For EU flagged vessels, only recycled R22 can be purchased until the final European phaseout date of December 31, 2014. All non EU flagged ships will be able to procure R22 in the EU provided the required license is obtained. In the USA the end of 2011 brought changes to the EPA restrictions that had been placed on the production of R22. This has led to a significant increase in the pricing of R22 in North America. Major producers of this product for the USA have brought about multiple pricing actions during 2012. The supply of R 22 is relatively stable elsewhere in the world. AMERFROST A404A: Due to its nonozone depleting nature R404A continues to be the refrigerant of choice for ship’s air conditioning and refrigeration needs. There are no restrictions on the supply of R404A in any geography. AMERFROST A407C: There are no restrictions on the supply of R407C in any geography.

AMERFROST   A-‐134a:   There   has   been   some   price   volatility   driven   by   occasional   supply   tightness   of  trichloroethylene,   a   key   component   of   R-‐134a.   This   has   led   to   some   counterfeit   product   showing   up   in   the  market.      Within   the   last   year   and   a   half,   the  marine   industry   has   been   negatively   impacted   by   incidents   and   fatalities  related   to   contaminated,   counterfeit   R-‐134a   found   in   a   number   of   container   refrigeration   systems.   Reliable  supply  of  R-‐134a  is  essential  for  the  shipping  industry  to  avoid  future  contamination.  The  safety  of  the  crew  and  the   vessel   should   always   be   the   primary   concern   of   any   company.   It   is   widely   agreed   that   refrigerant   gas  cylinders  must  only  be  purchased  from  reliable  suppliers,  cylinders  should  be  clearly  labeled,  and  records  should  be  kept  of  any  gas  used  to  provide  a  chain  of  custody.  Drew  Marine  can  provide  you  with  a  Refrigerant  Recovery  &  Chemical  Use  Journal  for  your  shipboard  reference.      For  further  information  please  contact  your  Drew  Marine  account  executive  for  details.
