Robert Egnatchik – ePortfolio Professional References Reflection Form
I am humbled to submit two letters of promise, which I received from Resident Director
Liz Humphries and Master of Education Candidate Katherine Murphy. Having developed a
relationship with Liz Humphries in my role as a graduate assistant and Katherine Murphy
through both our academic program and assistantships, I am greatly appreciative of their belief in
my promise as a higher education professional. Although these letters may meet the
competencies listed in a variety of program learning outcomes, I believe that these two accounts
best highlight my work in developing effective communication skills. Specifically, as mentioned
in Humphries’ letter, I believe I have demonstrated effective oral communication skills,
including listening to diverse perspectives and presenting ideas, in my active participation in
Residence Life staff meetings. As I have developed more self-efficacy as a staff member, I have
been able to find my voice and express opinions in a respectful manner. Over the past two years,
I believe that I have been able to find ways to both support peers within my assistantship, as well
as hold such peers accountable in the work they do as part of a team. Although this may be
difficult at times, my desire to facilitate such group dynamics has led to successful exchanges.
In addition to highlighting how others have seen growth in my communication skills, I
believe that the letters of promise note my competency in working collegially with diverse
constituents. In my Graduate Assistant role, I have had the privilege of working as a part of a
campus life team, which serves the unique needs of the students and staff at Loyola’s Water
Tower campus. I believe that my ability to effectively communicate has led to meaningful
collaboration between professionals on our campus, including my assistance in the delivery of
the first Graduate Compass orientation sessions. In this program delivery I was able to speak of
my own experiences as a member of the campus community while also providing incoming
graduate students with the resources that were available for their time at Loyola. In my role, it

has also been essential for me to advocate for those on my campus who have less voice, such as
our facilities teams. Overall, I believe that the submitted letters provide insight to my abilities to
effectively communicate and how I use such skills in a professional setting. Although I will
need to continue to develop such competencies, I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to
employ effective communication, and use these skills as a vehicle to strengthen my work as a
professional.
