Focus: Recap

During this week, you will be given a quiz each day. The main task will use a part of the quiz for you to explore deeper.

Main Task:

1. Click on the link to take the 'Are you smarter than an 11-year-old?’ quiz. Once complete, record your score in your book. This is a bit of fun

and tests ALL areas of the curriculum. It will just be interesting to see how well you do.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z24mqhv

2. Let’s learn more about expanded noun phrases. Visit: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/z3nfw6f

3. Place strong vocabulary choices into the expanded noun phrases to improve them:

The ________ teacher screamed hysterically at the spider.

The ________ view blew him away.

The ________, ________ boy scored his eight goal!

4. Write two sentences of your own that include expanded noun phrases. Underline the expanded noun phrases.

Challenge Task:

If you want to push yourself even further, write a short extract that use two expanded noun phrases. This can be maximum of 2 paragraphs (we

know some of you get carried away). Try to include a semi-colon list, complex sentence, and examples of strong vocabulary.

TOPIC (Science)

Focus: Classification of animals

Scientists organise living things into groups. Each group has common characteristics. Do you remember this clip on BBC bitesize from a few weeks

ago? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zn22pv4/articles/z3nbcwx

Main Task:

1. Sometimes scientists use (or even design) keys to help identify living things and the group they belong to. Watch the following clip on BBC

bitesize. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zxjj6sg/articles/z9cbcwx

2. Now we are going to use a classification key. Go to the school website http://www.woodwater.devon.sch.uk/children/upper-key-stage-2/ to

access Topic 6.7.20 alien classification key.

3. Use this classification key to identify the name of each alien. Start with alien ‘a’ and use the questions to help identify its name. See if you

can identify the name of every alien from a – l. Record the names in a neat list in your book. (In case you’re not sure, ‘antennae’ are long thin

sensors on the head!)

Remember to read every day for

20 minutes as you would do at

school. You are aiming to achieve

an 80% pass rate when you quiz.

We will be checking your

percentage scores; looking at how

much you are reading; and will be

in touch to see how you are

getting on.
