Off the Top of My Head… The Season of Lent soon comes to an end and Easter begins this week – not on Easter Sunday but on Holy Thurs-day night with the celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. The Sacred Easter Triduum, or the “three holy days of Easter,” are seen by the Church not as three feasts but as one feast lasting three days. This year, as mentioned in my column last week, we are in the difficult position of encouraging people to partici-pate in the Triduum and at the same time cautioning people that we must continue to practice social distancing. One partial solution is to invite all those who have been fully vaccinated to use a special section of pews in each parish. Because people who are vaccinated do not need to maintain social distancing from each other, we will use every pew instead of every other pew in that special section. This will open up other pews for people who are not yet vaccinated. I want to make three points about this plan: First, it is totally voluntary; nobody will be forced to sit in this section. Second, masks are still required of everyone at all Masses, including those who are fully vaccinated. Third, this plan only applies to the English-language Masses in our Pastorate. The reason for that third point is that fewer of our Hispanic parishioners have been vaccinated, mainly because they are a younger portion of the population. Beginning this Tuesday, March 31, those aged 16 and older will be eligi-ble to receive the COVID-19 vaccines, so I hope we will see a rise in the number of ALL of the members of our three parishes. (Speaking of which, look elsewhere in this bulletin with information on the vaccination clinic at St. Mary’s parish in Anderson this Tuesday, March 31.) Last year, we had no public Easter Triduum services because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. This year, our Triduum is significantly affected by the need for social distancing, because of that pandemic. Reflexión Del Padre Tom….

La Temporada de Cuaresma pronto llega a su fin y la Pascua comienza esta semana, no el Domingo de Pascua, sino el Jueves Santo por la noche con la celebración de la Misa de la ultima Cena del Señor. El Triduo pascual sagrado, o los "tres días santos de Pascua", son vistos por la Iglesia no como tres fiestas, sino como una fiesta que dura tres días.

Este año, como se mencionó en mi columna de la semana pasada, estamos en la difícil posición de alen-tar a la gente a participar del Triduo y al mismo tiempo advertir a la gente que debemos seguir practicando el distanciamiento social.

Una solución parcial es invitar a todos aquellos que han sido totalmente vacunados a utilizar una sección especial de las bancas en cada parroquia. Debido a que las personas que están vacunadas no necesitan mantener el distanciamiento social entre sí, usaremos cada banco en lugar de cualquier otro banco en esa sección especial. Esto abrirá otros bancos para las personas que aún no están vacunadas.

Quiero hacer tres puntos sobre este plan: En primer lugar, es totalmente voluntario; nadie se verá obliga-do a sentarse en esa sección. En segundo lugar, todavía se requieren máscaras para todos en todas las misas, incluyendo las perosnal que están totalmente vacunadas. En tercer lugar, este plan sólo se aplica a las misas en inglés en nuestro Pastorado.

La razón de ese tercer punto es que menos de nuestros feligreses hispanos han sido vacunados, princi-palmente porque son una porción más joven de la población. A partir de este martes 31 de marzo, los mayores de 16 años podrán recibir las vacunas COVID-19, por lo que espero que veamos un aumento en el número de miembros de nuestras tres parroquias.

El año pasado, no tuvimos servicios públicos de Pascua Triduo debido a la Pandemia Covid-19. Este año, nuestro Triduo se ve significativamente afectado por la necesidad de distanciamiento social, debido a la pandemia. Recemos para que el año que viene podamos celebrar el Triduo pascual 2022 en toda su plen-itud.
