Reflections by the Lake Devotions for an Unordinary Time May 11, 2020 Sheltering Wings Susan Skinner During these uncertain times of "sheltering in," separated from family and friends, we are sometimes anxious and afraid. We miss our regular routines, feeling isolated and all alone, longing for "together times" again. Each day as I walk through the neighborhood, this quietness has given me a time of reflection that has caused me to be more aware than ever of God's grace all around me. Everything is in full bloom–the beautiful array of colorful flowers and plants, and the canopy of trees that covers me as I walk. The squirrels scatter across my path, but the BIRDS, the birds are my dearest company! Their cheerful chatter, as they go about their business, makes me smile. Not a worry in the world! It reminds me of the song that I remember from long ago: "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me." What comfort and peace! Someone recently gave me a beautiful piece of art and it hangs in my room by my bed. A row of colorful birds are perched on a line surrounded by these beautiful words: "He will cover you with his feathers and under His wings, you will find refuge." Psalm 91:4 As I go to bed each night, I am reminded: God is always near. We are not alone. Thanks be to God! Dear Lord, We are anxious and afraid. Help us to remember that You are our strength and refuge. Show us how to be faithful to others in our isolation so that we can share your love and grace. We pray for your sheltering "wings" as we proceed through these uncertain times. In His name we pray, Amen.

During these uncertain times of "sheltering in," separated from family and friends, we aresometimes anxious and afraid. We miss our regular routines, feeling isolated and all alone, longingfor "together times" again. Each day as I walk through the neighborhood, this quietness has givenme a time of reflection that has caused me to be more aware than ever of God's grace all around me. Everything is in full bloom–the beautiful array of colorful flowers and plants, and the canopy of treesthat covers me as I walk. The squirrels scatter across my path, but the BIRDS, the birds are mydearest company! Their cheerful chatter, as they go about their business, makes me smile. Not aworry in the world! It reminds me of the song that I remember from long ago: "His eye is on thesparrow, and I know he watches me." What comfort and peace!

Someone recently gave me a beautiful piece of art and it hangs in my room by my bed. Arow of colorful birds are perched on a line surrounded by these beautiful words:

"He will cover you with his feathers and under His wings, you will find refuge."Psalm 91:4

As I go to bed each night, I am reminded: God is always near. We are not alone. Thanks beto God!
