Artist/Arts Group: Students of Republic Polytechnic Synopsis: What is your dream? Do you remember what you wished for when you

were a child?

Now, the same question is tossed back to the students at Republic

Polytechnic to interpret it all over again; what are their dreams and

aspirations? The exhibition would feature visual interpretations on canvases

of the students of their definitions of dreams and aspirations, and on a more

personal note, what are their inner hopes for the future.

restaged and produced by Republic Polytechnic, The Republic Cultural Centre (TRCC)

Makanplace a Singapore musical is our nation’s first original musical. The staging premiered at the Victoria Theatre in March 1988.

To quote Mister S. Dhanabalan, the then Minister for National Development, who attended the performance: “(The story’s) theme is simple and it carries an equally simple, but relevant message – that dreams can be realised if one continues to strive. It also captures the Singapore story – people from different races working together in harmony.”

The musical has since been restaged, developed for television, toured secondary schools as an assembly performance, published as a book and recently even made a trip to Jakarta for the celebration of Singapore Community Day. This version produced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Republic polytechnic, sees students, staff of Republic Polytechnic and the community come together to restage this Singapore classic, which reflects how relevant this musical is even to the generation today, 24 years after its original staging. We all continue to dream and together as a community we aim to achieve those dreams despite the many challenges life throws us.

You will be thrilled with a variety of magical acts ranging from big theatrical illusions, close-up performances, parlour magic, comedy magic, and many more that are seldom seen in Singapore.
