AFTER what seemed like a long pre-season, footy is finally back and what an entertaining start to the 2016 Western Region Football League year we have had.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am the WRFL’s new Media and Communications Manager.
I began working with the league at the end of the October and have been busy getting to know the league, its clubs, players and partners.
Just a bit about me, I have grown up loving football at all levels, whether it be the AFL or at community level, I am also a passionate Magpies fan (don’t hold that against me).
I enjoy writing and listening to stories from people from all walks of life. Telling their stories, giving a voice to the community and sharing it with you, the reader, is what I love to do.
I now feel like part of the team and look forward to working alongside all WRFL clubs throughout the year. It is shaping up to be a thrilling season of football in Melbourne’s west.
It has been an exciting few months since I joined the league, but now the real fun begins.
Both senior and junior competitions were back in action last weekend, kicking off Round 1 in style.
It is great to see champion players put faith in our league, but it is not just the Fevola’s or the Chapman’s that make the WRFL so great, it is the players who week-in, week-out line-up to play for their respective clubs and it is the volunteers who put in hours and hours of work.
It is the people like Michael Psaila and Sharyn Grima who were honoured with Life Membership at our Season Launch.
It is also great to see so many youngsters pull on jumpers and lace up their footy boots for their first game of the season.
While the senior competition is an integral part of the competition, it is also important to remember, juniors also play a vital role. They are the aspiring footballers that are the future of our league.
The WRFL-Western Bulldogs’ Heartland Award is a great initiative by the league and our friends at the Bulldogs, to recognise players that best embodies the true essence of the game, that being; fair play, fun and respect for their team-mates, opposition and umpires.
It is an important initiative that I hope all clubs can get behind.
Make sure to check out the Record and online at the WRFL website for weekly winners.
This year, we will also continue to produce the WRFL Junior Footy Show, so if any clubs have any upcoming events or stories they would like to share, please feel free to get in touch with me.
See you at the footy.

IN front of a packed house at the Yarraville Club the Western Region Football League celebrated the achievements of some of the league’s most deserving volunteers.
As part of the Season Launch the league got the opportunity to not only look ahead to another exciting season of football, but reflect and honour those who have worked tirelessly to make this league so great.
Two more names were added to the list of WRFL Life Members, Sharyn Grima from the Sunshine Heights Football Club and Michael Psailia from St Albans.
Grima’s involvement with Sunshine Heights has spanned more than 30 years.
She has been president, vice president, secretary, assistant secretary, administrator, treasurer, assistant treasurer and canteen manager.
She was voted Best Club Person in 1992, 1999, 2005 and in 2012, was inducted as a Life Member of Sunshine Heights in 1997 and was also honoured by the Brimbank Council for Volunteer Service to the Community in 2010.
Grima said it is a thrill to become a Life Member of the WRFL.
“It is a nice acknowledgement, it shows that women do contribute to football,” she said.
“It is recognition for all the hours all the volunteers put in.”
Psaila has a long list of WRFL achievements, having won five premierships with St Albans as a player.
He then when on to coach, coaching about 300 games for the Saints, leading the club to another two flags.
Psaila was on the football club committee for 15 years and was the president for 10 years.
As well as his stint with St Albans, he was also an important part of the WRFL team.
He was on the FDFL/WRFL Committee of Management for 15 years, was on the Leagues Rule Committee, chaired the WRFL strategic planning meetings and was a board member for three years.
Psaila said he was humbled to receive Life Membership from the WRFL.
He said it wasn’t the premierships that were his biggest highlight, it was the friendships he made over the years as well as helping troubled youth get back on the right track.
“The premierships were enjoyable, but the real prize was the friendships I have made a long the way,” Psaila said.
“The premierships I won came early in my football career and I learnt that there is more to football than winning premierships.
Graeme Hodgart and Paul Battaglia from the WRFL Umpires were presented with 300-Game Life Membership, while David Orchard and Paul Muir were also recognised.
WRFL President Bruce Mildenhall also spoke about the league’s plans for the year.
“We have restructured the junior girls competition to have under-12, under-15s and under-18s as part of our junior competition on Sundays, we have introduced an under-8 competition as a pathway from Auskick and junior football, there is the introduction of the player point system as a state wide club sustainability program and also our senior interleague team will take on the Ballarat Football League in a revamped AFL Victoria championships that includes both metropolitan and regional leagues from across the state,” he said.
Mildenhall also announced the league would have a new president at the half way mark of the season, after he and his wife decided to take an extended trip overseas.

Werribee Districts rising star Oscar Junker was named as co-captain of the Western Jets. Picture: SUPPLIED
YOUNG men from across the Western suburbs have been given the opportunity to become great, not just on the field, but as a contributing member of society.
Talent Manager, Shane Sexton champions the TAC Cup program along with its mission.
“Education is crucial, it’s a fantastic opportunity for outstanding success,” Sexton said.
“The Western Jets create better people, its’ about footy and life programs, the kids are educated on matters of drugs, bullying, violence and safe drinking.”
Sexton continues to emphasis the importance of time management, preparation as well as strength and conditioning.
After a rocky 2015 season and a disappointing 14th position finish on the ladder, the Jets have plenty to make up for and a message to send to the competition that they are the real deal.
During the 2015 season, the Jets had six players appearing in the VFL reserves Grand Final and a further eight featuring in the Williamstown reserves VFL side.
Sexton outlines the goals for the 2016 squad, speaking with great passion and conviction; he gives the impression that the belief in their squad is unwavering and the energy, very upbeat.
The overall goal is to get as many kids drafted to the AFL and offer pathways, which will also pave the way for the rising stars to also get their names on a VFL list.
In 2016 the Western Jets will again have a strong WRFL flavor, with several of the league’s most promising young players scoring spots on the Jets’ list this season.
Twenty-three of its list of 50 for this year hail from a WRFL team, with Werribee Districts youngster Oscar Junker named co-captain alongside Aberfeldie’s Wilson Berry. Tigers star Judah Dundon was also named vice captain.
The connection between the league and the Jets continues to strengthen each year.
So far this season, the Jets are one win and one loss and currently sit in eighth place on the ladder.
Their first win came in Round 1 against the Oakleigh Charges they then lost to the Eastern Ranges.
Today they take on the fourth placed Sandringham Dragons at Burbank Oval at 11am.

The Vikings took on the Tigers in its first home game of the 2016 season. Picture: DARRELL JONES
WHAT can you take from round one of a football season?
If you are lucky you can take four points, no injuries and a full list to head into round two.
Round one winners were Deer Park, Hoppers Crossing, Albion and Werribee Districts.
Jase Perkins the former Port Colts player made a welcome return to the WRFL kicking nine goals for the Lions in their win.
What a nightmare for defenders when they add Brendan Fevola to that line-up. Pass the Panadol please.
Spotswood will make their season debut this week when they travel to Kings Park to take on the Saints.
Spotty have lost a few good players, so it will be intriguing to see what Tom Langlands has to work with in 2016. Picking a winner here is a coin toss.
Albion got off to a great start beating the newly promoted Wyndhamvale.
Troy Kelm was easily best on ground, but he had great support from Josh Bench, the Taylor brothers and Mills who will all be better for the hit out.
Albion’s opponents this week are Sunshine who stayed with Deer Park for most of the game before fading in the last quarter. Again a very hard game to call.
Werribee Districts won’t want to take Wyndhamvale lightly as the Falcons showed last Saturday they deserve to be in Division 1.
The Graham brothers are going to cause opposition sides big problems as both are ball magnets and use it very well.
I think though Districts will be too strong for the Falcons.
The radio match of the day will see Deer Park unfurl its premiership flag and then take on the Warriors.
The Deer Park faithful will get their first look at Brendan Fevola and who will be the Warrior assigned the task to take on the former Coleman medallist? More panadol please.
Whether you think it is good or bad for the league there is no doubt it will get plenty of attention in the football world.
How could you not tip Deer Park?

HOPPERS CROSSING START ON A WINNING NOTEBy CONNOR PAIN
Albion proved to be too good, defeating Wyndhamvale in the opening round of the season. Picture: CODY BENCH
THERE is arguably no other feeling greater than unfurling a premiership flag in front of your home fans.
For the Hoppers Crossing faithful, they were given an encore performance after the Warriors easily dispatched St. Albans in a 12.23 (83) to 4.2 (26) win.
The game started slowly, as both teams were finding their way back into form after the long off-season. Much of the first quarter was played in the midfield, with neither side able to take over the game.
The home side flexed its muscles in the second quarter, seizing control of play through forward pressure and a relentless attack on goal to open up a sizeable 42-point lead at half time.
A lack of concentration and turnovers hurt St. Albans all day, as they often lead to scores for Hoppers Crossing.
Inaccuracy in front of goal (as well as several rushed behinds) stopped the final score from increasing, something the visitors will aim to address in the coming weeks.
Round two sees the Warriors travel away to face Deer Park, while St. Albans will look to grab its first win of 2016 against Spotswood.
The Lions stunned last year’s grand finalist Sunshine with a four goal final term to get over the line by just eight points.
The Kangaroos started the better of the two sides, racing out to an early three goal lead, however over the course of the second and third quarters Deer Park hit back and kept the score line close going into the last term.
The home side could not maintain its advantage and were overrun, a disappointing result in its season’s opening matchup.
Marc Bullen competition high four goals helped lead the Lions in the 10.12. (72) to 9.6. (60) victory.
Sunshine will look to bounce back today against Albion.
The Cats got its 2016 campaign off to a roaring start with an 11.10. (76) to 5.8. (38) win over newcomers Wyndhamvale.
The game was within reach for either side up until three quarter-time, with no quarter time lead being above 15-points.
Five goals in the last quarter sealed the game for Albion, which gives them half as many wins as they had all of last season.
For the new team on the block, the Werribee Districts are its next opponent in Round two.
The Districts again look a strong contender this year with a comfortable 16-point win over Altona.
The visitors led at each break, yet five goals in the final term for the Vikings kept the game interesting.

COBRAS POUNCE ON STORMBy ALEX KARAVAS ROUND 1 officially kicked off on the weekend and the games didn’t disappoint.
Caroline Springs enjoyed the weekend off after its 178-point demolition of Manor Lakes.
For Manor Lakes they took on new comers Albanvale at Robert Bruce Oval who in turn came off a 152-point win in Round 1A.
Both teams started off strongly in the first quarter trading goal-for-goal with the Cobras kicking five goals to four to go into the first change leading by eight points.
Caelin Wright led the way for the Storm as they tried to make a charge in the second quarter, though to no avail.
The Cobras went in to half-time with a handy 19-point lead.
The start of the second half was the same with Albanvale being led by John Sirianni, who booted six majors for the game.
For the Storm they only mustered two majors in the third term and trailed by 31 points going into the last quarter.
From there it was three goals apiece in the last as the Cobras came away with a 32 point win.
Six goals from Sirianni, three to David Azzopardi, and two to Jamie Di Cicco helped the Cobras to their win.
North Footscray travelled to Heathdale Oval to take on Glen Orden as both teams opened their campaigns.
Led by Brayden Montebruno, the Devils were able to mount a charge in the third kicking 5.5 to Glenorden’s 2.0 to take a 36-point lead going into the last.
From there it was all North Footscray as they kicked seven goals in the last quarter to round up a resounding 66-point win and start their campaign on a solid note.
Three goals to Nathan Richardson, two to Tyson Bock, and two goals each to Kaine Williams and Lucas Hall set up the win for the Devils.
Hawks major goal kickers were Reece Duffield, Matthew Sparks, Josh Macdonald, and Dane Thomas who each kicked two.
In the last game of the round Yarraville-Seddon travelled to Shorten Reserve to take on West Footscray in what was anything but a one sided affair.
The Eagles had a nine goal first quarter, to the Roosters just two behinds.
The second quarter was not much of a scoring affair with the Roosters kicking their only goal of the game with Alex Bray the recipient.
The Eagles held a commanding 71-point lead at the main break. The second half saw the Eagles pile on the goals as they kicked 17.16.
The Eagles rounded up a comfortable 186-point win.

21 WRFL FOOTY RECORDDIVISION TWO
NORTH Footscray have started their season in high spirits, after they defeated Glen Orden at Heathdale Oval at the weekend.
From the first bounce the Devil’s dominated, keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the game, this was much to the dismay of Glen Orden who were hoping to start this season strong after not making the finals last season.
Devil Joel Richardson showed the spectators what he was about, kicking a massive nine goals which has rocketed him to the top of the leading goal kicker tally board.
People at the game also couldn’t keep their eyes off Devil, David Hall, who seemed to be in and around the ball the entire day. He won almost all of his contests as well.
Glen Orden didn’t seem to be able to follow through when they got the ball into their 50m, only scoring one goal in the first half, and two more in the second.
North Footscray couldn’t have asked for a better start to their season, defeating Glen Orden by a massive 26 goals.
As disappointing as the loss is, Glen Orden will look to put the game behind them and move on to their next match.
At Robert Bruce Oval, Albanvale managed to played its first match in Division 2 against Manor Lakes.
The Cobras had a strong start to the season and was victorious against the Storm, who have now had back-to-back losses to start the season.
The final score was Albanvale 15.14. (104) to Manor Lakes 3.9. (27).
Caroline Springs had a bye this week.
This round will see Albanvale have a bye, whilst Manor Lakes will host West Footscray, as they meet at Howqua Reserve.
Caroline Springs are keen to get back into it as they make their way over to Hansen Reserve to take on North Footscray in what is shaping up to be one of the games of the round.
Glen Orden are keen to make their mark this season, and will be trying to do just that as they make their way to Yarraville Oval to take on the Yarraville Seddon Eagles.
The question is will the Hawks be able to defeat last year’s runner up? We will have to wait and see.

NORTH SUNSHINE CLINCH ROUND ONE WINBy KRISTEN ALEBAKIS

NORTH Sunshine started its season off in dramatic fashion last Saturday, with the Division 3 team holding off a fast finishing Sunshine Heights.
North Sunshine led by 34-points heading into the final quarter of the match and looked likely Round 1 winners, until a barrage of Sunshine Heights goals gave the away side some last quarter jitters.
The Roadrunners kicked just one goal five in the final quarter to the Dragons’ six goals one.
Sunshine Heights, who were relegated from Division 2 and didn’t score win at all in 2015, almost snatched the win, but couldn’t manage to close the gap, losing by just eight points.
For North Sunshine, Anthony Fawcus led the way with five goals, Brenton Cooper also booted four of his own.
Keelan Privitera led the charge with four goals for Sunshine Heights, while playing-coach Robert Greto and Gregory Porter also kicked three goals each.
The Dragons should be proud of their efforts in the opening game of the season and under the guidance of Greto, will look to build on their round one performance.
While for North Sunshine, the coach Joe Larizza will address those goal kicking issues in the final quarter this week.
The club will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they take on Laverton in Round 2.
That match will be played under-lights at Dempster Park. The reserves will kick-off at 5pm while the seniors will play at 7.15pm.
New senior team Newport Power came close to scoring a round one win against Tarneit, but fell short by 11-points.
In what was a close game all day, the Power, led by playing coach Mark Williams, couldn’t manage to bridge the gap.
However, it was the best possible start to the season for Tarneit.
After claiming five wins last season, the club is hopeful of having a bigger impact on the senior competition in 2016.
Aaron Molivas kicked four goals and Richard Psaila kicked three for Tarneit, while Williams was leading the goal kicker for Newport with four majors.
Parkside stamped their authority on the competition with a massive 121-point victory against Braybrook at Pennell Reserve.
After a close first quarter, Parkside was able to pull away from their opponents, scoring eight goals in the second quarter, seven in third and then another nine goals in the final term.
Mohammed Khartabil was unstoppable for Parkside, kicking a massive 13 goals.
Sanctuary Lakes also made a positive start to the season with a 22-point win against Laverton.
The Sharks led from the first bounce to the final siren, securing an all-important round one win.

A new season saw two new teams join Division 3 of the WRFL competition, with Sunshine Heights having been relegated to the lower division, while Newport Power played in the senior competition for the first time.
For the Dragons, the debut into the new season started slow, with visitors North Sunshine seeming to be in control of the match and skipped out early to a 26-point lead at quarter time.
The Roadrunners maintained the lead in the second term, despite playing against the scoring end, and held a 13-point lead at the main change.
A much tighter third quarter would see the Roadrunners extend their lead to 19-points, playing a strong defensive game and keeping the Dragons to just one goal.
However, the experience of the Dragons proved to be too good, as they kicked seven goals to just a solitary behind in the final quarter, out running the roadrunners by 29-points.
Matthew Camilleri was the most influential player on the ground, with four goals to start off his year, while Roderick Vella was also influential, kicking a goal and playing well out of the middle.
Meanwhile for the celebrations will have to wait for the Newport Power.
Despite putting in a gallant display in its first outing, they fell 24-points short of the Titans, who will be a serious contender this year.
Parkside flexed their muscles against the Brookers, who kicked just one goal in the match, while the Magpies, who had 15 individual goal scorers went on to win by a massive 203-points.
To close round one, Sanctuary Lakes showed a strong display against Laverton, showing they are on the rebound in 2016, taking the four points with a 62-point belting of Laverton.
This weekend, Newport may have a chance to score their first win, as they host Braybrook in their first home match of the season.
Reigning premiers Wyndham Suns will travel to Sanctuary lakes as they kick off their 2016 campaign, in what should be a quality display of football, with the Sharks eager to make up for a disappointing 2015.
Laverton and North Sunshine will both have an opportunity to take their first win of the year, as both teams will be looking for an early win.
Finally, Parkside will be looking to establish themselves on top of the ladder after a big win, however will have to overcome the Dragons on their way.
Tarneit has the bye this round.

LAWS OF THE GAME – QUIZ #2
Last week’s question:
The field umpire notices during the game that Player A is wearing an item of protective equipment that is not approved by the WRFL. What happens next?
The correct answer was (OPTION B) The field umpire immediately stops play and directs Player A from the playing field. (See Law 9.4.1).
This week’s question:
The ball is at centre half-forward for Team A and is contested by the players before bouncing clear of the pack. The field umpire hears the siren and signals that play has come to an end. As the field umpire collects the ball he notices that a player from Team B grabs an opponent around the neck. What happens next?
(a) The field umpire continues to view the players to ensure that no reportable offence occurs as he is leaving the field.
(b) The field umpire awards a free kick to the player from Team A.
(c) The field umpire awards a free kick and a fifty metre penalty to the player from Team A.
Be sure to check out the correct answer in next week’s WRFL Footy Record.
It’s great to have local football back with us.
The weeks and weeks of pre-season training, although coming to an end only a week or two ago, will quickly be forgotten and fade into the distant past.
It may still be early days but now footballers, their family members, club officials, spectators and umpires can begin to settle into some sort of routine.
Now we have the majority of the season in front of us with football week in, week out.
Just like the players at various clubs, the umpires have been hard at work on the training track.
The field umpires and the boundary umpires have been geared to improve and maintain their fitness.
One aspect that is being put into practise more and more in the training of umpires is, skill work.
Often the field umpires will be out on the training track, with whistles in hand, making position and giving decisions as the group simulates match-type situations.
The boundary umpires will be seen tossing the ball in, over and over, in the hope of developing consistency with their throw-ins.
At times they will be using the posts at Scovell Reserve or MacKillop Secondary College as part of their training either dashing to the posts, collecting the football to return it to the centre or running back down the boundary line as the phantom full-back kicks the ball into play.
The goalies devote more than half of their time at training to skill work using the posts but also creating scenarios involving scoring opportunities.
Another aspect that is more obvious in recent times is regular meetings for umpires.
Thirty years ago these were simply umpires’ association meetings that discussed any matter
related to local football. Now the meetings are more specific.
Often the field umpires, boundary umpires and the goal umpires will meet in their individual groups discussing particular aspects of their disciplines. Hopefully this means greater knowledge for all concerned.

Spotswood kicked off its 2016 campaign with a win against Deer Park. Picture: KRISTEN ALEBAKIS
THE 2016 season started the same way last year’s season ended, with a grand final replay between Spotswood and Deer Park.
In a fiery clash at McLean Reserve, the Woodsmen overcame a hard-tackling Deer Park side to earn an 11-point victory.
The Lions got off to a fast start with the first goal of the match but were restricted to just one more in the first half as Spotswood kicked six of their own to take a 25-point lead into the long break.
Deer Park worked their way back into the game in the second half with a late flurry of goals to end the third quarter while Spotswood struggled with poor kicking in the forward line, kicking only three goals from 13 scoring shots in the second half.
Ultimately the Lions fell short as Spotswood were able to hold on in the last quarter for their first win of the new season.
Mickey Nicholls looked dangerous up forward for Spotswood with several strong marks and three goals while James Beilby chipped in with two.
New recruit Rusiate Komaitai was a standout performer for Deer Park in the ruck while both Joshua Schembri and Nicholas Christofi were lively in the forward line snagging two goals each.
Altona also started their season with a win, beating Werribee Districts by 29-points at Grant Reserve.
The Vikings started strong with a five goal to two first quarter to lead by 23-points at quarter time and held on to that lead for the rest of the game.
Altona’s Matthew Wright had a best on ground performance with three goals in his first game for his new club.
The final match of the round saw Hoppers Crossing defeat Yarraville Seddon by 93-points at Hogans Road Oval.
After a slow start, the Warriors kicked into gear in the second and third quarters to take home a big win and top spot on the ladder.
Hoppers Crossing had a wide spread of contributors on the day with 10 individual goal-kickers while Michael Tsaloukis was the standout for the Eagles, kicking three of the team’s four goals.
This week will see all the winners matched up against the losing teams from last week’s games.
Last year’s grand finalists Deer Park will look to get their first win in 2016 when they face a Hoppers Crossing team full of confidence after their big win at John McLeod Oval.
Werribee Districts will host Spotswood in their first home game of the year at Soldiers Reserve while Yarraville Seddon will face Altona at Yarraville Oval.

TEAM EFFORT IN WERRIBEE DISTRICTS’ BIG WINBy NICK GALEA
Werribee Districts put in a dominant display against Sanctuary Lakes. Picture: SUPPLIED
THE WRFL is back.
The 2016 season sees a significant restructure of the WRFL fixtures with the formation of Under-15s, 17s and 19s competitions to replace last seasons Under-16s and 18s competitions.
This change will give the players another season to develop their skills before they hit open age football.
In what was near perfect conditions for football, last year’s Under-18B runners up, Werribee Districts started their Division 2 Under-19s campaign in the best possible way recording a 139-point win over Sanctuary Lakes.
The final score was 25.17. (167) to 4.4. (28) at Soldiers Reserve, Werribee.
The Sharks were on the back-foot from the opening few minutes as the Tigers stormed to a 35-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter started far better for the Sharks as they got their first goal early in the quarter but it was all Werribee in the opening half with a 55-point lead at half time.
Right before the half time siren a wonderful dribble kick in the right forward pocket from Marvin Seevers resulted in a much needed goal.
From that moment onwards the Tigers were ruthless in the third and fourth quarters slamming 15 goals to two with Madding Atem’s solo effort in the third quarter and Jake Clarke’s long bomb from 50 metres in the fourth quarter a highlight.
For the Tigers, Atem was best on ground, putting in a dominant display in the midfield and up forward with
three goals and as did Scott Woods, Harley Kilby and Daniel Kerruish who made numerous leads and slotted six goals. Logan Cotter was also strong, he booted four goals.
Adam Elbob, Brendan Chiem, Marvin Seevers and Xavier Smith toiled hard and were the best for the Sharks in what was a disappointing result.
In the other Under-19 Division 2 game, Albion were comfortable winners over Wyndhamvale in their game at Wyndhamvale South Oval recording a comprehensive win.
The final score was 18.18. (126) to 7.9. (51).
Cooper Muir and Nicholas Millar were the bests for the visitors with three and four goals respectively.
Jayme Gilmore, Brenton Cox and Jhoshuar Dean with two goals were the best for Wyndhamvale.
Albion stretched their lead at every interval and ran away with the game after half time kicking 12 goals to three.
Round 2 will see last year’s Under-18 grand finalists Newport Power and Werribee Districts battle it out at Price Reserve, Werribee, and Albion up against Sanctuary Lakes who will look to atone for last week’s game at JR Parsons Reserve.
Wyndhamvale have the bye.

TIV PARTNERSHIP KICKING GOALS
The strong partnership between the WRFL and TIV is set to continue in 2016.
The two organisations have worked together for several years and will continue to work hand-in-hand to promote TIV’s building and training
programs for another year.
In 2016, TIV will take on the naming rights of the Leagues Under-19 competition, which will now be known as the TIV Cup.
Participants in the new Under-19 competition are the target audience for TIV’s Cert 3 in Carpentry and Bricklaying courses.
TIV’s Business Development manager Jason Pickles said club’s showed a great interest in the TIV course at the league’s Suppliers and Partners function earlier this year.
“A number of WRFL clubs expressed an interest in me visiting their clubs to talk to their Under-19 players, and their parents, about the opportunities this Cert 3
in Carpentry and Bricklaying courses offered,” he said.
Mr Pickles went on to say that a number of AFL footballers have enrolled in these courses, with the support of their club, in a bid to be better prepared for
life after football.
“We’re very pleased to have TIV sign up again as a partner,” WRFL’s Peter Harley said.
“TIV’s involvement provides our clubs with the opportunity to pass on to their Under-19 players and their family’s information about
potential careers in the building industry.”
Mr Pickles will be in contact with WRFL clubs to set up times for an initial visit as well as to discuss the option of TIV’s presenting to the
Under 19 players and their parents.
