Section2ADMINISTRATIONAccreditationRedeemerLutheranSchoolmaintainsaccreditationthroughtheLutheranSchoolAccreditationCommissionwhichiscertifiedbytheTexasPrivateSchoolAccreditationCommissionandisrecognizedbytheCommissionerofEducationoftheTexasEducationAgencyinaccordancewithTexasAdministrativeCodeTitle19,PartII,Chapter97,SubchapterA,#97.7Non-PublicSchools.Additionally,RedeemerisalsoaccreditedbyNationalLutheranSchoolAccreditation(NLSA)andhasreceived“excellent”recommendationsformanyconsecutiveyears.BusTransportation–ConcordiaHighSchoolConcordiaHighSchoolprovidesbustransportationfromtheirRoundRockcampustoRedeemerbeforeschoolandbacktotheircampusafterschoolasaconvenienceforRedeemerparents.Ifyouareinterestedinlearningmoreaboutthisservice,contacttheConcordiaHighSchoolofficeat(512)248-2547.CancellationorDelayRedeemerfollowsallweatherrelateddelaysandclosuresissuedbytheAustinIndependentSchoolDistrict.TheinformationwillbeemailedtoparentsthroughRenWeb,postedonredeemerschool.net,andonParent’sWebatRenWeb.com.Iftheschooldistrictinwhichyouresidepostponesschoolduetoinclementweatherorhazardousdrivingconditions,youshouldfollowthatschooldistrict’sinformation.Yourchildwillnotbecountedasabsentifsuchinstancesoccur.Localtelevisionandradiostationsmaycarryannouncementstothiseffect.ChangeofFamilyInformationParentsareaskedtonotifytheschoolofficeimmediatelywhenachangeofaddress,phonenumber,and/oremailoccurs.Thisallowsourschooladministrationandteacherstokeepourrosterandmailinglistup-to-date.Also,parents/guardiansareaskedtonotifytheschoolofficeifthereisachangeoffamilyrelationship,health-relateditems,immunizations,sickness,etc.ChapelElementaryschoolchapelistypicallyheldonWednesdaymorningat8:15a.m.Thisserviceisledbyindividualgradelevelstudentsorstaffleaders(teachers,pastors,administrators)andisdesignedtoprovideanage-appropriateworshipopportunityforelementaryschoolstudents.Onceamonth,at9:00a.m.,AllSchoolChapeliscelebratedwithstudentsingradesK-8.Offeringsarecollectedeachweektosupportvariouslocalandnationalorganizations.Parentsareinvitedtoattendallchapelservices.ChildAbuseandNeglectReportingChildabuseandneglectarecomplexproblemsandarenotconfinedtoanyrace,social,economic,orreligiousgroup.Variousformsofabusemayoccur:physical,sexual,emotionalabuseandneglect.InaccordancewithTexasLaw,itmandatesthatschoolstaffreportreasonablesuspicionofphysicaloremotionalabuse,emotionaldeprivation,physicalneglect,inadequatesupervision,orsexualabuseandexploitation.Proceduresandguidelineswillbefollowed,asable,toensureprompt,professionaltreatmentofthereportedcase.

Ifyoususpectchildabusehasoccurredinourschool,tooneofourstudents,ortoanychildanywhere,call1-800-252-5400.ClassroomPlacementElementaryschoolstudentsareplacedinanenvironmentwheretheycanachieveacademicsuccessandbeassuredofaqualityChristianeducation.Theadministrationisentrustedwithmakingfinaldeterminationofclassroomplacementforeachchild.Thefinalplacementismadeafterconsiderationofacademicability,achievement,leadershipskills,classroomsize,boyandgirldistribution,behavior,studentpersonality,specialneeds,andotherpossiblefactors.Theteacher’sinputisinvaluableinunderstandingthechild.Norequestswillbeacceptedbyteachersoradministrationforstudentplacement.CounselingInsomeinstances,counselingservicesmayberecommendedthroughourschoolcounselor,teachers,ortheadministration.Referralsarealsogiventooutsideagenciesforstudentsneedingcounseling.Counselingquestionsshouldbedirectedtothechild’shomeroomteacherorschooladministration.CurriculumThecourseofstudyforelementaryschoolstudentsatRedeemerLutheranSchoolcomplieswiththestandardsoftheTexasDepartmentofEducationandtheTexasDistrictoftheLutheranChurch-MissouriSynod.OurFaithisactivelyintegratedineachcourseofstudyateachgradelevel.Theareasoflearningare: ChristianLiving:Biblestudy,memorywork,Christiandoctrine,stewardshipandworship; FineArts:Music,choir,andart;

HealthandDrugEducation:Sexeducation,nutrition,andotherareasprovidedthroughvariousclassroomactivities;LanguageArts:Readingskills,literature,writing,grammar,spelling,andhandwriting.Mathematics:Generalarithmeticinaddition,subtraction,multiplicationanddivision;PhysicalEducation:Motorskills,muscledevelopment,basicgames,andknowledgeofathletics;Science:Generalscienceaswellasscienceenrichment;SocialStudies:Home,community,History(TexasandUnitedStates),worldgeographyandcultures;Spanish:Basicvocablulary,grammarandliteracyisofferedtoallstudentsingradesK-5;Technology:Generalcomputerskillsandkeyboarding,MicrosoftWordandPowerpointPresentation,iPadappsforreinforcementandnewconcepts.

CustodyNotificationPleaseinformtheschoolofficeandteacher(s)concerninganyspecialparentalrightsandprivileges.Forthebenefitofthechild,acopyofthecourtorderedParentingPlanandanycourtorderedchangesormodificationsistobegiventotheschoolofficeforplacementinthechild’srecords.EmergencyDrills–Fire,Tornado,andLockdownFire,tornado,andschoollockdowndrillsarerequiredbystatelawandshouldbetakenseriously.Studentsareexpectedtocooperateandfollowteacherinstructions.Redeemerfollowsallstaterequirementsregardingthefrequencyofeachdrill.

EnrollmentEnrollmentbeginsduringthemonthofJanuaryforallRedeemerparentswhohavechildreneligibleforschoolre-enrollment.Parentsofallstudents,returningandnew,mustconfirmregistrationonlineduringtheCompletionofEnrollmenttimes.Registrationfeesarenon-refundableandmustbepaidinfulltoguaranteeaspaceforthecomingschoolyear.Newstudentsmaybeenrolledbyfollowingtheenrollmentproceduresfoundonthewebsite.Parentsofnewlyenrolledstudentsmustpaythecompletedepositwhentheysubmittheirapplication.EachchildmusthavehadallTexasDepartmentofHealthrequiredimmunizationsbeforebeingadmittedtoRedeemerLutheranSchoolorhaveasignedaffidavitonfile.ForKindergarten,achildmustbefive(5)yearsoldonorbeforeSeptember1.Achild,whosesixth(6th)birthdayoccursonorbeforeSeptember1,mayenterGrade1providedthechildhassuccessfullypassedKindergarten.FieldTripsTherearetimeswhereelementaryschoolstudentsgooffsiteforexperientiallearning.Someexamplesofthismayoccuratamuseum,afarm,oranorchestrahall.Theparent’spermissiontotakechildrenofftheschoolgroundsforaneducationallearningexperienceisrequired.Parentswillcompletethepermissionformonlineduringenrollment.Theair-conditionedRedeemerLutheranSchoolbuswillbeusedtotransportchildren.Driversofthebusshouldprovidethefollowing–acopyofcurrentCommercialDriver’sLicenseandmustbeapprovedbyourBusinessManager.Whenthebusisnotavailable,privatevehiclesareused.Driverswhoarewillingtotransportindividualsotherthanfamilymembersintheirpersonalvehiclemustbeaminimumof25yearsofageandprovidethefollowingdocumentationtotheschoolofficeatleasttwodayspriortothetrip:1)CopyofvalidDriver’sLicense,2)Copyoftheirinsurancepolicydemonstratingaminimumliabilitylimitof$100,000/$300,000bodilyinjuryand$100,000physicalpropertydamageonvehicleand3)acopyoftheirdriverrecord(Type2)forourapproval(availablefromDPSoratwww.texasonline.com,(requiredeverythreeyears).Anannualaffidavitstatingthedrivingrecordhasnotchangedmustbesignedifanewdrivingrecordisnotyetdue.ParentswillingtoactaschaperonesonfieldtripsarerequiredtocompleteaBackgroundCheckApplication.Parentchaperonesmaynotbringotherchildrenfromtheirfamilyalongonfieldtrips.Chaperonesareexpectedtogivetheirfullattentiontothesupervisionofstudentsintherespectiveclassattendingthefieldtrip.GradingScaleRedeemerLutheranSchoolissuesreportcardsfourtimesayearasindicatedonthecalendar.Gradesaregivenonapercentagegradescale.Thefollowinggradingsystemisused:E=94-100 S+=79-80 U=Anythingbelowa60G+=89-93 S=77-78G=84-88 S-=74-76G-=81-83 N=61-73

Thepercentageandlettergradeequivalentsareasfollows:100-90%=A89-80%=B79-75%=C74-70%=D69%andlower=FHomeworkHomeworkisrequiredwhennecessaryforthechild’sschoolprogress.Homeworkmayincludewritingreportsorreadingtextsorcurrentmaterialsforinformation.Wedonotwantachildtobeoverburdenedwithhomework.Webelieveeachstudentshouldhavefreetimeoutsideofschoolwork.Weencouragefamilyactivities,recreationalreading,freeplay,athletics,andotherpursuits.Ageneralhomeworkruleofthumbfollowsthisprinciple:astudentingrade1shouldhavenomorethan15minutes,astudentingrade2shouldhavenomorethan20minutes,astudentingrade3shouldhavenomorethan30minutes,astudentingrade4shouldhavenomorethan40minutes,andastudentingrade5shouldhavenomorethan50minutesofhomeworkonagivennight.Keepinmind,thisisaguideandmayvarydaytodayandstudenttostudent.Ifastudentisbringinghomealargeamountofwork,theparentshouldmakearrangementstospeakwiththeclassroomteacher.Ingrades3-5,consequencesforlateorincompletehomeworkareasfollows:Grade3 1Daylate–5%deductionandamessagehome

LibraryTheRedeemerLutheranSchoollibraryoffersawiderangeoffiction,non-fiction,referencematerials,andperiodicalsforalllevels.StudentsingradesK-5haveascheduledtimeeachweektovisitthelibrary.AstudentinKindergartenmaycheckoutonebookperweek.Studentsingrades1-3maycheckouttwobooksfortwoweeksandmayrecheckbooksforanadditionaltwoweeks.Finesbeginafteraoneweekgraceperiod.Thefineis10₵perdayperbook.Whenastudenthasafine,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtocheckoutabookuntilthefineispaid.Anylostbookwillresultinareplacementcostfine.Non-DiscriminationPolicyRedeemerLutheranSchooladmitsstudentsofanyrace,color,nationalandethnicorigintoalltherights,privileges,programs,andactivitiesgenerallyaccordedormadeavailabletostudentsattheschool.Itdoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofrace,color,disability,nationalandethnicorigininadministrationofitseducationalpolicies,enrollmentpolicies,athleticpolicies,andotherschool-administeredprograms.ParentConductRedeemerparentsunderstandandsupporttherulesandpoliciesofRedeemerLutheranSchool.Parentsunderstandthattheschoolwillnottolerateprofanity,obscenityinwordoraction,oranytypeofharassmentfromstudentsorparentsthataredeemeddisrespectfulorharmfultoRedeemer’sstafforstudents.Parentswhobehaveinthismannertowardsastudentorastaffmemberwillbeaskedtoleavethecampusandmaybebannedfromthecampus.Redeemerparentsexpectourchild(ren)tocomplywithschoolregulations.Parentswillwithdrawtheirchild(ren)oraccepttheschool’srighttodismissthemiftheparentisunabletosupportthesepolicies,procedures,andrules.Parent-TeacherandStudent-LedConferencesParent-teacherConferencestypicallyoccurattheendofthefirstgradingperiod.ScheduleswillbearrangedfortheseconferencesandparentswillregisterforatimeslotonlinethroughSign-UpGenius.Theobjectivesofthisconferenceareto:

1. Promoteunderstandinginthehome/schoolrelationship;2. Strengthenthemutualinterestoftheparentandteacherinthechild’swelfare;3. Givetheparentinformationaboutthechild’sprogress;4. Assisttheparentandteacherinfindingwaystoworktogetherforthegoodofthechild.

Parentsareaskedtolimittheconversationtonomorethanfifteenminutes.Ifmoretimeisneeded,aseparateconferencetimemaybemade.InFebruary,aStudent-ledconferenceoccurs.Eachstudentmeetstogetherwithaparentandhomeroomteachertoshareandreflectonsuchthingsastheirstrengths,areasneedingimprovement,academicjoysandfrustrations,andsettinggoalsfortheremainderoftheschoolyear.Conferencesarelimitedtofifteenminutes.

Parent-TeacherLeague(PTL)Thepurposeofthegroupistohelpthehomeandschoolworktogetherforthewelfareofthestudents.Additionally,thePTLprovidesfundraisingprojectsandfamilyactivitiestoenhanceourschoolministry.Parentsareaskedtohelpdirectthisgroupbyservingasanofficerofthegroupeitherbyvolunteeringorwhenasked.Thisorganizationchargesnodues,butitneedsthesupportofallparentsandteachersthroughtheirwillingnesstodotheirpart.ParticipationinSchoolSponsoredActivitiesElementaryschoolstudentsareencouragedandexpectedtoparticipateinschoolsponsoredactivitiessuchaschoirandclassevents.Theseeventsarepartofregularschoolprogram.Studentshavechoicesofmanyactivitiestoutilizeindividualtalents.Athletics(Grade5),choir,worshipservices,SpellingBee,PrivateSchoolsInterscholasticAssociation(PSIA)areexamplesofeventsandorganizationswhichareanimportantpartofoureducationalprogram.Excusesfromtheseeventsshouldbemadetotheteacherortothepersoninchargeoftheevent.PartnershipwithParentsThestaffofRedeemerLutheranSchoolstrivestoofferanexcellentChristianeducationtothestudentsentrustedinourcare.Eachstudentreceivessupport,encouragement,andinstructiontoliveoutthemissionofLovingJesus,LovingLearning,andLovingOthers.Theeducationalprogramoffersabalanced,comprehensivecurriculumthatstrivestopreparestudentsforsuccessnowandinthefuture.Redeemerprovidesasensitive,relational,caring,andsupportivelearningenvironment,whichaidsstudentsindevelopingpositiveself-esteemandself-worth.ThehomeisandalwayswillbethechiefagencyfortheChristianupbringingofthechild.OurschooldoesnotservetorelieveparentsoftheirGod-givenobligationandresponsibility.However,RedeemerLutheranSchoolexiststowalkalongsideparentsinthejourneytoraisetheirchildinamannerthatpleasesourLord,JesusChrist.Intheeventthatachild’sfamilydoesnothaveapersonalrelationshipwithJesus,itisourdutyandobligationtoprovideanopen,lovingrelationshipandaChristianwitnesstothechildandparents.TheteachersandstaffleadershiparereadytoassistfamiliesastheybegintotakethefirststepsofmeetingandwalkingwithJesus.Policy(Governance)ManualTheschool’soperatingpoliciesarecompiledinahandbookandareavailableuponrequest.TheSchoolBoardassiststheprincipalinevaluatingandrevisingpoliciesasneeded.PoliciesNotCoveredAnyschoolorclassroomprocedurenotspecificallydiscussedinthishandbookshallbelefttothediscretionoftheteachersand/oradministration.PromotionElementarystudentsarepromotedattheendofeachschoolyear.Ifpromotionisinquestion,aspecialconsultationwillbeheldwithteacherandparentstodiscussthesituation.Inconsideringpromotion,theteacherwillalwayshaveinmindwhatisbestforthechild.WeknowthatChristianprinciplesandlovewillpresideoverthisdecision.

Studentsmayfailonesubject,otherthanlanguageartsormathematics,andpasswithanoverallpassinggradeinthecoresubjects.Ifastudentfailstwo(2)subjects,orifthestudenthasafailinggradeinlanguageartsormathematics,thenthestudentwillneedtosuccessfullycompletesummerschoolandverificationmustbegiventotheschoolofficebeforepromotionwillbegiven.Excessiveabsenteeismmayalsoaffectacademicpromotion.QuestionsorConcerns/GrievancePolicyInfollowingtheprinciplesofMatthew18,teachersandadministratorsarecommittedtocontactingparentswithin24hoursofaconcern.Parentswithquestionsandconcernsareencouragedtofollowthissameprinciple.Weaskthatthefollowingstepsbefollowedwithconcerns:

1. Voicetheconcernorgrievanceinpersontotheindividualinquestion.2. If,afterthispersonalconference,thepersonfeelsthattheproblemhasnotbeenresolved,

he/sheshalldiscussthematterwiththePrincipal.ThePrincipalmay,inherdiscretion,requestthattheconcernorgrievancebeputinwrittenformattofurtherfollow-upbythePrincipal.

3. IfthismatterhasnotbeenresolvedwiththePrincipal,thePrincipalshallforwardthewrittencomplainttotheSeniorPastor,andthepersonmayspeaktotheSeniorPastor.

Ifthematterisnotresolved,thewrittencomplaintshallbeforwardedtotheSchoolBoardChairman.TheSchoolBoardChairmanwillmeetwiththepersoninatimelymanner.TheChairmancantakethemattertotheSchoolBoardathis/herdiscretion.Theparentwillbeinformedwithin72hoursofadecisionrelatedtothatmatter.TheSchoolBoardChairman’sdecisionisfinal,andthematteristhenclosed.

ReportCardsHardcopiesofstudentreportcardsareissuedattheendofthefirstandfourthquarteroftheschoolyear.Throughouttheyear,parentsandstudentsshouldreviewRenWebfrequentlytomonitoracademicprogress.QuartergradesaregivenandpostedthroughRenWeb.SchoolHoursElementaryschoolhoursare8:00a.m.until3:15p.m.Studentsareallowedtogointotheirclassroomsbeginningat7:50a.m.andmaystayafterschooluntil3:30p.m.After3:30p.m.,studentswillneedtoberegisteredforExtendedCare.SearchandSeizureSchoolsmayconductreasonablesearchesthataremotivatedbyreasonablesuspicion;suchsearchmaybetargetedtowardaspecificstudentorgroupofstudents.Schoolofficialsmaysearchdesksorcubbies.Theschoolofficials,too,maysearchstudentclothingandbookbagif“reasonablesuspicion”exists.SolicitandSellingIntheinterestineliminatingwhatmaybecomeaschoolnuisance,nosolicitingorsellingofanykindofproductisallowedduringtheschooldayunlesspreviouslyapprovedbytheprincipal.StandardizedTestsStandardizedtestsareadministeredannually.Resultsofthetestingprogramhelpdetermineapossiblemodificationincurriculumandinstructiontechniquesaswellashaveanothergaugetobetter

SECTION6:FOODATREDEEMERHotLunchProgramRedeemerLutheranSchoolstudentsenjoythemealsprovidedbyL&LCatering inAustin.L&LCateringprovidesschoollunchesforprivateschoolsintheGreaterAustinArea.Theyoffermanyoptionsandworkwith the school staff and administration to create balanced meal plans. They have the backing ofnutritionist-inspiredrecipesthatarekid-friendly,balancedandnutritious.L&Lpridesitselfonusingfreshproducepurchasedatlocalfarmer’smarketsandusingwholesome,non-processedingredients,suchaschickenbreasts.Mostoftheirdishesaremadebyhand,fromscratch.The2017-18priceforlunchisbasedongradelevel.Kindergartenis$4.50.1st-4thGradeis$5.25,and5thgrade is $5.75. It is preferred that student lunches be ordered monthly. SECTION7:HEALTHSERVICESDisease/IllnessRedeemerLutheranSchoolstrivestoguardthehealthofallstudents.Tohelpminimizethespreadingofdisease,achildshowingsignsofillness(sorethroat,lowgradefever,rash,etc.)shouldbekepthomeuntiltheconditioniscorrected.Thesameappliestochildrenwithaseverecoldorcough.Childrenwhodonotfeelwellathomebeforeschoolarerequestedtostayhomefortheentireschoolday.Studentswhovomitoverthenightormorningshouldnotattendschool.Studentsmustbefever-freefor24hoursbeforereturningtoschool.Ifachildbecomesillatschool,thechildwillbetakentotheschoolnurseforinitialisolationandevaluation.Parentswillbecalledtopickuptheirchildforthefollowingconditions:feverof100.4orgreater(orally),vomiting, diarrhea, chicken pox, pink eye, untreated head lice and ringworm, impetigo, and othersuspectedcommunicablediseaseaslistedintheTexasDepartmentofHealthchart.Whenreturningtoschoolfromacontagiousdiseaseorillness,adoctor’spermissiontoreturntoschoolisstronglyencouraged.FirstAidandInjuryRedeemerenjoystheblessingofaschoolnurseoncampusduringschoolhours.Thenursewilladministerfirstaidincasesofminorinjuries(cuts,scrapes,bruises).Seriousorquestionableinjurieswillbereferredtotheparent(s)immediately.EMSandthechild’sparent(s)willbecalledforlifethreateninginjuriesorillnesses.ImmunizationStatelawprescribescertainimmunizationsbegivenatvariousages.WhenachildisenrolledatRedeemer,theirparentsmustshowthatthechildhasbeenimmunizedorthatacurrentmedicalorreligiousobjectionisonfile.Parentsarerequestedtoprovidetheschoolwithcompletedimmunizationrecordspriortothebeginningoftheschoolyear.MedicalScreeningsRedeemer Lutheran School provides the following required medical screenings for middle schoolstudents:Vision and Hearing Screening – Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 3, and Grade 5 and new students toRedeemerwillhaveavisionandhearingscreeningdonebyournursesatnocost.ScoliosisScreening–StudentsinGrade5willreceiveascoliosisscreeningatnocost.Anystudentwhodoesnotmeettheminimumstandardsonanyoftheabovescreeningswillberequiredtobeevaluatedbyaprofessionalandsubmitthesignedverificationtotheoffice.If parents prefer these screenings bedoneby the child’s physician,we ask that awritten and signedverificationbythedoctorbesubmittedtotheoffice.

MedicationAdministrationTexaslawrequiresthatmedicationbeadministeredbytheschoolnurseordesignee.Studentsshouldnotbeinpossessionofanymedication.Thefollowingguidelinesmustbefollowed:

SECTION8:MUSICChoirsChoirrehearsalstakeplaceonceaweekforstudentsingradesK-5.Choirsareseparatedintothreegroups:Kindergarten/Grade1,Grades2and3,andGrades4and5(JVChoir).Rehearsalsfocusonvocaltechnique,listening,andlearningtosinginparts.Thechoirsperforminaconcertattheendofeachsemester.ThechoirsfrequentlysingatscheduledSundayworshipservices.Singing inRedeemerworshipservices isawaywehonorandpraiseGodalongwithgivingbacktothechurchfamilywhosupportsusfinanciallyandinprayer.Theeffortsofthestudentsanddirectorarebestrepresented and appreciated when the entire choir is present. When school choirs are part of theRedeemerworshipservice,Redeemerchurchmemberchildrenareexpectedtoattendandchildrenwhohaveotherchurchhomesarestronglyencouragedandinvitedtoparticipate.ClassroomMusicElementarystudentsattendmusicclassesonetimeeachweek.Theylearntheconceptsofmusicthroughsinging,moving,listeningandplayinginstruments.ThesekeyconceptsaretaughtthroughinstructionintheOrffandKodalyapproaches.Classesshowcasetheirworkduringeveningperformanceswhichtakeplaceacoupleoftimeseachyear.Studentsalsolearntoreadandcomposemusic.Variouscomposersstylesofmusicarestudied.

SECTION9:STUDENTBEHAVIOREXPECTATIONSAtRedeemerLutheranSchool,wedonotthinkoftheterm“discipline”asmeaningpunishment,butratherastheteachingofself-control,Christianattitudes,orderliness,efficiency,andresponsibility.Therefore,ourteacherswilldealwithstudentsinaccordancewiththeteachingsandphilosophiesofChristJesus.Theteacherswilltolerateactionsacceptableforcertainareasofgrowth,redirectnegativeactionswherenecessary,andfinally,stopanyunacceptablebehaviorsthatinterferewiththelearningprocessofothers.Studentswillbeledtounderstandthatforhappyliving,itisnecessarytoloveourLordfirst,toloveoneanotherasbrothersandsistersinChrist,andtoserveandrespectoneanother’srightsandprivileges.Theteacher,guidedbyGod’sWord,accomplishestheenforcementofdiscipline.Ourteacherswilltakemeasuresintheclassroomtoensurethattheatmosphereremainspositiveandeducational.Iftheteachercannot obtain acceptable conduct and cooperation froma student, then the teacherwill report suchdisobediencetotheparentsofthestudent.Themost importantoutgrowthofadisciplineplan is theunderstanding thatboth theparentand theteacherhaveamutualinterest–thesuccessofthechild.Anongoingcommunicationlinkbetweentheparentandteachercanhelpguidethestudentthroughasuccessfulschoolyear.ScriptureshapesandsupportsourSchoolDisciplineGuidelines.BelowareBibleversesuponwhichtheseguidelinesarebuilt.Colossians 3:12 – Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves withcompassion,kindness,humility,gentleness,andpatience.Hebrews12:7-11–Endurehardshipasdiscipline;GodistreatingyouasHischildren.Forwhatchildrenarenotdisciplinedbytheirfather?Ifyouarenotdisciplined–andeveryoneundergoesdiscipline–thenyouarenotlegitimate,nottruesonsanddaughtersatall.Moreover,wehaveallhadhumanfatherswhodisciplinedusandwerespectedthemforit.HowmuchmoreshouldwesubmittotheFatherofspiritsandlive!Theydisciplinedusforalittlewhileastheythoughtbest;butGoddisciplinesusforourgood,inorderthatwemayshareinhisholiness.Nodisciplineseemspleasantatanytime,butpainful.Lateron,however,itproducesaharvestofrighteousnessandpeaceforthosewhohavebeentrainedinit.Romans12:2–Donotconformtothepatternsofthisworld,butbetransformedbytherenewingofyourmind.ThenyouwillbeabletotestandapprovewhatGod’swillis–hisgood,pleasingandperfectwill.Philippians 4:8– Finally, brothers and sisters,whatever is true,whatever is noble,whatever is right,whateverispure,whateverislovely,whateverisadmirable–ifanythingisexcellentorpraiseworthy–thinkaboutsuchthings.AttendanceRegular attendance is a vital factor in any student’s academic progress. AbsencesSchooladministrationrecordsstudentattendancepatternsthroughouttheschoolyear,notingfull-dayandpartialdayabsences,aswellasanylatearrivals(tardy)orearlydeparture.Suchinformationwillberecordedonstudents’officialattendancerecords.School administration shall assume leadership for all matters relating to school attendance. As theschool’s“attendanceofficer”,theassistantprincipalisobligatedtoreportonandfollow-uponsuspectedcases of habitually absent, tardy, or truant students. Such administrative actionwill be based on theavailableevidenceandfactsforeachindividualcase.Ahighabsenteeismratewillresultinadministrativeactionthroughtheschooloffice.Studentsmustbeinattendanceatleast90%ofthedayseachsemestertoreceivecreditfortheschoolyear.Lessthan90%attendancemayresult inthestudentnotbeingpromotedtothenextgradelevel.Parents may appeal this decision by following the Appeals Process that considers extenuatingcircumstancesandwhetherthestudentcompletedmissedwork.Ifastudentarrivesmorethanone(1)hourlateorleavesformorethanone(1)hourduringeitherthemorningor afternoon, he/shewill be counted absent for one-half day.Exceptionwouldbe awrittenmemofromadentistordoctorwhenthechild’sappointmentwasscheduledduringregularschoolhours.Doctor’sAppointmentsIfadoctor’sappointmentisscheduledduringtheschoolday,weencourageparentstoscheduleitatthebeginningorendofaschoolday.Anoteshouldbeobtainedfromthedoctor’sofficeandsubmittedtotheschoolofficeuponthestudent’sreturn,orthefollowingmorning.Make-upAssignmentsandTestsAstudentwhowasabsentwillbeallowedonedayforeachdayabsentplusoneextradaytomakeupworkandtests.Make-upworkforpre-plannedabsencesmustideallyberequestedatleastoneweekinadvanceoftheabsence.Make-upworkforpre-plannedabsencesisdueonthedaythestudentreturnstoschool.TardinessStudentsareexpectedtobe intheirclassroomsby8:00a.m. Ifastudentarrivesafterthestartoftheschoolday,he/shewillbecountedtardy;or,ifastudentmissesone(1)hourorlessfromanypartofaschoolday,itwillbecountedasatardy.Inorderforastudenttoreceiveafullday’scredit,he/shemustbepresenttheentireday.Five(5)tardiesequalone(1)absencepernine(9)weeks.Anotemustbesentwiththestudentexplainingwhythestudentwaslateortheparentmustsignthestudentintotheoffice.Onsevereweatherdayordayswhen thereare serious trafficproblems,asdeterminedby theschooladministration,nostudentswillbecountedtardy.Ifastudentischronicallytardyinspiteofthehomeroomteacher’seffortsatcorrection,thestudentwillbereportedtotheadministrationwhowillconferwiththeparents inaneffort tocorrect thematter.Everytardywillberecordedonastudent’sreportcard.TruantorUnexcusedAbsencesStudents must have written or verbal permission of a parent or legal guardian to leave school.Accumulatedunexcusedabsencesortruancywillresultinadministrativeaction.

VacationsWeunderstandthatlearningisnotsolelyconfinedtotheclassroom.Absencefromschoolforsometypesof vacationsoffers unique cultural advantages for the student.However, any extendedabsence fromschoolmayleadtoacademiclosstotheabsentee.Thislossismuchgreaterwithsomestudentsthanwithothers, so vacation absencesmust be treated with attention to the needs of the individual student.FamiliesareencouragedtousethetimesRedeemerhasdaysoffofschoolforvacations.However,shouldextendedvacationsoccurduringtheschoolyear,parentsmustassumefullresponsibilityfortheacademicprogress of their children. The student must get all assignments they will miss on vacation and theassignmentsneedtobeturnedinthedaytheyreturnfromthevacation.BullyingRedeemerLutheranSchool iscommittedtoprovidinga learningandworkingenvironmentthat is freefrombullying.TheatmosphereatRedeemershouldbesuchthatall individualsandgroupsaretreatedwithrespectanddignity. It shallbeaviolationof thispolicy foraRedeemerstaffmember,volunteer,parent, or student to bully another person physically, verbally, or relationally. Redeemer will takepreventative steps to discourage bullying from occurring. The schoolwill treat allegations of bullyingseriouslyandwillreviewandinvestigatesuchallegationsinaprompt,confidential,andthoroughmanner.A charge of bullying shall not, in and of itself, create the presumption of wrongdoing. However,substantiatedactsofbullyingwillresultindisciplinaryactionbeingbroughtagainsttheallegedbully.Definitions

ResponsibilitiesAllfaculty,staff,students,andparentswillbeissuedthemostcurrentversionofthispolicywithinthefirstthirty(30)daysofthenewschoolyear.MembersoftheRedeemerfamilyareexpectedto:

1. ConductthemselvesinwaysthatcontributetothepositiveenvironmentatRedeemer.2. AvoidactivitiesthatmaybeconsideredbullyingasdefinedbytheStateofTexas.3. Immediately inform people engaged in bullying activity that their behavior is offensive and

unwelcomeatRedeemer.4. Reportallincidentsofbullying,regardlessoftheageorpositionoftheallegedbully,topeoplein

positionsofauthorityatRedeemer.5. Partnerwithothers toprovidea systemof communicationand support forpositivebehavior,

valuingdifferencesandpromotingsensitivitytoothers.6. Immediatelystopbehaviorthatisdeterminedorperceivedtobebullying.

PreventativeAction1. Teachers will establish classroom practices and integrate elements into the curriculum

intentionallydesignedtocreateanenvironmentfreefrombullying.2. Staff members will monitor situations and conditions where bullying is more likely to occur,

includinglunchbreaks,recess,andclassroomexchanges.3. Staffmemberswillmonitorpersistentcasesofallegedbullying,maintainingconfidentialityand

sensitivitytowardthesituation.4. All members of the Redeemer family will be encouraged to accept and embrace diversity,

demonstratingsensitivitytoothers.5. TeacherswillvisuallydisplayremindersofRedeemer’scommitmenttomaintainingabully-free

environment(i.e.banners,signs,posters,etc.).6. The policy administrator in conjunctionwith the School Boardwill develop and implement a

bullyingpreventionplan.7. Thepolicyadministratorwilleffectivelycommunicatethebullyingpreventionplan.

ResponsiveActions

1. Thosewhobelievetheyhavebeensubjectedtobullyingshouldreporttheincidenttothepolicyadministrator.Studentsmayreporttheincidenttoanyadultorstaffmemberwithwhomtheyfeelcomfortablediscussingthesituation.Theadultshalldocumentandreporttheincidenttothepolicyadministrator.

2. Staffmembersshallinvestigateallegationsofbullyingpromptlyandthoroughly,maintainingstrictconfidentiality.Thepolicyadministratorshallbeinformedofallbullyinginvestigationsandmaybeincludedintheprocessifnecessary.

3. Staff members shall determine and/or substantiate allegations of bullying by interviewingbystandersasappropriate.

4. Upondeterminingand/orsubstantiatingbullyingbehaviorsasdefinedbytheStateofTexas,thepolicyadministratorwillinformthepersonconductingthebullyingthatthebehaviorisoffensiveand unwelcome at Redeemer and must stop immediately. The policy administrator shalldocument the incidentanddetermineanappropriate consequence.Repeatoffendersmaybesubjecttosuspension/expulsion.

5. The policy administrator shall notify the complainant, the alleged bully, and their parents (ifapplicable)whentheinvestigationiscomplete,informingallindividualsinvolvedofthefindingsoftheinvestigationandrecommendedcourseofaction.

RetaliationRetaliationagainstanypersonwhoreportsallegedbullyingbehaviorsorassistswithaninvestigationwillnot be tolerated. Retaliation includes, but is not limited to, any form of intimidation, reprisals, orharassment.FalseAllegationsFalseallegationsintentionallyleviedagainstanotherindividualwillnotbetolerated.CafeteriaBehaviorExpectationsElementary school teacherswill provide supervision for students eating in the cafeteria. CellPhoneUseCellphonesarenottobeusedbystudentsbetweenthehoursof7:45a.m.and3:30p.m.Theyarealsonotallowedinbeforeandafterschoolcare.Phoneswillbeconfiscatedandreturnedattheendofthenextschooldayfora$25fee(donatedtothemonthlychapelofferings).DamagesandVandalismAllof thematerials,equipment, facilities,etc.,belong to themembersofRedeemerLutheranChurch.Misuseorabuseofthesefacilitiescreatesagreaterexpenseinmaintenanceandupkeepforeveryone.Thisexpenseiseventuallypassedalongtotheowners(parents).Itisourdesirethatafeelingofownershipwoulddevelopwhereallofthestudentswouldtakeagreaterprideintheirschoolandtreatthesefacilitiesandmaterialswithgreatrespectandcare.Anyunnecessaryhardusageordamagetobooks,tables,chairs,oranyschoolpropertyorequipmentwillnotbetolerated.Replacementorrepairofanyitemandthecostoflaborapplicableistheresponsibilityoftheparentand/orchild.Theprincipalinconsultationwiththeteacherwillmakejudgmentonallsuchmatters.Failuretopayfordamagemayresultinsuspensionfromschool. Step3:Ifthismatterhasnotbeenresolvedwithprincipal,theprincipalshallforwardthewrittencomplainttotheSeniorPastor,andthepersonmayspeaktotheSeniorPastor.

Step4:Ifthematterisstillnotresolved,thewrittencomplaintshallbeforwardedtotheSchoolBoardChairman.TheSchoolBoardChairmanwillmeetwiththepersoninatimelymanner.TheChairmancantakethemattertotheschoolboardathis/herdiscretionParentwillthenbeinformedwithin72hoursofadecisionrelatedtothatmatter.TheSchoolBoardChairman’sdecisionisfinal,andthematteristhenclosed.

DrugTestingRedeemerLutheranSchoolstrivestoprovideanenvironmentfreeofdrugs,includingalcoholandtobacco.Thereis,therefore,anemphasisonpreventinguseofthesematerialsbyprovidingaccurateinformationabout them to students and parents. Any student involved in the use, sale, or distribution of drugs(includingalcoholand tobacco)oncampus,orat school sponsored functions, is subject tooneof thefollowing:

1.Suspensionwithprofessionalcounselingrequiredbeforereadmissioncanbeconsidered.2.Expulsion

Electronic technology includesdevices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablet, as well as communication toolsincludingsocialmediasites,textmessages,chat,andwebsites.Examplesmayincludemeantextmessagesor emails, rumor sent by email or posted on social network sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos,websites,orfakeprofiles.Punishmentmayvaryallthewayuptoanexpulsion.NuisanceItemsItemsbroughttoschoolthatarenotpartofthenecessaryorrequiredschoolsuppliesormaterialmaybeconsidereda“nuisance”andmaybeconfiscatedbytheteacherifusedatinappropriatetimes.Studentsarestronglydiscouragedfrombringingtoschoolitemsofsignificantvalue.WeaponsStudents possessing items which may pose a danger to students and staff (guns, knives, matches,fireworks,etc.)willbereferredtoadministration.Consequencesmayincludesuspensionorexpulsion.

SECTION10:STUDENTSERVICESThestudentpopulationofRedeemerisbecomingincreasinglydiverse,especiallyintheareaofacademicperformance. Redeemerprovidesassistanceforthesestudentsbasedonteacherrecommendations.ThenumberofstudentsislimitedtoallowthestudentswhoneedthishelptoreceiveadequatetimewithourReadingInterventionist.

Section504PlanSection 504 Plans are awarded to some students whomay have physical disabilities or a diagnosedlearningdisability. 504s are similar to ISP’s in that individualmodifications andgoals aredetermined,implemented,andmonitored.Onemajordifferenceisthatpublicschoolpersonnelarenotinvolvedwith504s.504sarethesoleresponsibilityofRedeemer’sstaff.

SECTION11:TECHNOLOGYInternetAcceptableUseRedeemerLutheranSchoolispleasedtoofferstudentsaccesstotheInternet.TheInternetisanessentialtool for our current society. It helps students and teachers communicate and collaboratewith otherindividualsandgroupsaroundtheworld,andsignificantlyexpandstheiravailableinformationbase.TheInternetisatoolforlifelearning.FamiliesshouldbeawarethatsomematerialaccessibleviatheInternetmightcontainsomeitemsthatareillegal,defamatory,inaccurate,orpotentiallyharmful.Inaddition,itispossibletopurchasecertaingoods or services via the Internet, which could result in unwanted financial obligations for which astudent’s parent/guardianwould be liable.We as Christians need to guard against improper use andinsteadbewitnessestoshareourfaithbyproperuseoftheseresources.WhileitisRedeemer’sintenttomakeInternetaccessavailableinordertofurthereducationalgoalsandobjectives,studentsmayfindwaystoaccessothermaterialsaswell.EventhoughRedeemerinstitutestechnicalmethodsorsystemstoregulatestudents’ Internetaccess, thosemethodswillnotguaranteecompliancewithRedeemer’sInternetAcceptableUsePolicy.Thatnotwithstanding,RedeemerbelievesthatthebenefitstostudentsofaccesstotheInternetexceedthedisadvantages.Ultimately,however,parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that theirchildrenshould followwhenusingmediaand informational sources.TeachersatRedeemerwill guidestudentstoChristianstandardsinInternetusage.ThestudentandhisorherparentmustsignourInternetAcceptableUseAgreementandiPadContractpriortousingtheInternetresourceintheschool.ThisdocumentwillbekeptonfileatRedeemerLutheranSchool.SafetyFirstWhenOnline
