportunities and benefits:* the Enterprise Partners gain significantly as the project is focused around their needs * academics benefit through implementing arts and humanities research expertise in a non-academic environment * the employee gains through working on an important and innovative project, earning a market-rate salary that reflects this.

The AHRC is a sponsor of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) scheme, which facilitates collaborative projects designed to address strategic issues in business or other non-academic organisations.

Funding Type: A KTP is part-funded by a Government grant. A small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) would be expected to contribute about a third of the costs involved in the project. The average annual contribution to a project for an SME would be from around £20,000.

Funding For: KTP provides financial support for three-way partnerships between a Knowledge Base (FE colleges, HEIs, as well as other research organisations), a non-academic partner (including private sector companies, charities and public sector organisations) and a recent graduate who is employed to work on a specific project relevant to the business

Under GROUPS:Grants are also made to local arts and community projects, disability and disadvantaged groups, and to medical causes.

Funding NOT For:Grants are not made for postgraduate study, expeditions, travel and study projects overseas, counselling courses, or to large-scale national organisations or overseas students.

People and organisations who have received a grant within the last two years are not eligible to reapply

Who Can Apply:People in need living in the South West, including schoolchildren, further and higher education students and mature students. Mainly for those whose work will ultimately benefit the wider community. Preference is given to schoolchildren with serious family difficulties so that the child has to be educated away from home, and people with special educational needs.

How To Apply:

In writing to the correspondent. Applications can be made directly by the individual, or through a third party such as a parent/guardian, school/college or educational welfare agency. They should include the individual's current financial circumstances (budget helpful), confirmation of place on course, letter in support (tutor, college or welfare worker) and information about the cost of items needed (if appropriate). An sae should also be included.

When To Apply:At least one clear month before the trustees' meetings in March, July and November.

Projects must be clearly educational, aimed principally to focus upon the needs of children and young people. Trustees are particularly interested in applications that provide opportunities for young people (either to gain qualifications to further their employment prospects or training in crafts which are in danger of dying out). As the ECT is a land based charity, the trustees are keen to support applications which educate people about the rural environment and the countryside, the wide spectrum of the arts, crafts and architecture, and literacy and numeracy. All applications are expected to link in with either the National Curriculum or recognised qualifications. A few research grants are also awarded.

Funding NOT For:Individuals; work overseas; education work which is part of social support, therapy or medical treatment; retrospective grants; building or refurbishment work; sports and recreational activities; agricultural colleges.

Who Can Apply:Registered charitable or not-for-profit organisations. Support for wildlife trusts and for farming and wildlife advisory groups is largely restricted to those based in counties in which the trust owns land (Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, Leicestershire, Dorset and Oxfordshire).

How To Apply:There is no application form. Applicants are asked to send a covering letter addressed to the grants administrator as well as describing their educational project clearly on no more than two additional sheets of A4, specifying how any grant will be spent. A simple budget for that project should be included, noting any other funding applications. Contact staff with any queries.

When To Apply:Apply by 31 January and 31 August annually for grants over £4,000. Grants for amounts under £4,000 are considered at meetings normally held in February, May, July, September and December.

3) Helping young artists to pursue a career in the arts - CLOSED PROGRAMME

Funding NOT For:Art therapy organisations are not eligible to apply. Will not consider applications from schools, further education colleges or organisations based in Greater London or Northern Ireland.

Funding Type: Grant aid will be awarded to a maximum of 75% of total eligible costs, up to a total maximum grant of £1,000. Eligible costs can include donated materials and volunteer time, based on a maximum of £50 per day for general volunteers and £100 per day for professional and technical volunteers.

Funds Distributed: £6,000 (2011-12)

Funding For: Arts projects can cover a wide range of creative opportunities, including visual arts, crafts, media and digital forms, literature and performing arts. *Extra priority will be given to projects: supporting the local economy including economic recovery projects e.g. use of empty high street premises, giving opportunities to unemployed people, supporting vulnerable individuals and families e.g. those who are isolated or have special needs, increasing opportunities for young people to achieve their potential, increasing opportunities for volunteering in the arts, increasing opportunities for skills sharing in the arts, new partnership arts projects to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad.

*Wiltshire Council aims to encourage partnership and would not expect to be the only contributor towards the project. Projects that offer mixed funding ratios and more innovative funding packages will be given higher priority. *If bids exceed the total budget available, priority will be given to organisations who have not already received Wiltshire Council funding.

Funding NOT For:Political or Religious activities; Statutory bodies to fund their core services (includes direct funding for schools/PTAs); Parish or Town councils; Sole benefit of individuals; a private - profit making/commercial organisation; Running costs - e.g. rent, rates, electricity etc.; Work which has already started - this includes projects where orders/instructions have been agreed and resources committed; Projects which could reasonably be expected to secure finance by other means; Projects that are either anticipating, or are already in receipt of, funding from Wiltshire Council (including grants from an area board); Fundraising activities where the core activity is to raise funds for a third party; Training of trustees or fundraisers; Projects that are being administered through a third party.
