Organic Agromin Products Meet Your Landscaping Needs

If you run a business or own a multi-family complex, you know the importance of mak-ing a good fi rst impression. If your property

needs a fresh coat of paint, or your landscaping requires an extreme makeover, chances are you will lose potential customers or tenants.

Agromin Premium Soil Products can help – with your landscaping needs, that is.

You know all those grass clippings, tree branches and leaves that you place in your green waste container at home and, perhaps, at your business? Well, they go to good use. For the past 15 years, our trucks have transported them to Agromin, which uses cutting-edge technology to convert the green waste materials into organic mulches, compost, wood chips and other products that naturally fertilize plants and trees.

11th Carpinteria Triathlon to Test Skill & Endurance

Close to 1,000 superbly conditioned men and women from across Southern California and throughout the state will gather on Carpinteria

State Beach on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 28, for the 11th annual Carpinteria Triathlon.

E.J. Harrison and Sons supports this special event and encourages all to come out and cheer for these dedicated athletes of all ages as their endurance skills in swimming, bicycling and running are put to the test. The event begins at 7:30 a.m.

The Carpinteria Triathlon benefi ts the City of Carpinteria’s Parks and Recreation youth programs. Proceeds will help to provide scholarships and addi-tional equipment for programs such as After School at the Pool, Aqua Camp and Junior Lifeguards.

Contestants can choose between two courses from which to compete: The Olympic Course incorporates a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run; the Sprint Course is comprised of a .5K swim, 15K bike ride and 5K run.

The Carpinteria Beach, known as the “World’s Safest Beach” is very special, and has been rated the No. 1 swimming beach, due to its Southern exposure and its protection by the Channel islands. Swimmers usually enjoy small surf and the absence of riptides at this unique beach.

The bike course travels along the foothills, offering some spectacular ocean views. Both the Olympic and Sprint courses offer the competitor a challenging ride, although the Sprint course is also well suited for nov-ice triathletes. The course runs through Carpinteria neighborhoods and is mostly a fl at loop course.

Entry fees are $75 for the Sprint course, $95 for the Olympic course and $155 for relay teams (Olym-pic course only). Entry fees for competitors 16 and under are $45, $55 and $95, respectively. Fees for all race categories are an additional $15 after Sept. 12.

Entries are limited and may sell out. Registration information is available at www.carpinteriatriathlon.com. You also can receive entry forms online atwww.active.com.

Volunteers also are needed. For more information, call Ann Meyer at 684-5405, ext. 432, or email her at [email protected].

Bring Antifreeze, Batteries, Oil & Paint to ABOP

Throughout the year, Carpinteria residents and small businesses can

bring their antifreeze, batteries, mo-tor oil, oil fi lters and latex paint to the ABOP facility at the west side of City Hall on the second and fourth Satur-days of each month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Paint brought to the ABOP facility can be traded in for other used paints that have been dropped off.

Also, you can drop off used oil, oil fi lters and antifreeze at the City’s oil recycling facility at the east end of City Hall, Mondays through Fridays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The maximum amount allowed per visit is 15 gal-lons or 125 pounds.

For more informa-tion on recycling in Carpinteria, call 684-5405, ext. 445.

Buy Recycled PaperSeparating out recyclables from trash is

only part of recycling. Unless we buy recycled paper, there

will be no markets for the paper that is collected. The more recycled paper that is purchased, the less expensive it be-comes. Make sure your offi ce uses re-cycled paper.

Recycled paper can be requested through most paper distributors and used for all your paper needs — annual re-ports, stationery, busi-ness cards, advertising and direct mailings.

Don’t Throw Away E-Waste – Bring It to Gold Coast Recycling

Each year in California hundreds of thousands of computers, monitors, copiers, fax machines, printers, tele-

visions and other electronic items become “obsolete” in the eyes of consumers. Rapid advances in technology and an expanding demand for new features accelerate the gen-eration of “old” electronic equipment (“e-waste”).

But e-waste contains hazardous materials like lead and cadmium, thus it is illegal to dispose of e-waste in the trash. The result is a growing chal-lenge for residents and businesses as they search for ways to reuse, recycle or properly dispose of this equipment.

So, what do you do? It’s easy, really. If your old electronic devices are still functioning, donate or sell them to someone who can still use them.

If they cannot be repaired, bring your e-waste to the Gold Coast Recycling Center, 5275 Colt Street, Ventura, for free recycling. For more information call 642-9236.

It’s well worth the 20-minute drive down Highway 101 from Carpinteria. In Ventura, take the Victoria Avenue exit, and turn right onto Val-entine Road. Go 1/3 of a mile on Valentine,

then turn left on Sperry Ave. Sperry Avenue turns into Colt Street, and Gold Coast Recycling is right there at 5275 Colt.

Not only will you be clearing clutter from your home or offi ce, you will also be doing our environ-ment a big favor. For more information, call 642-9236.
