4-H Lumby Beef Club Contact person:

Mission Statement: “To learn by doing”
Meetings: Please inquire.
Activities: Youth 9 years to 19 years obtain a weaned
steer or heifer by January and feed for 150 days. The animals will
be shown at the Livestock Show in July where the steers are sold by
auction. The meeting consists of a business part and informational
part. There is a rally in May where the members take part in
judging various projects. The 1st Saturday in June is Achievement
Day where the members present their projects for judging and
continue to the Livestock Show in July. A year-end banquet day is
held at the end of the season where achievement awards are
presented.
Membership fees: Fees are not charged for the beef club, but as part
of the 4-H network, membership fees of $70 are allocated between
the district 4-H council ($5) and the regional council ($65). A
president, treasurer and secretary are voted in by the youth
membership with the leader assisting with the agenda. Parents are
very involved.

Purpose: We are dedicated to the education and well being of the
student, the parent, and the strengthening of the community. We
encourage parents to be involved with the education and
fundraising efforts in order to support the school environment.
The annual fundraiser is the silent auction planned for the first
Saturday in November. The money raised is gifted back to the
needs of the school in order to aid with the success and growth of
our students. We hope to promote effective communication
between home and school in order to strengthen the role of
families in education.
Meetings: Last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 in the staff room.

Purpose: To preserve the natural environment around Cherry
Ridge and Cherryville through sustainable logging practices,
entering an agreement with the Ministry of Forests & Range for
salvage operations, to manage the Cherryville community forest,
and to preserve the watershed and habitat for mule deer. Funding
is obtained through salvage logging where dead and dying trees
are logged to prevent the spread of bark beetle. Half of the annual
interest goes to community causes with an environmental flavour.
Volunteers and hired loggers conduct the salvage operations
using equipment that has a minimal footprint. The society has
been operating since 1997 on the premise that environmentalists
and loggers have common cause to create a healthy environment.
Activities: Participation with a float for Cherryville Days and
Adopt-A-Highway.
Meetings: Periodic (at Cherryville Hall)
Hours: 3-5 Thursdays at Cherryville Hall Office on demand

Purpose: To research and record the history of Cherryville area
and to develop and maintain the Cherryville Museum The
museum is an attractive log building, constructed on the grounds
of the Gold Panner Campground and houses local artifacts and a
collection of over 1100 heritage photographs. The society is
funded by public donations, and through the sale of calendars,
booklets and with the proceeds from the sale of their 271 page
book “A Century of Life in Cherryville”. The Society has been
in existence since 1994.
Activities and Events: Various fund-raisers are held throughout
the year. The museum is operated by volunteers of the society,
and is open to the public from the end of June until mid
September, or other times by special appointment.
Hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday 2:00-6:00pm
Meetings: Irregular.
AGM: February or March.
Membership Fees: Membership is open to all ages for $2.00 per
year.

Description: The group consists of traditional hunters and archers
using recurves, longbows and primitive bows. The group is
associated with Traditional Bowhunters of B.C. (See:
www.tbbc.kics.bc.ca/club.htm). Fundraising from shoots is for the
purpose of replenishing targets, fixing outhouses and maintaining
supplies for the shoots. The group has extra bows and arrows
available for people who wish to try out this sport and have fun in
a safe, ethical manner. Randy, Len, or Lawrence are also available
for lessons or coaching. Contact them for details.

Description: Cherryville Days is hosted every first weekend of
June by the Cherryville Community Club. It is the annual major
fund-raising event for the community of Cherryville.
Saturday starts off with a pancake breakfast at the park. The
rest of the day will be filled with fun entertainment for all ages.
Amongst other things there will be a parade, bake contest and
raffle, tea garden, concession, face painting, Bavarian garden,
bingo, adult dance, kid’s zone, and live entertainment all day at
the Bandstand.
Sunday’s events start with pancake breakfast at the horseshoe
tournament, Sunday service, tea gardens, pet show, Bandstand,
kids bounce area, bingo, watermelon eating contest, family
games, and we end our festival with our Annual Chicken ‘n’
Fixins dinner.

Purpose: To support the students of JW Inglis through activities,
events, and fundraising. We assist with parent/guardian and staff
relationships to make a comfortable and welcoming school
atmosphere.
Activities: A family barbecue in the fall, family fun night in the
fall, and a silent auction during Lumby Days. Fundraisers include
magazine and cookie dough sales. The PAC provides skating,
swimming lessons, fine arts, and technology support funds.
Meetings: 3rd Wed. of each month at 6:30 pm in the school
library. Principals, trustees, and teacher reps. attend these
meetings.

to join.

Activities: Registration deadline for Minor Hockey is July 15th for
various divisions according to age and skill level. Fees include
insurance, and range from $135 to $475. First time players receive
50% off registration fees. Sponsorship and kidsport equipment is
available. There are three streams of hockey according to the
LDMHA Policy Manual:
Initiation (4 to 10 yrs.) consistent with the Canadian
Hockey Association and is designed for beginners with an
emphasis on enjoyment and skill acquisition
Recreational (emphasis on “fitness, relaxation and
fellowship” starting at the Pee Wee level (“House”)
following with Bantam and Midget
Competitive - begins at Pee Wee level followed by
Bantam (13 – 14 yrs.) and Midget (15-17 yrs.) known as
Rep Hockey – involves on and off ice training.
Senior Atom/Atom Development (9 to 10 yrs.) is
considered to be an introduction to Rep hockey.
Coaches are trained to teach the various divisions.
Special Events: Tournaments throughout the year. Hockey banquet

Activities: As part of the recreational services for the North
Okanagan Regional District, managed by the Village of Lumby,
the centre administers room rentals and programs for the area:
sports and recreational activities for all ages.
Other agencies rent the facility for child development and parent
programs, youth clubs, community groups, etc. The hall’s rooms
and kitchen are available for rent on an as-available basis. The cen-
tre also houses the Okanagan Regional Library– Lumby Branch.
The outdoor pool and spray park is run by the department during
the summer months. The Pat Duke Memorial Arena is also part of
the White Valley Park, Recreation and Culture for Lumby & Area.

Description: The Richlands Historic Flume Trails Society was
founded in 2007 as a non profit organization whose
primary objective is to preserve the Richlands Flume Trail in
Cherryville and establishing it as a recreation trail for all users. The
construction of the flume trail was started by the Richlands Land &
Irrigation Co. in April of 1911. Irrigation ditches through the
Richlands Flats had been started the
previous year. It was proposed to make Richlands a fruit producing
area. The flume supplies water from Heckman Creek for the homes,
animals, orchards and crops.
The Society also locates and preserves any artifacts related to
Richlands, BC and the engineering workings of the original
irrigation system.

Purpose: T.O.P.S mission is to support our members as they “take
off pounds sensibly”. Your doctor suggests a good weight for you
taking in consideration of your health and T.O.P.S provides the
support to loose the weight. It is your own personal commitment to

Special Events: a provincial recognition day, an area recognition
day, and rallies during the year. Awards are given to people who
lose their target weight.

Purpose: To bring women of diverse backgrounds and

Mission: In Canada and BC, Cerebral Palsy is the main charity
that the Pythian Sisters support. A $500 scholarship to a Charles
Bloom Secondary School graduating student is provided
annually. The Pythian Sisters also assist with help for individuals
in distress in the community.
Activities: The main activity is catering for various functions to
raise money. There are regional conventions that members attend.
An occasional garage sale raises money as well. New members
are welcome.

Description: The Lumby Curling Club is a 4-sheet facility that
operates in conjunction with the North Okanagan Regional
District. The club is regulated by a Board of Directors that are
elected from the general membership for a term of two years.
Regular business meetings are held. Routine tasks are handled by
volunteers. The facility has a lounge for 125 people and kitchen
facilities; these facilities are available to the public for various

Mission: To promote, encourage and develop an individual’s
capacity to achieve excellence and life skills through participation
in competitive aquatic activities.
Activities: The club offers both competitive and
non-competitive activities. Swimming is an excellent
cross-training activity to improve your winter and spring sports.
Fundraising: We fundraise to help keep registration fees at an
affordable price.

Fees: are from $135 to $195 for one season—insurance, pool time
and coaching included. Additional fees of $25 for swim meets.

This snowmobiling club operates between first of December to
mid-May (weather permitting)
AGM: April
Membership fees: $100/year, which gives members access to all
trails in the BC Snowmobile Association. The club has its own
trail groomer, which it uses on Park and Nelson, a couple

hundred kilometers of trails. The main trail is on Squaw Valley
and on Taylor Creek. The club also has its own chalet, which is
accessible to members and non-members, as a safety and social
shelter. It is operated in conjunction with the Cattlemen’s
Association. Members also collect firewood for the chalet.

Purpose: To promote local entrepreneurs, produce and fruits
from the farm gate, products that are handcrafted, grown, made,
raised, caught, wild-crafted or produced locally, and to showcase
local artisans, musicians, crafters and community based
enterprises.
Activities: A public market is held every Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm,
from May to October in the community park (beside the
swimming pool) on Glencaird and Norris
Adopt-A-Highway is supported; a bursary is given to an
accomplished Crossroads student.

Membership fees: $5 a year for all vendors. Stall rentals are $65
seasonal and $7 for a day. Food vendors must have Food Safe
certification and guidelines for products sold at an outdoor

Purpose: To teach soccer skills, team work, and commitment to
youth soccer players, ages 3-12, in a Semi-structured and fun
environment. Season runs from April to June utilizing the
Community Centre. The group for the 2 1/2 to 3 year olds is
parent participation.
