has been excellent and its been that way
for years. He particularly appreciates the
personal care and the fast and reliable ser-
vice. So far maintenance and repair of the
machines and replacement of the wear-out
parts has always run smoothly. Production
manager Hellmann adds, And if ever we
had any special requests or needed a spe-
cial solution, we always found a listening
ear at HEDELIUS. Not only the service
quality but also the price/performance ratio
has been a decisive factor. The HEDE-
LIUS machines have minimum tolerances,
high-powered motors and a correspond-
ingly high machining output. Based on this
they are very reasonably priced machines.
Hugo Vogelsang Maschinenbau GmbH is a global player with enormous innovative strength. The family-owned company has relied on vertical CNC machining centres by HEDELIUS for the production of its cutting-edge spreading and waste disposal technology since 1995.
When Hugo Vogelsang senior produced
the first wooden barrel for liquid manure in
his saw mill in 1929, he surely never im-
agined the rapid development that awaited
his company. The small-scale workshop
had already produced 20,000 wooden bar-
rels by 1954 - an exceptional production
output in those days. A little later, Helmut
Vogelsang, son of the companys founder,
developed a mobile pump for viscous
media: the elastomer-coated rotary piston
pump. This pump technology is still at the
very heart of Vogelsangs work.
At the companys headquarters in Es-
sen (Oldenburg), engineers continuously
develop new products for spreading and
waste disposal technology. They are used
in the agricultural sector, for biogas plants
and oil production. And not only there: for
some years Vogelsang has been Europes
largest supplier of waste water and waste
disposal technology for Germanys railway
company Deutsche Bahn.
Large range of machining facilities and equipmentAs the company expanded, so did the
requirements on production. Now Vogel-
sang manufactures almost all its products
entirely in-house in order to guarantee
optimum quality and short delivery times.
Walter Hellmann explains, We have a
very high vertical range of manufacture.
This means that we make virtually every-
thing ourselves. The company has relied
for over fifteen years on moving column
machining centres by HEDELIUS when
processing cast stainless steel, grey cast
iron and steel.
The HEDELIUS machines have two
working areas that we can use in parallel.
Thats perfect for our purposes, is how the
production manager sums up the increase
in efficiency gained due to the pendulum
process. Vogelsangs production halls are
already home to fourteen such CNC ma-
chines including three-axis and four-axis
machining centres.

tres with travel paths of 2500 and 3500 mm
were commissioned in the prefabrication
section. Volker Perk, Manager Mechanical
Production, says the reason for this invest-
ment was, We wanted to continue our
development in terms of quality.
The three new HEDELIUS machining cen-
tres are fitted in the factory with a rotary
trunnion table. This enables multi-sided
machining on a total of three axes if neces-
sary. Pendulum operation is also possible
due to the installation of a divider plate.
The magazine of the BC 100 can be loaded
with 30 tools which are used at Krone for
machining a wide range of materials such
as cast iron or even Hardox.
Small external dimensionsMany companies are already reaching
the limits of their space in their production
halls. It was also important for Krone to find
a space-saving CNC machine which had a
large working area despite small external
dimensions. The BC 100 offers precisely
that. Depending on the model, the moving
column machining centre has a maximum
The Krone engineering company mod-ernised its prefabrication section in 2011. Precision, productivity, plant availability and service were the determining factors in the decision in favour of vertical machining centres by HEDELIUS.
The Krone name has stood for high-quality,
powerful fodder harvesting technology for
more than 100 years. The green and yellow
agricultural machines are familiar up and
down the country. The prestigious company
with its headquarters in Spelle is among
the worlds leading manufacturers of disc
mowers, round balers and rotary rakes.
The two mower conditioners BiG M and
BiG X are also part of the range. Behind
the term BiG M is a high-capacity mower
conditioner which mows with a working
width of up to 13.20 m. The BiG X forage
harvester is presently the worlds most
powerful forage harvester.
Increased productivityThe Krone engineering company expanded
its production in the 2011 business year:

Great performance in the smallest spacetravel path of 2500 or 3500 mm on the X
axis which enables even long workpieces
up to 3500 mm or 2 x 1450 mm to be ma-
chined easily in pendulum operation.
Production manager Perk is very pleased
with the quality of the HEDELIUS machin-
ing centres. The machines meet our
high standards in the quality assurance
section. They work very precisely and cost-
efficiently.
Milling mechanic Armin Sobisch says, The RS 605 with zero-point
clamping system is ideal for small series.
The main spindle of the HEDELIUS RS 605 has an output of 165
Nm/18.5 KW and a maximum speed of 8000 rpm.

Established: 1839Company headquarters: HessdorfEmployees: 5,000 employees worldwide, in Schuler AG
The spindle runtime is criticalSchuler Automation GmbH & Co. KG offers its customers custom-designed transport and automation solutions for production. The main emphasis in the machining sec-tion is on the production of one-off parts and small series. In 2012 the traditional medium-sized company invested in a com-bined 3-axis and 5-axis machining centre Made in Germany to increase efficiency.
Schuler Automation GmbH &Co. KG de-
signs and makes state-of-the-art machines
and lines for customers from the automo-
tive industry, their suppliers and the electric
motor and household appliance industries
for both sheet metal applications and
also for automation and transport tasks in
production. The product range includes,
e.g. decoilers, roller straighteners, coil
washers, high-performance roll feeds as
well as automation equipment and process
engineering for solid forming.
In addition to its main customers in the
automotive industry, the medium-sized
company from Hessdorf also equips a
large number of sheet metal processing
companies with automation solutions. The
HEDELIUS RS 605, a vertical machin-
ing centre with a combined 3-axis and
5-axis working area has been used in the
mechanical machining of castings, steel or
aluminium since 2012.
Profitable series productionSchuler Automation in Hessdorf has a total
of 40,000 active production parts including
many custom-made devices, one-off parts
and small series. It is quite clear that we
focus on efficiency in the production of our
recurrent parts. We wanted to increase
the spindle runtimes and significantly de-
crease the setting up times for our small
series, is how production manager Bernd
Peters explains the decision to go for the
HEDELIUS RS 605. The great advantage
of the machine is that the operator can
set up in parallel to production time. The
working area can be divided within minutes
by using a divider plate - the fixed machine
table can be used on one side, the rotary/
tilt table for simultaneous machining on five
axes can be used on the other side.
Inclusive zero-point clamping systemThe HEDELIUS RS 605 moving column
machining centre was fitted with the
ZeroClamp zero-point clamping system at
the factory. This means that four Hoffman
Garant ZeroClamp clamping cylinders are
integrated in each of the fixed machine ta-
ble and in the rotary/tilt table unit. The tried
and tested clamping system considerably
reduces the amount of time required for
clamping and retooling of the machines
production becomes significantly more ef-
ficient, non-productive times are reduced.
Milling mechanic Armin Sobisch and NC
programmer Udo Schneider appreciate
the advantages of the system, Production
with the HEDELIUS RS 605 is a quantum
leap in terms of efficiency and precision for
Schuler automation. We can even produce
complex workpieces now with short setup
times in only one clamping, explains Sch-
neider.
It is possible to machine workpieces with
a diameter of up to 520 x 420 mm on the
rotary/tilt table of the RS 605. The fixed
machine table has a clamping area of 700
x 600 mm.
The RS 605 Skyloader has a pallet changer with 5 pallets for workpieces up
to 50 kg clamping weight. Thanks to the pallet setup station, milling mechanic
Sascha Strebel can prepare the pallets with just a few simple actions.

MBFZ toolcraft GmbHToll manufacturer for precision parts
Established: 1989Company headquarters: GeorgensgmndEmployees: 260
A workhorse for precision partsMBFZ toolcraft GmbH is a specialist for demanding mould construction and the production of precision parts and assem-blies. The company from the tranquil area of Georgensgmnd has been on track for growth for many years.
Within a very short time, the one-man
company established in 1989 has become
an internationally sought-after supplier
for a huge range of different industry sec-
tors. With more than 260 employees at
two sites, its own software house, the
mould construction section, and injection
moulding plant and a growing design and
development department, toolcraft now
supplies, among others, all three teams of
the DTM (German Touring Car Masters)
Audi, Mercedes and BMW as well as
famous Formula One teams. Components
by toolcraft are already installed in the new
Lamborghini and Porsche models.
Highest requirementstoolcraft has specialised in manufactur-
ing precision components of the highest
quality. The toll manufacturer works with
turning and milling machines, wire cutter
and vertical eroding machines and cutting-
edge laser technology. Managing director
Bernd Krebs explains why he invested in
the HEDELIUS RS 605 Skyloader, Apart
from anything else, we wanted a sturdy
machining centre for lightly manned 5-axis
operation that works reliably and precisely.
Krebs first had experience of the engineer-
ing company from Meppen in 2000. And he
was very pleased, The machining centres
by HEDELIUS are plug and play they are
available immediately and work reliably
from the start like a real workhorse.
Entry to automationtoolcraft is not only expanding its machin-
ing facilities and equipment with the RS
605 Skyloader. The company is also taking
its first step towards the automation of
series production. With 5 workpiece pallets
in the storage system, the machine opera-
tor of the RS 605 SL can bridge breaks or
whole shifts unmanned depending on the
runtime of the NC program. No wonder
then that milling mechanic Sascha Strebel
is impressed with the new machine, The
handling and programming are really super
easy and with the pallet changer I can
produce significantly greater quantities in
a shorter time. The storage system holds
a total of 5 pallets for workpieces up to 50
kg clamping weight. To make preparation of
the pallets as easy as possible for the user,
the rotatable pallet setup station which is
accessible via loading door on the side is
designed to be particularly ergonomic and
user-friendly.
Increased efficiencyFor the toolcraft company, unmanned
production with the HEDELIUS RS 605 SL
signifies a distinct increase in efficiency.
That makes the boss happy. Krebs says,
We produce at a very high technical level.
Nevertheless, we must not lose sight of
efficiency. Our customers expect us to be
able to produce high-quality components at
moderate cost. For this reason, the invest-
ment in the new moving column machining
centre is also an investment in the future of
his highly innovative company.

HWR Spanntechnik GmbHAutomation solutions and clamping technology
Established: 1989Company headquarters: OytenEmployees: 26
Lightly manned in three shiftsHWR Spanntechnik GmbH is a leading sup-plier of automation solutions and clamping technology in Germany. In 2011, managing director Volker Henke was looking for a re-liable CNC machining centre for three-shift operation to expand his production.
The history of HWR Spanntechnik GmbH
is a success story. It begins in 1989. From
a design engineering office which repeat-
edly made people sit up and take notice
with its innovative ideas, the company
developed into a trading and production
company working throughout Europe.
Today the specialists of HWR design and
produce clamping tools of all kinds for the
upgrading of turning and milling machines.
The products from Oyten in Lower Saxony
are sought-after all over Europe HWRs
customers are toll manufacturers, mainly
small to medium-sized companies. Since
2003, a close partnership has existed with
Lang Technik GmbH which resulted in the
time-tested inogrip clamping system. In
the meantime, HWR Spanntechnik GmbH
acts as the exclusive representative for
products by Lang in North Germany.
The automation systemAt the beginning of 2012, HWR commis-
sioned a new CNC machining centre the
HEDELIUS RS 605 Single. It has a high-
power main spindle with a 165 Nm driving
torque and also machines the tough steels of
HWR with a high chipping volume. To make
production particularly easy and efficient,
HWRs CNC machining centre was fitted
with a cutting edge automation system by
Lang. Loading the machine with workpieces
is now fully automated and unmanned. Pro-
duction manager Uwe Zitelmann reveals,
We usually produce series of 20 to 500
using the automated system. Above all he
stresses the increase in efficiency, As a re-
sult of automating the loading process, our
employees can now easily operate several
machines at the same time.
For maximum reliabilityThe new machine was intended for
three-shift operation from the outset.
Volker Henke, Managing Director of HWR,
explains the reason for his decision to
purchase from HEDELIUS, This is why we
looked for a manufacturer who was well
known for maximum reliability. The physi-
cal proximity to the engineering company
in Meppen also played a role. According
to Henke, Its a good feeling knowing that
the service technician doesnt first have
to travel 800 kilometres should there be a
problem. Production manager Zitelmann
is also very pleased with the handling and
reliability of the RS 605. The performance
of the HEDELIUS RS 605 is great and the
service is top-class. Right from the start,
we have had the feeling that we are being
well looked after, is how he sums it up.

GHD Georg Hartmann Maschinenbau GmbHPacking and cutting machines for the food industry
Established: 1969Company headquarters: DelbrckEmployees: 150
A solution for every requirementPackaging and cutting machines by GHD Hartmann are exported all over the world. The proportion of special solutions is on a constant upward curve. The CNC machin-ing centres which are used for machining must be equally versatile.
How does the bread get into the bag? You
can pursue this question during a visit to
GHD Georg Hartmann Maschinenbau
GmbH in Delbrck. The family-owned
company has been manufacturing packag-
ing machines and cutting machines for
the food industry since 1969. Now 150
employees work exclusively to order in
the design and production section of the
up-and-coming small-scale workshop
which covers an area of 7000 m.
GHD Hartmanns products are famous
worldwide for their quality: More than 4000
machines have been supplied to 50 coun-
tries to date.
Flexible and preciseThe vertical machining centres which are
used at GHD Hartmann differ mainly due to
the size of their travel paths and the number
of machining axes. The HEDELIUS BC 100
can machine workpieces up to 2500 x 1000
mm with ease. Accurate to a hundredth of
a millimetre, as machine operator Rainer
Hppmeier knows. Compared to the BC
100, the HEDELIUS C 60 is a small ma-
chining centre with gantry moving column
and three machining axes. It is perfectly
aimed at flexible one-off production or the
production of small series. The T 6 model,
also with large travel paths, has a swivel
spindle and can therefore machine the
workpieces from four sides.
Precise multi-sided machiningOnly recently, the Hartmann company
invested in a HEDELIUS RS 605. This
highly accurate machining centre from the
ROTASwing range has been designed specially for multi-sided machining on five
axes. HEDELIUS managing director Den-
nis Hempelmann explains, This design
is particularly sought-after wherever per-
formance, accuracy and universality are
required.
Digital drives on all axes, a direct path
measurement system and free roller guides
ensure maximum precision and a long
lifetime. Machine operator Sergej Tittel is
impressed by the RS 605, Workpieces
GHD GeorG Hartmann maschinenbau GmbH
can be machined very quickly and easily
due to the completely rotatable table. And
we can carry out a huge range of work with
a large tool magazine that has 56 spaces.
The apprentice-trained industrial mechanic
usually machines between 10 and 12 jobs
per day with the HEDELIUS RS 605. The
number of pieces ranges between 5 and 50.
Milling mechanic Johann Enns finds that the controller and
programming of the RS 80 are easy and accurate.
Multi-sided machining with maximum precision: Paul Hendrix KG machines
complex workpieces with the HEDELIUS RS 80 K Magnum here, for
example, a bronze aluminium casting for machine construction.

Just-in-time on five axesThe specialists at Paul Henrichs KG carry out just-in-time wage work. Precision is high on the list when machining high-qual-ity metal and lost-wax castings. For this reason, the company relies increasingly on five-sided machining using state-of-the-art
CNC machining centres
Paul Henrichs KG is a nationally and in-
ternationally sought-after service provider
and production specialist in metalworking.
The skilled workers of the medium-size tra-
ditional company machine all free-cutting
metals: aluminium, steel, lost-wax casting
but also high-strength materials like Inconel
or Hastelloy. Henrichs KGs customers in-
clude companies from the mechanical and
plant engineering, shipbuilding, automotive
and offshore industries.
Managing director Thomas Henrichs
recognised the advantages of five-sided
machining back in 2007. He expanded his
machining facilities and equipment by a
HEDELIUS RS 80 Magnum which is also
suitable for pendulum operation due to its
combination of three-axis and five-axis
working area. A further machining centre
by HEDELIUS the RS 505K was
commissioned in 2010. This model has a
high-performance spindle with maximum
speeds of up to 18,000 rpm.
With maximum precisionAs a flexible toll manufacturer, Paul
Henrichs KG completes a huge range of
different jobs. Managing director Henrichs
says, Usually we are talking about very
specific parts which are manufactured in
small series or as one-off parts. This work
can be carried out effortlessly with the
CNC machining centres by HEDELIUS.
Rainer Bozian, section manager of the mill-
ing shop, says, One major advantage of
multi-sided machining on five axes is that
the workpieces only have to be clamped
once. On one hand this saves a lot of time,
and on the other hand it also minimises
the risk of production-related inaccuracies.
Ultimately, its all about precision in the
hundredth of a millimetre range.
Practice oriented controllerMilling mechanic Johann Enns can sum up
the work with the HEDELIUS machining
centres in just a few words, Simply pro-
gram, clamp and youre ready to go. The
easy-to-operate controller with its system
interface by Heidenhain particularly im-
pressed him. Apart from a few exceptions,
Enns programs himself. Special calculation
software for setting up the machine per-
fectly is only required in the case of very
complex, multilayered procedures with ex-
tremely long runtimes some workpieces
are machined over a period of 20 hours.
The ROTASwing range is distinguished by a unique combination of a 3-axis and a 5-axis working area. Jaeckel machines complex
workpieces with a diameter of up to 1250 mm with the RS 125.

system, glass scales on the X, Y and Z axes
and high quality ball screw spindles are
responsible for this long-term accuracy.
The working areas of the BC 100 with
travel paths of 3500 mm (X axis), 1000
mm (Y axis) and 770 mm (Z axis) are large
enough to machine workpieces up to 3.5
m in length. Alternatively, the working area
may be divided in order to machine several
smaller components. This pendulum oper-
ation means that unproductive downtimes
can be reduced to a minimum.
Following the good experience with the BC
100, Jaeckel invested in an RS 125 at the end
of 2008. The RS 125 is an innovative CNC
machining centre for five-axis simultaneous
machining. This machine concept enables
complete machining of complex workpieces
with a diameter of up to 1250 mm in only one
clamping a real bonus in terms of precision
and machine running time.
A manufacturing accuracy of least 0.05 mm is standard for Jaeckel Modell- und Formenbau GmbH. This only functions reliably in the long-term with the right partners. One of these is the HEDELIUS engineering company from Meppen.
Jaeckel Modelle develops and builds
models and prototypes, special and series
tools, test equipment and special machines
with a workforce of approximately 50. The
majority of customers of this traditional
company from Lower Saxony come from
the automotive industry. The company also
does important innovative work in medical
and pharmaceutical technology, wind tur-
bine technology as well as aerospace and
space technology.
Maximum reliabilityThe BC 100 high-performance CNC ma-
chining centre has been running continu-
ously in Jaeckels production halls seven
days a week and in two shifts for seven
years. Jaeckels project manager Heiko
Hattendorf says confidently virtually trou-
ble-free. He is particularly taken with the
service provided by the engineering com-
pany from Meppen, Once when there was
a problem, it was just before the weekend,
HEDELIUS responded immediately and
sent a service engineer. He then ensured
that the machine could carry on working
unmanned throughout the weekend as
planned.
Long-term accuracyJaeckel purchased the first three-axis mov-
ing column machining centre by HEDELIUS
in 1994.
The BC 100 model had impressed the
engineers with its large working area and
tremendous accuracy. HEDELIUS manag-
ing director Dennis Hempelmann explains,
A perfectly coordinated drive and control
Leap in productivity due to precision
Retooling even on self-built jigs functions in a matter of
seconds with just a few simple actions.
The HEDELIUS machining centres from the ROTASwing range are used for machining complex turned and milled parts.
