Fronditha Care – formerly called the Australian Greek Society for Care of the

Elderly – is a charitable, community based organization providing services to

Australian elders of Greek speaking background. Fronditha has been in existence

since 1976 and enjoys broad support from the Greek Community. To date it is

the only organization providing a range of residential and support services to

the Greek speaking elderly in Victoria. Fronditha Care exists because it believes

that maintaining cultural identity is critical to the well being of all persons.

Fronditha Care is a not-for-profit community based organisation providing

care and support to Greek elders and other cultural backgrounds in Victoria

and New South Wales. We aim to ensure that Greek speaking elderly are

able to live in a residential facility or remain at home and be supported by an

agency which shares their language, history, religious values, attitudes, rituals,

celebrations, music and food. In particular, in meeting this need it requires us

to strive and recruit the best staff. It is for these important reasons that we

submitted the application for a Labour Agreement to the Department of

Immigration and Border Protections, to support and recruit Greek speaking staff

members, as well as recruiting more in the future.

On the 1st August 2014 the Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border

Protection announced the commencement of a Labour Agreement between

the Australian Government and Fronditha Care enabling it to nominate Greek

speaking people to work for the organisation as a Personal Care Worker on a

457 Visa. This is the first of its kind within the Aged Care industry and will be

instrumental in helping Fronditha Care hire more Greek speaking Personal Care

Workers. “Fronditha Care is an example of the importance of nurturing cultural

identity in a supportive environment, as an integral part of maintaining well

being into older age” Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash said.

PERSONAL CARE WORKERS provide nursing support, assistance and direct care

to residents and clients in a variety of health, welfare and community setting.

The Labour Agreement is now in effect and enables Fronditha Care to

nominate and sponsor 20 vocationally trained Personal Care workers who

meet IELTS criteria for every year of the operation.

Candidates should hold:

- CERT III in Aged Care

- IELTS 5.0 in each of the four test components

- Clear Criminal Records from the country of Origin

It will certainly be a whole new experience for you and your family. The

prosperity index 2012 showed that Australia is the fourth happiest country in the

world and there are five of the 30 best cities in the world. For the fourth year

in a row, Melbourne was again crowned the world’s most liveable city. It has so

much to offer and has a vibrant lifestyle.

In Australia, international students can find many types of accommodation

such as “homestay”, “Shared – accommodation”, “Rental Properties”. If you are

migrating to Australia for a long time and you are keen to have your own

privacy, you can rent an apartment or house in your own name through a real

estate agency. This is the most expensive option as the prices vary from $200-

$400 per week. There are plenty of Real Estate agencies with Greek Speaking

employees who can assist you find your own place to live.

Greeks in Australia

It is well known that Melbourne has the largest Greek population in the world

after Athens and Thessaloniki, the two major cities of Greece. There are many

suburbs and neighbourhoods with a very strong Greek dominant influence and

you will often come across Greek restaurants or even Greek people sitting on

the same seat with you in the tram.

Greek Australians have established strong relationships and peak bodies with

local and national Government and Communities. The Greek Orthodox

Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV) was established nearly

120 years ago in 1897 for the purpose of linking Greeks together and

enhancing cultural diversity by promoting our rich history to the residents of

Victoria. The Organisation has walked a long way and it is now the second

oldest Greek organisation of the diaspora after the Greek Community of

Alexandria – Egypt. GOCMV is responsible for five churches predominantly

located within the inner suburbs of Melbourne and that gives the

opportunity to thousands of parishioners to get spiritually and religiously

served by their local Church.

Established nearly 30 years ago to promote and strengthen the economic

and cultural ties between Australia and Greece the Hellenic Australian

Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HACCI) links businesses amongst

each other and with different Government departments. .

Greek Media outlets in Australia give you the opportunity in having the

news in Greek and to be completely updated on a variety of issues which

include, but are not limited to, entertainment, politics, economy, business,

sport and lifestyle.

Greek Schools in Australia have come a long way and they strive to create

quality learning outcomes and enhancing opportunities for every student to

reach their full potential. Having the Greek element strongly incorporated

into the Australian society will provide your child with a sense of belonging

to the wider community.
